Rustic stay

This place is also known as Pelekas Beach Escape and you can see more reviews on google - although some on there seem overly negative. The apartments are neat and tidy on arrival, with working aircon and small kitchenette. The apartment/room is not cleaned during the stay (ours 1 week). The view is lovely and the situation in the valley below town and near the beach is great. Pelekas town, the valley underneath and the apartment lend themselves to a laid back, relaxing and rustic feel and you are able to have a more authentic experience than in other more commercialised areas. We enjoyed the peace and quite. There is a lovely pool, a shop nearby, the beach is 10 minute walk and many lovely restaurants to choose from. The area is hilly and while the walk down to the beach, one of the best on the island, is doable, the walk up the valley to town is not convenient and we had a car thankfully. There are downsides. The place seems understaffed and limited in the level of service they can provide for the price. It is family run and the owner was friendly. His elderly mother serves as the cleaner and is overburdened in my opinion. The hot water did not work well on some evenings - it seemed to have run out. The bed was a little springy. Finally, while the restaurant on the property has a lovely view and setting, we were put off by the dirty kitchen and lobby, which is used as a sitting/smoking room for the family, so we did not eat at the place. Regardless, we had a wonderful stay.
