had a few small problems with our room but they where quickly sorted by the friendly staff Breakfast was very good, but thought the prices of the food in the conservatory which a bit on the high side, We had four good days at this hotel, handy location as we have family in Wicklow town.
This hotel may be good for big wedding parties and the like (it has won all the awards), but for a business traveler without a car, it is not the most attractive location: in the woods, in the middle of nowhere, no pubs or streets to stroll in the evening after a busy day; all you can do is to have a beer or whisky in the atrium where big chairs and a nice fire place give you the feeling of being a character in an Agatha Christie novel. The staff at reception is friendly, a sign claims that about 20 different languages (including Latvian and various slavic idioms) are spoken at the hotel! However, the place looks a bit old (carpets are worn at places, furniture in the room also, paneling in the lift needs refurbishing... ) And the food in the conservatory? No thanks; the beer is fine, but "cuisine" this is not! Very limited choice, cooked and presented without the least refinement; a "glenview burger" at 20£ totally dry, unappetizing to look at, tasteless. At least the "chips" are in "French fries" style (i.e. not too thick and not too greasy). I had no chance to try the fancy restaurant. One good point for the rooms: lots of lights to allow you to work or read; wifi also worked well.
We stayed over the Christmas holidays for the view. It's a bit of a walk to Sugar Loaf so we drove over. The outdoor hot tub wasn't heating up which was really disappointing after dping our walk. There is large indoor pool and exercise room. The spa was also a disappointment - it's a room off the main corridor in the hotel. We had a double room which was very comfortable with a deep tub in the bathroom. The food from room service was delicious. There is a nice seating area in a garden directly outside the hotel and a lovely view from the area where buffet breakfast is served - a great selection there so worth a visit for that alone. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Lots of families and OAPs during our stay. Free parking available on site.
Nice hotel. Bright and airy if not a little dated. Food excellent in the conservatory. Personally I would like the veg cooked for 30secs more and the salmon 30secs less but not a big problem. Compliments to the chief as all was very tasty and well presented.
Myself and my wife travelled down from Derry for the weekend. From reading the views online here we had mixed emotions about what our experience would be like. Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is average sized and is buzzing with atmosphere. We first went to the bar for a drink while waiting for our room to be ready for us. We got chatting to a girl in the bar called vicky who deserves a special mention for being so lovely and taking time to talk to us and tell us where we should visit. Our room was on the second floor and it was a standard room which we expected for the price we paid. The breakfast was beautiful with so many options. On the Saturday night there was entertainment in the bar, the bar men were lovely and made great cocktails, nothing was too much to ask. Location is brilliant about ten minutes to powerscourt. A thank you to all the lovely restaurant staff too. The spa facilities are lovely and the gym has plenty of equipment. Definitely will be back and cannot wait to book again.
Stayed here for 1 night. Booked an Executive room with a beautiful view of Glen of the Downs. Room was very clean, well decorated and really comfortable. Complimentary mineral water, tea coffee, Nespresso machine in the room. Really good shower pressure. Bar is comfortable but can be a bit noisy if busy. Dined in the Woodlands restaurant. Excellent meal. Presentation and quality all 5 star. Great service. Wine served at perfect temperature ... red and white. Staff friendly, polite and helpful (in the bar just a little less so .. but it was busy). Only bum note was breakfast. It was not bad but for a four star hotel it fell short of that standard for me. Overall, really enjoyed my stay. Would come back and would recommend to family and friends for a relaxing weekend break.
restaurant: much ado about nothing! Expensive and food not worth it. staff very busy felt like we were in the way to be honest! We were on a business lunch and went into the library as the main buffet restaurant was full . A young woman with a ponytail literally slammed our lunch on the table as if (you are ruining my day) - the food overpriced and one thing we noticed is the absolute lack of english speaking staff! I had to stay overnight and never again! The kitchen staff are all from different countries (this is not anything racist) and dont seem to know what each other are saying - the hotel sells itself as a HOMELY AND FRIENDLY staff well the ones we saw were tired, overworked and underpaid. I spoke to one young man and he was leaving due to the way HR dealt with issues or actually did not deal with the staff concerns. We were told how many had started jobs only to leave within days ..... not a family staff hotel more like stack them high and sell em cheap! Felt sorry for the staff to be honest! will not be going there again Location: great location but rooms not 4 star we got one near a burner or over kitchen .... noisy and not happy. complained but not going back Breakfast: great! Overall: staff do not seem happy a young girl brought us tea and scones in the small library room and threw it at us - Type: mainly a wedding hotel - the rest of the guests can WAIT!!! Management: too many nationalities some with no english Spa - great Never going back!
Stayed one night very disappointed room had a strong smell of paint bed very uncomfortable and bathroom door wouldn't close. Breakfast we ordered Poached eggs and waited more than 25 minutes to receive effectively boiled eggs that were cold. Would be difficult to return or recommend....
Held a business meeting Sunday Morning in Glenview Hotel. The Malton lounge is beautiful and very comfortable to hold a meeting. Wi fi is excellent and the staff were very attentive. Teas and coffees are nicely served with luxury biscuits. Ciara was excellent as a hostess and very friendly. We enjoyed our experience. Free car parking available on site. Highly recommended we will use this hotel again.
We checked in to the hotel late after a flight, the restaurant had just been closed but the staff very kindly offered to make us sandwiches which was great! After this we went to our room, which was absolutely freezing. Called to reception and they brought us a heater to the room while the radiator warmed up. However we realised the tv & sockets weren't working either. We were very tired after travelling all day & it was 23.15 when the problems were fixed and we could finally relax. The manager was very helpful and apologetic and explained that the previous guest had left the hairdryer on but that he would pass the information to the manager on duty the next day. We would usually not complain but in this situation it was a disappointing 12 hour stay for the price & while checking out and paying it was not recognised.
