Everyone was friendly. The bed was so comfortable. Not close to many restaurants that are open for dinner. We had room service which was fresh and tasty. The room was clean but coffee and tea not replaced daily
We stayed here twice during our trip around the South Island. Our first stay was for 1 night prior to joining an 8-day coach tour, and our room was one of their standard rooms, which was perfectly adequate for an overnight stay, albeit that it was on the ground floor overlooking the entrance and car park. However the room was of a good size, with modern furnishings and was well equipped. The hotel bar and restaurant were excellent. Our second stay was for 4 nights at the end of our NZ trip, and because the stay was longer we had booked a Premier Exclusive room, which was larger with a comfortable seating area and a larger bathroom with a bath and separate shower, and robes. The room also had a mini bar area which was very well stocked with drinks and snacks, and an espresso coffee machine. The room was located on the 4th floor and had windows to the front and side of the hotel. The hotel has a guest laundry, which was very useful after 8 days touring, and also a small gym. The hotel bar is excellent, with heated outdoor seating areas, and served a good choice of drinks and food, and a happy hour each weekday. The Bloody Mary's restaurant specialises in meat / steak dishes but also a variety of other dishes and the food was good. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent with a wide choice of hot and cold food. Service throughout the hotel was generally friendly and efficient. The location of the hotel was really good, overlooking the leafy Latimer Square and within a 5-10 minute walk of the city Centre. We really enjoyed our time in Christchurch, which is still rebuilding after the 2011 earthquake, and the city offers plenty to see and do. If we ever return to Christchurch we would have no hesitation in staying in Rydges Latimer again.
This hotel caters to business travelers and is located right in the middle of the city center, yet they have a free parking lot! It is within easy walking distance to most of the attraction, shopping, and restaurants, yet the location is quiet. The room is what you would expected from business hotel and is up to date enough and I appreciate the guest laundry. No sign of the 2011 earthquake here.
Spent a few days here prior to Easter for a work trip. The hotel is new and the rooms have a modern decor. The beds are comfy but my room didn’t have much of a view. We had a customer dinner on the first evening at Bloody Mary’s. We got the private room with a set menu. The food was ok but not as good as the rest of the restaurant. The meeting rooms are good and can order barista coffee for morning tea. Overall, good location.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and it certainly did not disappoint! Dinner in the hotel restaurant is a MUST! The location is amazing! We walked to everything in the city Centre! Staff were helpful and the room was clean and comfortable!
A lot of our family stayed at the hotel for the wedding ; before and afterwards , and we were all very happy with the staff, the rooms , the beds, the food in the restaurant, and especially the wedding.
Lovely modern hotel. Good location. Room was spacious and clean, bed comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Loved the personal touch of a card hand written and with my name on it waiting in the room to welcome me
This hotel is very closed to the center city of Christchurch. The room was very large, very clean, well equipped and with a view to the city. Free Wi-if and parking . The service is very good in the reception and in the breackfast. At the last night, we had to leave at 05.00, in the reception, they reserved for us a taxi at a low fixed rate and prepared two packed breackfast .
Overall this was a comfortable and affordable hotel that well placed to downtown Christchurch. We stayed two days and otherwise found it quiet (even with a rugby team staying somewhere in the hotel!) and enjoyed the walk across the park each day. Unfortunately we ended up with a view of parking spaces on the ground floor, but that was a very small complaint. Also, not sure if all the bathrooms were this way, but ours was a handicapped accessible one that didn't have a "lip" around the shower – the floor was not concave enough to drain the water properly so much of the floor in the bathroom got wet during every shower, which was annoying. One small thing that won't affect most folks: Gay traveler here and was traveling with my husband. When checking in, the front desk clerk – instead of saying something like, "So I have a king size bed for two nights?" – asked something to the effect of, "One room? And a king size bed?" like he was skeptical that's what we wanted, as two men. I wouldn't call it rude and in general I didn't feel unwelcome, but his phrasing felt off-putting, like he was giving us every opportunity to change our minds or tell him that no, of course we wanted two beds. I wouldn't have been surprised by something like this if I were in a small town, but in a place like Christchurch it seemed out of place. Perhaps most people who stay in this hotel are business travelers or something like that, so it doesn't come up enough for him to "practice" a nicer way of saying it? Otherwise he was cordial, as was everyone else, so not a huge issue.
APT have selected an excellent hotel to start their tour around the Southern Island of New Zealand. The rooms were big and the essential bed was comfortable. The customer service was extremely helpful and friendly.
