My husband and I decided to do a small weekend getaway just to relax. We have been to Hueston Woods many times, but never stayed there since we are locals. The “Couples Cabin” was nice! It was very clean. There was a small hole in the bathroom door when we go to the cabin. I took a picture and showed it to the front desk when we checked out. Overall nice place to stay!
We were out sailing last night and we stopped at the lodge to grab a quick drink and a pizza. I have to say that the pizza really surprised me on how good it was. The other couple with us also comment on how good it was. We had it in the Johnny Appleseed lounge.
Hueston Woods Lodge was the site of our annual mother/daughter trip. The lodge is somewhat dated but it's clean. We had a nice room on the lake - the room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the lounge and the dining room as the food was good as well as the service. We enjoyed the start park, Oxford and the pool at the lodge. There are a lot of family activities available - a great place for a family reunion!
My husband and I celebrated our First Year of Retirement at this lodge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were there during July 4th week. We tried to stay for their annual July 4th event but they did not have the availability. The indoor and outdoor pools were great. I was surprised that one of the lifeguards stopped my to check my cooler for glass, which I did not mind but other lifeguards did not search a large YETI cooler brought in my 4 young men. This should be a consistent task being that all coolers carried in should be checked or not at all. The dining room food was good. Their pizza was great. The bar had very limited hours which surprised us due to the holiday week. The lodge room was nice and roomy. We were on the first floor with the lakeview room. The nature center needs some work/updating displays and information. The beach is large enough for many families.
Not the first time we have visited and probably not the last, we have always enjoyed staying at Hueston Woods. The lodge is pretty big and has kind of a cool throwback feel. We reserved a room with a very nice lake view. The hosts are very friendly. The rooms are just avg size but pretty nice and clean, with mini-fridge, microwave, coffee machine, good tv, etc. The place has a relaxed atmosphere but there are pretty many activities you can keep busy with. There's a nice outdoor pool area with a great view of the lake and lodge, where you can buy a drink (they have a limited-hours indoor lounge too). The lodge has a decent sized game room and at the lake, you can rent a kayak, canoe, motorized Jon boat or pontoon. There's hiking and golf available too. And I definitely want to mention the restaurant's Lodge Burger by James, which was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The pot roast and the propeller fries were excellent too!
We stayed in a family cabin which accommodates 6 people. My complaint is that the "mattress" on the pull out trundle bed was just a plastic cover with a couple of inches of matting inside. I'm sure it is possible to find a better quality mattress since I felt like I was sleeping with no more than a thick blanket between me and the board on the bottom. It was not comfortable. There were a couple of items short in the cupboards, but housekeeping sent over replacements within minutes. Also, there was no outdoor picnic table at our cabin, so an employee came to move an extra picnic table from the cabin next to us, to the fire pit at our cabin. We were pleasantly surprised when someone called from the front desk to be sure we received the requested items, and that we had no additional problems. Everyone we talked to was very pleasant and helpful. The cabin was clean and cool, in spite of the very hot days. Unlike some other state park cabins I've stayed in, this one provided seating at the kitchen table for 6 people. It consisted of 2 benches and 2 chairs, as opposed to the 4 chairs I've encountered in other state park cabins which state they accommodate 6 people. The bathroom and master bedroom were roomy, but when the trundle bed was pulled out in the other bedroom, there was no floor room to walk along the side or bottom. We hiked some of the trails and were disappointed that when we reached intersections it was not clear which trail to stay on in order to return to the lodge. There are many intersections with the trail that we were attempting to hike because it criss-crossed with the disc golf game. More signage would be very helpful.
First time here and I’ve heard some good reviews. We had fun at the pool inside, it was a little chilly for the outside pool. I’m pressed with almost everything but the restaurant. Way overpriced and the service was very poor. For the remainder of the stay here we left and drive 15 minutes to get all our meals. Other than that the place was alright.
We've been wanting to visit this lodge and the timing was right. We had an excellent room with a view of the lake and the room rate made it a great value. Overall, we ate two breakfasts and two dinners here. The service was exceptional and the food was very good. Our only problem was their coffee shop was never opened. Oh they had a pot a coffee available, but it was not fresh, or even close to being fresh. I went over to tea, but the "hot" water was barely tepid.
We are staying here during a visit to Miami University of Ohio. It is a great retreat from the usual hotels near campus. Beautiful view of the pool and lake as we sat by the roaring fire in the lobby.
We were visiting Miami University and it was a perfect location, just a few minutes away from the school and very reasonably priced. We came in pretty late from a 5 hour drive and we were tired and starving. Luckily, the check in process was quick and easy and we were still able to order pizza at the bar that they boxed for us to take back to our room. We were very surprised because it was one of the best pizzas we ever had! My daughter, who is the pickiest eater with pizza, absolutely loved it! I had forgotten my prescription glasses in the room and Scott was kind enough to mail them back to me, which I really appreciated. He even wrapped them up really well to make sure they arrived safely. We really enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay there in the future.
