Parkview On Hagley4.0 out of 5.0

The room at Parkview on Hagley was delightful: lots of space with a comfortable couch and a big bed. It did become noisy later in the evening as the local wannabe Formula One drivers showed off their skills on the street outside; bring your ear-plugs. The folk at the front desk were friendly, although the office wasn't always attended. But, bizarrely, Why does a hotel in the centre of a city not start serving breakfast before 8am?
Great place for a drink, but do not eat there. Every meal (4 of us) was burnt or at least well over cooked and small portions. Menu looked great and prices average but very disappointed! Drinks were cold and reasonably priced.
I stayed there for 3 nights for business and I had an awful time. Rooms are big and comfortable but the service is very poor. My bedroom was not service one day, breakfast is served from 8 am on Monday when is a business hotel. The reception closes at 8pm, so if you need anything nobody is able to help. Very basic breakfast and the service is horrible.
We stayed at the park view hotel with the tour group in February. Rooms are very spacious and clean. They are limited with outdoor space. Breakfast attendant and front desk personnel short fell for service. There were limited very basic items in continental breakfast.During last day of our breakfast they ran out of yogurt, we did not care for having yogurt but the way attendant handle the situation. Service is the key in hospitality business, hope you improve your service.
We have stayed here twice in the last week, first time had a great stay very quiet room (room 201 facing away from Hagley park) this was a fantastic big room, And couldn't fault it. However four days later back in Christchurch we stayed again and they didn't have a room on that same side, so we were right on the corner of the building above the very busy intersection traffic flights Deans Ave and Riccarton roads. This was a Saturday night and very noisy, terrible traffic noise and boy racers going up and down with loud cars until around 2am. Lovely big spacious rooms, but if your staying here I would recommend a west facing room, facing away from the park! Apart from this was good, and the location right by Hagley park was fabulous. Clean and towels changed daily.
Arrived there on my first day in New Zealand and they gave me a room upgrade. nice view of the park across the street.Very helpful on how to get to the train station with map and directions seeing was heading out the next day fro Franz Josef. Came back there about four days later and had even a nicer room. Made arrangements by calling the day before I arrived the second time to make sure I could get into the room seeing the office closed at 8 P.M. and not for sure what time the Bus would get in to Christchurch from Queenstown with no problems stayed a couple of days this time. Slept great each night and more then enough rough for a family to stay in if you are traveling with kids.
Forgot to stock the bathroom with towels. Lighting wasn't great in order to work. Make sure you plan to have breakfast some where else as the selection is limited to variations on bacon and eggs. An average stay, but would be OK for a couple of nights.
Upgraded on arrival, great location, over looking Hagley Park. After almost three weeks in NZ this, our last stop was a great place to reflect on our break. Close enough to walk into the city for last minute shopping, coffee or, just chilling out in the park. Great spot for the airport too. Would go back.
Our room overlooked Hagley Park ; we had a corner suite with lots of windows and natural light which was lovely. The service at reception was average, not overly keen to assist but did direct us to how we coudl find out more about local attractions.
We had an excellent spacious room(209) ,our comfort in which was only marred by traffic noise from the very busy road junction (the roundabout is now a traffic light) not blocked by the glazing. This was slightly improved when I improvised a packing ,in place of the plastic wedge which was missing from just one window catch. The room was comfortable with the windows closed all night, being very large and airconditioned. Equipment included a kitchenette, toaster, microwave oven, iron (worn flex),and plenty of useful furniture. The bed was a little soft for my liking, but had a proper top sheet with separate quilt- not the detestable duvet. Lighting was quite good, with no CFLs,allowing excellent AM radio, reception The luxurious bathroom had a two person jacuzzi bath, separate shower with proper door ,and a normal ,usable, basin. The building appears to have been undamaged by the 2011 earthquake, and had no ill effects from the minor one last week. There are three fire sprinklers in the room and a fire hose in the corridor. A good choice of cooked to order breakfasts is available. If you ask them to omit the ubiquitous Hollandaise sauce,be sure they do not think you want brown sauce instead! Plain but good steakhouse type evening meals are available, with some really good wines or a nice bottled dark beer. Apart fom the road ,there is a fine view mature trees and a public park. The Museum and Rutherford Den are a very pleasant walk through the Botanical Gardens. There are croquet and tennis clubs very nearby.
