I stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour. The hotel has a main reception area and the rooms are organised into a chalet-style village. The hotel is centrally located in Chivay, but that's not hard as Chivay is very small. My room was quite nice, I stayed here in the Peruvian winter and it was very cold, and they do provide for this. The bed quilts are heated and have an inbuilt body temperature sensor, there are heaters in the room and a hot lamp in the bathrooms. My room was very clean, spacious, and had none of the outdoors indoors! We had dinner at the hotel, it was quite nice and there were a good selection of things on the menu. It was cheaper than a restaurant in a large Peruvian city, but probably more expensive than a restaurant in Chivay town itself. The breakfast was excellent with a very large selection. The restaurant and reception/lounge areas were very cold at night and in the early morning, they had log fires which was quite nice. I would recommend this hotel as my stay was very pleasant, it's probably one of the nicest hotels in Chivay. Chivay is very rural and located in the Colca Valley near the canyon which is spectacular. The hotel is at a very high altitude of ~3,600 m which can cause altitude sickness, the hotel does have emergency oxygen for this.
The little stone house that provided my accommodation for the night was spacey inside with a comfortable bed and a hot shower. However, it was in the middle of winter and the heating struggled to keep the room warm. The electric blanket sounded fancy in terms of tech explanations, but did not provide much warmth either. Still, it was a nice place. The surrounding gardens and other stone buildings/accommodations let the place appear very rustic and quaint. Staff was very helpful and friendly, though the in-house restaurant only provided average meals. Again, the ambience was lovely, with an open fire glowing in the background. And the barman made great drinks with a warm & welcoming smile.
I loved the lodge style hotel despite some downfalls due to region. The rooms were big and comfortable, blankets available and electric ones as well. The WI-FI - do not even bother it is non existent unless you wake up at 2 am . Breakfast late and limited.
This was our first overnight away from the warmer climates of the coast and Arequipa. The cabin had a very high roof which meant that even when the heater was switched on a lot of the heat percolated upwards. The room facilities were fine. Despite log fires in the dining room another cavernous area, all guests (and especially the waiters) found it necessary to wear anoraks at meal times. The breakfasts were adequate, but the dinners were disappointing, compounded by us being served (on both nights) with red wine instead of the ordered white. Overall, if in the Colca Valley are this is a good place to be based at.
The individual rooms are perfectly adequate but fairly basic. Certainly clean and comfortable. Wi fi doesn't work in the rooms at all but works very well at reception. Reception is well done with a log fire (if needed) and a good breakfast area with decent wifi. Seemed to be quite a lot of packs of dogs barking during the night.
This place will reserve you rooms they don't have available- when you arrive they give you a different room. Additionally they will demand you pay 28% extra in advance even though their ads only mention a 10% charge - for service. Except the service is awful - although I got the sense that the problems come from management who is consulted on any tiny issue - the worker bees are nice enough. Don't ever trust reserving here as they falsely advertise rooms and other amenities which are not available. If you come in person they will charge nearly double - better yet stay elsewhere.
The hotel is organised into individual buildings. Normally, that would be fine, but the heavy rain meant that our shoes were very muddy as we went from our room to the central building. We had a problem after check in. Our bathroom and toilet were awash with scalding water from a leak. We didn't like to think what the brown material was in the liquid. Since my wife felt unwell, she wanted to be able to lie down and go to the toilet. We went to reception and asked for a change of room. We were told that the hotel was fully booked and that there were no other rooms available. We asked them to contact our tour guide and, miraculously, a new room was found! The new room was fine, but we felt that we should not have had to ask in this way. The restaurant is good. The wifi only works in or near the central building.
Hotel was very nice. Liked the bungalow style rooms. Used towel service for hot springs. Only issue is wifi access only available near reception area. Breakfast buffet was good. Could improve by replenishing it more often.
This place is a bit of a gem. You are really in the middle of nowhere by the time you get here so the fact that they can run such a neat hotel is great. Food was good, we were part of a large group so had a set meal, soup, alpaca and desert. All were excellent. Breakfast was good too. Only slight problem was with the lack of water in our chalet. I suspect it was a dodgy tap but as we were only there one night we managed. Forgot to report it when we checked out. I would stay there again, mind you I'm not sure what other choices there would be, I suspect this is the best.
