Novotel Darwin Airport4.0 out of 5.0

It is hard to rate this hotel as the rooms in the normal Airport Hotel and in the Novotel are perfectly fine, however you need to know this hotel has a separate section in which the rooms are called 'Territory Rooms'. Under no circumstances should anyone stay in these rooms. It is a FIFO camp, the rooms are miniscule and you will be surrounded by mainly men in high viz which is only a problem because the walls are paper thin. This hotel has shamelessly invested in tack-on cheap dormitories to capitalise on a transient worker market which has brought down the overall amenity of the Airport Hotel. The Novotel is connected to the Airport Resort. If you book in to the Novotel, insist that your room is in the Novotel. Be warned, the same nasty experience is possible at most self-contained units in multi-story blocks across Darwin. If the room seems cheap expect to be in a FIFO dorm. The developers of Darwin have a lot to answer for as the newer accommodation is shamelessly cheap and nasty to make a quick buck from volume worker accommodation. In Darwin, just pay the extra or stay in AirBnB if you want to enjoy the Top End.
Was put up for one night with my tour group after flight canceled. Rooms were allocated as guests lined up at reception. Sure enough some couples were given rooms with one queen bed and one single bed and some sharing singles were given rooms with one queen bed. When I went back to reception and had the gall to ask for a two bed room for my mother and myself I was given a whole lot of attitude and a begrudging room reassignment. One simple question to all guests would have solved this problem, "do you need separate beds or is a queen bed ok?" Novotel management, please instruct front line staff accordingly and perhaps give Danielle some more customer service training. 15 minutes later in our new room, the door opened and standing there was another member of our tour group with all her luggage who had been issued a key card for our room! That's when Novotel and Accor lost me. (Staff at the hotel restaurant were excellent. Thank you for saving an otherwise difficult evening.)
Accommodation clean, spacious and modern. Staff friendly and efficient check in and out. Breakfast selection very good. Beds comfortable. Would highly recommend as much cheaper than staying in Darwin. Taxi into town approx $30 - which you would have to pay anyway if you stayed in town.
6 planes, 9 tarmacs in 3 days. This hotel was in the middle of my journey and vital to my rest. They really looked after me, including the restaurant. The food was great and the wait staff were very friendly and helpful (especially the Filipino staff). The room was very comfortable and my floor was very peaceful. The hotel is only a short walk from the airport which was very ideal. Great stay. I will be back.
I use this hotel as it is only short walking distance to the Darwin International Airport. On arrival I had mistakenly booked a room on the wrong day. Reception staff were excellent changing my booking without any charges. This occurred at the start of my holiday and setting a positive tone to the rest of my holiday. The room and bathroom large and clean. The bed suited my requirements, mainly being large and comfortable. I decided to stay in my room for dinner and ordered Chinese takeaway from the restaurant within. I must say that the laksa I ordered was the worst I've tasted, basically just chilli water and chicken. It maybe better to dine in but very poor quality food The hotel also has a well equipped gym The reason I picked this hotel is it's close proximate to the airport and because of the friendly staff I will be staying there again
I chose this hotel because the room rate included breakfast and the price was decent check in checkout was a easy process staff were great and friendly the atmosphere was laid back which I like, I found the inside of the hotel a real let down as soon as I walked through the corridor I could smell a damp smell opened our room door and was disappointed and wanted to walk back out and stay else where but due to no refunds I had no choice to stay the room in fact majority of the hotel needs a overhaul the decor is out dated carpet ripped I think the cleaners lack attention to detail the shower was a eyesore needed a really good scrub see photos attached just dirty mildew yuk! I opened the cupboard to gain entry to the fridge the handle came right off in my hand the list goes on and on we ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant was your usual bacon eggs cereal ect was nice and filling we used the pool was lovely clean area the pool bar was great prices are your norm hotel prices for alcohol but again tiles have come off the pool steps and sides and floor bit run down this is a Novotel hotel you expect better than this so to sum it up .... Great staff great atmosphere great location great restaurant, pool and pool bar just the hotel needs a reno asap!!
I have stayed at this hotel many times before and chose to stay here when recently holidaying in Darwin with family. They have always looked after me and valued my loyalty and make you feel at home. We stayed in the 2 br executive suite which is perfect for families with ample room to really relax and unwind. There is also nothing better than sitting poolside with a cold beer at the adjoining Mercure hotel. My family and I will most certainly return to this hotel as it's a great spot with little noise from the airport and only 10 minutes from the city.
Stayed 2 nights for work. 6th floor (627) on airport side was quiet. Complimentary water and a little sweet treat as part of Accor Plus membership. Wifi free as part of Accor membership. Bed comfy. Large rack to put luggage on.Pillows either very thick or very thin. No mini bar. Drinks can apparently be ordered but have to be collected across the road at the Mercure. Booked via an online site with a special so included buffet breakfast for one of the nights. Split system aircon slow to cool the room and certainly could not get the room to the 19 deg it was set on, but once cool the room as ok as long as aircon was on. TV remote needed new batteries (easily fixed) and desk lamp did not work even though it had been tested and tagged just a few weeks before.. Room is very dark even with all lights on. Servicing of room was fine. Buffet breakfast in the Chinese restaurant had good range of food and I liked the crusty loaf of sour dough instead of normal packaged bread. Hot food was in small quantities but replenished frequently while I was there. The fridge holding the yogurt, milk and fruits etc was very noisy. Had dinner at the Chinese restaurant which was fine. Chinese restaurant does not give the usual Accor discount. Apparently they give 10% off but forgot in my case even though i showed my card so maybe better to specifically ask. Went across the road to the Mercure another night for dinner there as meals there can be charged back to Novotel Room. Similarly if you feel you want to sit somewhere apart from your room or the Chinese restaurant it is easy to go across to the Mercure! Since it is near the airport taxis turn up within minutes. The hotel is supposedly 4 star but I think more like 3.5 star. Yes would stay again.
Hotel was a good size for a family, 2 seperate bedrooms and a small kitchenette in and living area. Price was reasonable and no noise from airport. FIrst night we were placed in a room that had a terrible overpowering odour, however when we raised this the next morning they moved us to an alternative room immediately. Breakdfast was included but this was not great, I would recommend you find alternative options for breakfast. Limited choice and barely palatable. Overall though I would recommend as a good base for a family looking for reasonable cost accomodation.
This is a great place to stay when you have an over night stop in Darwin The hotel is a little old However room was clean Reasonable food and drinks About 20 mins from Darwin central Had a lovely pool area with two waterfalls The hotel provides pool towels to use
