After a stressful day due to flight cancellations I found myself in Christchurch airport at 10pm so went onto Wotif to find a hotel. Camelot came up on the top of the list so I went through the booking process and paid for a room. I jumped in a taxi and headed for the hotel. When I got there the reception was closed. There was an after-hours phone so I picked up the handset. After an age the phone was answered by someone who had obviously been asleep. When I told them that I had a room booked for the evening and I needed to checkin they said that reception was closed and that I should come back tomorrow. I said I had paid for the room and I needed a room key. They insisted that I would not be getting a room key. So I was left standing out in the rain and 6 degree temperatures at 10:30pm. Camelot - If you are going to take same day bookings after reception is closed you need to honour those bookings. I eventually found another lovely hotel on the other side of town but this experience has put me off Camelot. I will not go back there.
The room was fine and there was parking available for guests. We agree the rooms could be use some updating. The worst was that the bathroom faucets were so small you could barely get your hands under them. And they used some weird toilet paper dispenser that you bumped into when sitting on the toilet (and I am not a big person). But the location was good and the amenities were fine. The kitchen had everything we needed. It was too cold and rainy to use the outdoor pool and hot tub.
This motor lodge has large rooms - our 2 bedroom unit comprised a large sitting / dining room with good sized kitchen, one en-suite bedroom on the ground floor and another on the upper floor. The place has seen better times, particularly the carpet which was threadbare at the entrance door and the general decor. Reception was manned most of the time by a very obliging gentleman. Wifi was free but very poor to non-existant.
The motel is located close to buzzing Victoria street with lots of bars and restaurants. The hotel and rooms are a bit dated (as the Camelot theme). But there is nothing wrong with it, but a renovation wouldn't hurt.
No toiletries, no shampoo, no bar soap. No wifi in the evening or when there are many guests (mis-advertise on hotel website about wifi.). TV programs are bad, only sports, no news. Very noisy, thin walls and doors. Hotel room is clean, not enough lights in the room. They provide things we do not want (kitchenettes, ironing board.) Do mot buy breakfast (small packet of cereal, box milk, small bottle of apple juice, small cookies, and dry small toast.). Will not stay here again with NO WIFI.
This is not a bad place too stay, but they ned too bee more aware of when you can leave and when you must leave. They knogh the door at 0920 too ask if you are ready, Chek out is 1000 am. >Then they went too the next door and soo on. Its not posible too check inn at this place before exact 1400. If you are depending of Weefi, its a problem, very bad and slow. The rooms are OK, wee have tryed boat a large room and a studio, a litle old, but OK
On arrival we went to check in and could hear yelling from outside, went.into reception and the manager Joe - an Asian gentleman, was arguing with someone on the phone, he then saw us (myself and my children) and said to the person the one phone (yelled at them) you're just wanting to argue with me and then literally slammed.the phone down in their ear. He did apologise to us but he was extremely agitated. Checked us in, gave us no info and was not even interested in being hospitable. We went to our room which was fine or so we thought. The room itself well presented, beds clean and kitchen clean etc. Tried to get Dominoes to deliver Pizza ....they refused point blank for some reason so ended up having to go out again. Kids did án exploration and came back unimpressed so I went to look myself. .. kids playground looks pretty run down, swimming pool bottom all mouldy so wouldn't let kids get in it, spa pool in state of disrepair. Finally in room, no jug so used a saucepan of water, shower grout needed a good.scrub to clean mold, no can opener in room, sent my son to.office and they told.him there were none.on site then ten.minutes later knock on door and produced one. . Bit late by then. I know I should have complained to manager however after our unwelcoming entry didn't feel.comfortable doing that and we needed beds to sleep in. Definitely wouldn't recommend any clients to stay here, unfriendly and in need of some cleaning, repairs and.maintenance.
I stayed one night at this place alone at the end of my two week trip in NZ. The castle design of the lodge adds a certain charm to the place and the rooms were big, clean and comfortable. The reception lady was really the highlight of this stay though. from helping me book a shuttle, letting me borrow dvds from the library, storing my bags for me after check out, to the friendly chats she had with me; she is what made my stay so great. location wise, this lodge was further than i had anticipated but still walk-able distance from the city center - (even in the rain).
We stayed 3 nights to attend a sports competition group of 24. We were impressed with the bedroom and kitchen size, one house can accommodate 12-13 persons, good shower pressure. Efficient check in and service daily. Helpful information guide and walking distance to restaurants, grocery, pubs, casino & Hagley Park. The attic rooms are too hot during summer season. They offer room service breakfast but the Pavillion next door quite handy for buffet breakfast. Highly Recommended for everyone! W/ free Wi-fi & Full equip Kitchen.
The first room we were given had blood on the wall and on a light switch. Not sure how that was missed when cleaning. The kitchen was dirty, the shower head was broken and so dribbled water out which made showering difficult. The bedside lamp had no lightbulb and the wifi wouldn’t work for any of us. We were able to switch rooms in the morning after some hesitation from reception for the rest of our stay.
