We had heard and read about John Burton Race taking over the kitchen in the hotel so were extremely interested to find out just how good it was. Simply outstanding was the result. James the matre'd was superb and clearly knew what and how the food was cooked. and his enthusiasm was a joy to share. There were 4 of us on our table all having different starters, main courses and desserts. The food was brilliantly presented, was delicious in every way and unusually for this standard of food and cooking made us replete in every way. This restaurant , the cooking , the service and food are really top notch and if JBR does not get a Michelin star I will be very disappointed.

Great hotel, excellent staff and service. Superior family Room was lovely. Very comfortable and great size. Room service was amazing. Breakfast was amazing and lots of choices and variety for all. From buffet to cooked to order. Nice indoor and outdoor pool. Close to seafront. Would stay again and recommend.

I've stayed here twice now and will be returning. Due to travel i arrive at night and am greeted by Graham the night porter. He has been very attentive and nothings too much bother. John Burton-Race food is to "die for "...its amazing and well worth the visit. Rooms clean and comfortable with all you need including beverage tray hairdryer toiletries and white fluffy towels. Asked for a ground floor room due to inability to climb stairs and this request was accommodated without hesitation. I will certainly be returning for all business trips. Great team of staff so please pass this on.

Stayed here for 2 nights the hotel is very clean and bedroom 116 was very clean and had a good tray of products on it biscuits water different types of beverages but then on second night alarm went off about 3 o'clock in morning obviously went looking for night porter there was 2 on duty and they looked very surprised and looked like they were up to no good mentioned it in morning and they just replied yes we believed it did with no explanation? Went to use the indoor pool Because it was raining out side but they were cleaning it could of done that before it opened but the biggest bug bearer we payed for parking which was behind the hotel through a dark path with no lighting on it but as I say the parking at the front of hotel and nearest to hotel were for staff parking and manager and chef funny we pay there wages ? Breakfast was ok with a good choice but you might have to be a dog lover because there walking around hotel with no lead what so ever so eating breakfast and your fighting for your sausage.

Room 107 was dated. 1of 2 drawers for clothes wouldn't open. Gap in bottom of wardrobe where it didn't fit together. Scratched and chipped bath. Filthy window sills. Bed sloped so if you lay near the edge you would roll off the side. Breakfast was bland, especially the sausages. Hash browns were rock hard. Poached eggs were freezing cold. Fire alarm went off at 2.45am for a few minutes. No one gave any instructions or assistance. When it stopped we all went back to bed. Next day, no apologies or explanations offered. Had a look in 1 of the refurbished rooms and looked very nice. Breakfast staff and reception staff were lovely. Not worth the money to stay here. Would advise you to stay elsewhere.

Looks lime they are refurbishing the hotel. If you are dtayibg in a room that is very dated & not up to scratch. I don't believe that you should have to pay top dollar. Photos of the bathroom attached you decide.

The hotel food was very limited if you are all included but the female manager in restaurant andraya she made our first 2 nights enjoyable and fantastic and helped us with adapting our meals and was very welcoming and helped up with the Spanish and Portuguese bar men to settle my bill in restaurant to clear it each night .the male manager never bothered with us and then we had stress on last night settling the bill instead of going on the room bill when you check out. There was no air con in bedroom so was very hot .and at least we enjoyed some of the meals and nice lounge. 3 night stay and the ironing board they let you use was cheap it fell down with iron after 8mins . The waiters are very friendly and nice service

Definitely Michelin star quality. The first time ever that my wife was presented with a separate menu for her onion family allergy - thank you. The food was cooked and presented to perfection. A very good choice on a la carte menu - excellent pastry chef too

Sunday lunch, limited menu choice from the al la carte menu I think. Great food, good service, although somewhat slow and nice atmosphere. I think that it would be a good plan to phone first and find out what is on the menu before you book. Not a standard Sunday Roast. Small food, big plate.

Came away with a few mates and chose this hotel after seeing the TV series, expecting it to be a bit cheesy but was amazed at how much its changed! I was talking to the barman who said they were continuing renovations and improving the hotel. Staff were friendly, bar was late, rooms were spot on and the location is about a 15-20 minute walk into the centre of Torquay. Breakfast in the morning was buffet style, and very tasty! There was a range of fried and continental items. Looking at making this a yearly trip and will stay here again!
