10 minutes away on foot from the old city, you can get a room directly in front of the sea. The hotel was refurbished last year and it now offers elegant rooms with the latest commodities. A full breakfast is offered and although the employes speak little English, it is worth staying. It has a swimming pool and full spa equipment. In the summer when Dubrovnik is worst than New York traffic wise, the hotel offers all the tranquility you need. I was there in October when most tourists have gone back home, it is the best time to visit
Stayed here last week for seven nights what an amazing hotel couldn't fault anything the location is great just a short stroll into the old town . The room we had was lovely spacious and clean with great toiletries in the bathroom and the view of the sea and the old town from our room was awesome . We watched the most spectacular sunset each evening . Breakfast was good with a variety to suit everyone made my week as I had poached egg cook perfectly. The fine dining restaurant was exceptional so much so we dined there twice . All areas of the hotel were bright and airy and pleasant to relax in . All the staff we encountered front desk in the restaurant waiters and housekeeping were polite friendly and helpful and a sheer delight . Thankyou to all who made our first visit to beautiful Dubrovnik and pleasant and memorable stay . Hope to return next year .
The great thing about this hotel is the terrace and view to the old town. The recent renovation has lost the soul of this hotel, it had no warmth or ambiance. Service was OK and the rooms were fine although my shower screen leaked. Rooms without a view look onto the street and while there is a blind there is no option other than up where everyone outside can see you or down and the room is dark. A privacy blind would be perfect. The room was very hot and it took a long time to cool. I was really annoyed that hotel policy is not to provide irons to guests, it is the only hotel in the world I have stayed at with this silly policy. I assume they want guests to use the hotel iron service to add to their profits.
We've just returned from an amazing visit to Dubrovnik. We stayed at the excelsior hotel which was absolutely awesome. The hotel upgraded us free of charge due to my husbands 50th birthday. The staff were so welcoming and friendly - he also had a cake in the room which the hotel had arranged for him. The breakfast was superb, lots of choice and lovely and fresh. The spa facilities were so relaxing, clean and beautiful - we could have stayed in there all day. The pool etc is right next to the sea so you can pop in and out and lounge both inside and out at your leisure. The sunset was amazing - we lounged in the spa whilst watching the sun go down. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the old town of Dubrovnik which is brilliant for walking in. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hotel was wonderful. A stunning place to stay, we would certainly recommend the hotel - can't wait to visit again - hopefully soon.
What a lovely hotel! Room overlooked the sea and Dubrovnik. Spotlessly clean. Wonderful breakfast room overlooking sea and plenty of variety. Felt really looked after and spoilt and would definitely recommend to anyone!
Amazing hotel, can't wait to go back, attention to detail impeccable, fabulous staff, great facilities, spa, pool, saunas, steam room and beauty treatments, lovely terrace with sun loungers and steps down into the Sea, great views from room across to the island of Lokrum where "Games of Thrones" was filmed. Just beware beauty treatments prices are quoted in Euros not Croatian Kuna, quite expensive. Although therapists and treatments were wonderful. Room was beautiful, with mini bar and l'occitane toiletries.a selection of treats left in room everyday, miniature cakes, confectionary, dried fruits and nuts, complimentary water. They even arranged a birthday cake to be in the room on our arrival. Breakfast was amazing, an absolute feast, including champagne! Every morning! A big thank you to all of the wonderful staff who made our stay so memorable and a shout out to Marina, the lovely therapist. Hope to see you next time we visit. Rebecca.
We stayed in the new part of the hotel with a balcony, which although small, was adequate for sitting and reading with a fantastic view of the Old Town. The walk to the Old Town is only ten minutes, which is extremely beneficial for eating at night. The room was bright and airy and well equipped and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The buffet breakfast was brilliant - and we're not fans of this in general - but the variety of food on offer was exceptional, including real honeycomb. We really enjoyed the piano bar, which while almost deserted, offered an very relaxing experience and drinks before retiring. The pianists were excellent. The sun-bathing/swimming patio was also well recommended. Would definitely go again.
We had a week at the Hotel Excelsior during the last week in September 2017.The hotel is located on the opposite shore to the Dubrovnik Old Town Harbour and castle walls. The view is absolutely fantastic. The hotel is very modern, clean and all the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel is built on the side of a steep cliff so the reception area is on the 4th floor. The main bar and lounge are a floor below. This area is tastefully furnished and includes an outside seating area with 180 degree views across the bay. The fine dining restuarant is also located here. The main breakfast buffet style restuarant is located on the next floor below. There is outside seating available with the same wonderful views. The breakfast menu is fantastic (all you could expect) so i won't go into too much detail, although I will say that everything tasted very fresh. The hotel also caters for gluten free meals. Below this floor is the well equipped gym area and indoor pool including two jacuzzis. The hydro is also located here with dedicated staff. My wife enjoyed her 90 minute massage very much indeed.. From here you can walk out to the beach area. Well its not a beach as there is no sand, but a very long concrete platform. This we found as an excellent option as the water lapped against the platform wall and the change in the tide was very noticeable. There were stainless steel ladders to allow you to enter and exit the sea. I preferred diving off the edge to avoid having to accustomise to the water temperature. Again the view from here was awesome and at this time of year the sun rises on the left of the hotel and sets on the right of the hotel straight over the Old Town. Very impressive indeed. There are very comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas. Beach towels are provided. There is a beach bar and restuarant here also. In fact the beach restuarant is available for evening dining which is fantastic as you can hear and smell the sea as you dine. There is an excellent menu choice and top range of wine (mainly Croatian and Slovenian). Having never tasted these wines we were very impressed indeed. I need to mention that while lying on the sun loungers the whole bay was a hive of activity with loads of boats ferrying people about on guided tours, jet skis, banana rides, parasailing etc. You certainly had a lot of entertainment.. There were a few fish in the sea within the area marked by bouys which was the official swimming area. The weather was perfect (average 25 degrees) The water was 23 degrees and crystal clear.. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Dubrovnik. The main highlights are: very modern, cleanliness, excellent cuisine, stunning views, great amenities, friendly helpful staff, close to Old Town, right on the sea. quality of service, great weather. We would definitely stay there again.
The check in process was very efficient and we were shown to our room fairly quickly. The room was nice and had a partial sea view but lovely view of Dubrovnik. We thought we were getting a full sea view room but it was our travel agent that misled us, not the hotels fault, we were in 331. The Hotel tried to help by offering the room next door but it wasn’t worth moving as the view was more or less the same. The issue was we were side on to the Hotel, so you look at the balconies of the rooms adjacent and overlooked. Breakfast was lovely, there is a good choice and I particularly liked the egg white omelette with truffles and Brie cheese, which is on he order menu and you can have a glass of fizz. The local honey is wonderful too and still on the comb on a rack and the fresh fruits. The location of the hotel could not be better, it is a very short walk into Dubrovnik. We stayed for 10 nights and hired a car for 4 days. The hotel valet parks your car for no fee which is excellent as parking is very limited. The staff were all very friendly. The sunbathing area is beautiful but we only managed to sunbathe one day, due to being busy and the weather. The sea was very rough some days, so they could not lay out the sunbeds. There is a lovely indoor pool if you need to swim. We would recommend the hotel as it is in an excellent location and the staff were wonderful. They even gave us a late check out on the last day until 5pm, which is amazing. We travel a lot and late check outs are very rare. We drove to Montenegro, which I would recommend. Fairly easy going through the border and we also went to Bosnia and drove to Mostar, which is quite a long drive but worth it. Cavtat is a lovely little place and easy to get to by boat from the harbour. Only problem was when we went the boat was cancelled coming back due to bad weather, so we had to get the bus, but it was easy. It was pouring down, so make sure you have an umbrella, if you go in September, we got caught out a few times and when it rains it pours. Dubrovnik is much more expensive than other parts of Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia, but it is a lovely place. If you explore all the different levels, there is so much to see. We dined every night in the city and found lots of lovely restaurants. We would recommend the hotel for its location, food and staff.
Staying in Dubrovnik at the Excelsior is a dream come true! This historic hotel has been redone and modernized to the highest standards! The staff is efficient and reflect the professionalism at every level. We did not give the hotel five stars because our room was a bit of a dungeon without a sea view and they crammed us and our adult daughter into it, even though we had paid for an extra person. The views from the lobby, deck and breakfast room all overlook the Adriatic and the old city walls. Dining outside for breakfast is truly lovely with the spectacular view. Breakfast is an elegant buffet of healthy, delicious selections of eggs, smoked fish, breads, cereals, pastries, dried fruits and nuts, fresh fruits, yogurts, smoothies, and anything else you could possibly imagine. Tea and coffees are served by waiters at the tables. Our room was the low point of our stay, but it was very clean and the bathroom had fragrant lavender amenities but no shower door! We would recommend adding shower doors to the bathrooms so the poor maids don't have to mop up water constantly! Down at the sea, there is a terrific large, indoor heated pool with spectacular views and fresh ocean breezes. Outside on the sea deck, the staff sets up super comfy chairs and umbrellas with towels. The views of the old city walls are amazing! There is an enormous roped off swimming area with ladder access into the warm and calm Adriatic. Relaxing on the sea deck and enjoying the waters of the sparkling clean sea is an experience we will never forget. The hotel is conveniently located about a ten minute scenic walk to the old city of Dubrovnik and all the restaurants. There is a fantastic lounge to have an Aperol Spritzer or any other drink and watch the sunset over the walls of the old city. Such loveliness is rare anywhere, but when you are enjoying it with your family, it is truly memorable. Don't miss the cable car ride up the mountain which leaves from above the old city. The views are amazing and it leads to an old Napoleonic fort which now houses a wonderful museum. How could anyone shell this old UNESCO site in Dubrovnik and damage the old Hotel Excelsior? You may just have to take the trip to find out!
