I stayed in a balcony room, which was surprisingly spacious and had a lovely balcony overlooking the beach. The room was well equipped as was the enormous bathroom with separate bath and shower. Really good value for money . Overall the room was clean to a good standard. Some of the paintwork was a bit grubby and there were some marks on the carpet that could do with some attention. However, I am quite a fussy individual and there was nothing that concerned me unduly . A really comfortable room and well worth paying the extra for the views. The service was excellent. All the staff, without exception were lovely and accommodating. The food was good. I had lovely mackerel, which for my personal taste, was somewhat overpowered by the vast amount of horseradish potato salad that accompanied it. However, the roast chicken salad with mandarin, watercress and cashew, was just wonderful. As was the warm chocolate brownie. Limited selection of lager on tap but again, this is all down to personal taste. Having not found a lager that I really liked, I tried the draft cider, which was clean, crisp and refreshing. Definitely my beverage of choice in the future! Once again, restaurant service was excellent. So, in summary, nothing really to fault. Lovely hotel, plenty to see in Deal itself and unlimited choice if you prefer to venture further afield. Thanks to all the lovely staff at The Royal for making my stay so enjoyable.
We had lunch here, it was our wedding anniversary. We were made so welcome, seated at a table. The service was impeccable, Vivian looked after us, she was very pleasant and seemed very happy in her job. When our food arrived it looked lovely, we started to eat and it tasted better than it looked. A great experience, thank you Vivian, you really make a day come alive with your smile..
Booked this hotel as my husband was on a course near by. We phoned the hotel to advise we where going to be late as the motorways where closed. Eventually got to the hotel at 9pm. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, they kept the kitchen open for us. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Room was lovely and very big with a good sea views from the side. Breakfast very nice and lots of choice.
A great location and well run hotel. We stayed for a friends wedding and were pleased to have booked the best hotel in the area..A word of warning,if you smoke in your room, you will set off the fire alarm and wake everyone up at 4.00am.I would point out it was not us.
wasn't impressed with the vegetarian breakfast especially for the price . The scrambled eggs didn't taste real and the beans were served in a tiny pot (come on it's not the 1970's ! ) Toast came out first so was cold by the time we got our breakfasts - terrible coffee for the price you are better off in Wetherspoons .
Have stayed here many times. On this occasion, we returned with our lovely little dog, Dolly. We were not disappointed, the room was as lovely as always, the breakfast faultless. Even Dolly was given egg on toast before we checked out :-) we will always return here when we visit Deal, without question.
Husband and brother had Fish and Chips, both said how fresh the fish tasted and Brother was very pleased with the chips which were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. I had Chicken salad with mandarins, rocket and nuts, delicious and very refreshing on a hot day. Husband enjoyed an Eton Mess and I had a delicious Chocolate Brownie. Very good value for money and the staff were cheerful, friendly and efficient.
Visited today with the intention of a coffee while sitting in the sun on the sea front. Sadly although not many people were there at the time the waitress found it more important to chat to them rather than take our order. Decided to leave and visit an alternative venue. Didn’t even acknowledge us on the way out. Sad as previous visits have been pretty good.
I check Trip Advisor regularly before I make a booking so that I have an informed choice. It always occurred to me that there were not that many reviews for The Royal Hotel and I think I know why: probably because it is so good, people are keeping it a secret and not posting. My husband and I just spent a week here staying in one of the feature rooms on the front with a balcony/terrace facing the sea. Lovely large room. Excellent walk-in shower with no step. Good breakfasts and very good meals served al fresco or in the restaurant, all under the excellent supervision of the wonderful Mr. Alexander Dunne (the manager) and his fantastic team. The staff here were so kind and attentive: nothing was too much trouble. Given the weather we had, it truly was a week of serendipity and great happiness. It is well worth paying the extra for the feature room because of the glorious view and in our case, it just happened to be Carnival week so we had the best view of the fireworks. Deal is a happy town, untouched by time. The locals take the time to stop and talk. You can feel the wonderful community spirit in the air. So refreshing. I thoroughly recommend this hotel and apologise to all those who were keeping it a secret! Needless to say, we are going back.
You really couldn't get nearer to the beach. Our 'Wellington' beach front room with large balcony (and outside heater) was exquisite, beautifully decorated, with an unsurpassable view and the wow factor. This would be an ideal room for a very special night. Can't say I was too taken with a bath in the room but it is the modern way and some customers would love it - there is a separate shower room. You hear the sound of the waves against the pebbles on the beach which is lovely. The balcony/veranda is a beautiful spot for a morning coffee watching the sunrise or glass of wine in the evening - reception even offered to serve us breakfast on the balcony. Directly below the room is outdoor seating for the restaurant/bar so you do hear voices. It did not bother us but could be a problem for some. Dining areas are numerous depending on your preference. The menu was fine, unpretentious and good value. Breakfast could be enjoyed al fresco which was lovely. The welcome from the front desk was really nice and informative. Pay parking is adjacent to the hotel and costs about £6.50 for 24 hours. We would not hesitate to come back to this hotel, the location certainly takes some beating. Another excellent Shepherd Neame Brewery hotel.
