Nice location. Everything pretty clean. But what a weird layout fo a hotel. Room wasn't ready when we came to check in, so I asked seemingly nice lady in reception to hold us a room with a view as we had come all the way from California to visit Darwin. Came back five hours later, given key, and shown to......a lightless, soulless cheaply furnished bunker on the fifth floor with a small TV sized slit in one side with a view directly in to.....a steell wall. Kind of crazy. Have called down to reception a few times but they don't seem to have any rooms that don't look onto steel walls. Who designs these kind of hotels?
We have just returned to Perth after a week in Darwin. Our first visit to Darwin. We stayed at the Rydges Darwin Central (6th floor) and could not fault the hotel. GREAT location, STAFF were good. Reception staff and restaurant staff were efficient and very helpful. We enjoyed the wide choice of food for breakfast. The cleaning staff were also very efficient. Rooms cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. The hotel is in a good location, we walked to a lot of the tourist attractions. Buses a short walk away. Lots of different cafes, bars and restaurants handy. There is a laundry in the hotel for guests to use for a low cost (washing machines and dryers)
Easy check in, great service and clean rooms. Can walk to most places in the cbd. Car parking 19.90 a night but a safer place for a hire car. Quiet room, but no foxtel. Brilliant onsite restaurant and other places near by. Rooms are very big, plenty of space, showers not overly hot though
We have just had a five night stay here and very happy with the hotel and the staff. The reception staff helped in every way they could. The housekeeping staff also did a great job servicing our room when requested. We had a couple of small issues but I am not going to have a whinge for the sake of it which so many people do as the positives out weigh the negatives. The hotel is very centrally located. The rooms are not modern but you are not paying ridiculous prices either. The curtains make the room very dark which is great for a sleep in and you hear no outside noise, we were on the top floor (7th).
The hotel is centrally located just at one end of Smith Street Mall. The staff members were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and basic amenities were provided. The only gripe I have is the lighting in the rooms and common areas. These were all fluorescent or compact fluorescent globes (CFL). This included bedside reading lamps. This made the room depressing and uninviting. Given the small square window, proper lighting would have made a huge difference. I suggest fitting the rooms with LED lighting.
Rooms were ok, although air conditioning was too cold and could not be made warmer. Even with the air conditioner off had to use the blankets on the bed.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very convenient location in the city centre. Breakfast was good
The second lift was not working for 3 days which meant sometimes you had to wait 10 mins for lift. Tried to charge me for a dinner that I never had. You DID charge for a phone call made from my room 12 hrs before I entered the room. So wish I double checked the bill but I had an Uber waiting. So sick of Rydges charging me for things I didn’t use. Robbers.
Have nothing negative to say about this hotel. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful from the manager down . Reception, dining staff, girls who make up the rooms everyone I can think of. The only problem we had was going out at night to dine, vagrants are rife at night and spoil the city. However Rydges have fixed that problem too. You can now dine in on the 1st floor.with delicious food by Damian and amazing cocktails by Leandro, ( Try his own cocktail Hunter on Darwin). Congratulations to you all. There is a breakfast buffet suitable for children. Dining room not a buffet but if anything like my grandsons plenty that would please the kids. Having dined out a lot in Darwin and not opposed to paying high prices if deserved, we thought most places were over priced for the quality of the food. The food in this case was good and not overpriced at all.
Rydges was the perfect overnight stop in the city and the end of a campervan adventure. It’s clean, spacious and centrally located in the CBD. Staff were friendly but not intrusive. There was a bit of noise with people leaving in the early morning but generally it was peaceful and calm.
It’s difficult to rate the Rydges Darwin anymore than average, one lift not working so time waiting was annoying. Room was tired and in need of a refresh. Staff were nice, although they did struggle to assist in some occasions.
