We really needed some rest after being on the road for a long time and this was the most beautiful and comfortable hotel we had stayed in for a long time.

In visiting Christchurch there are few hotels that are still standing and in good/decent condition from before the earthquakes. The outside of the hotel is really nice and has a classic and timeless feels amidst the devastation still present and the ongoing construction to rebuild the city. The rooms were fine - nothing fabulous and definitely haven't been updated in 10+ years (likely due to funds being tight). We somehow received a two bedroom room, which was fine, but we really only needed one. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable and we received a queen rather than a king sized bed. This hotel is good for larger groups or people with extended stays since there is a full dining room and kitchen, which we really didn't need for a two night stay.

We were there over Christmas, and services were greatly reduced. There was no lunch or dinner service on Christmas day, and no dinner on Christmas eve. We had a large suite with a full kitchen and the bath and bedroom on a loft area above. A washer/dryer was included, but the dryer barely worked. We got a sheet to put over the sofa as it was really quite dirty looking. They only provided one use of internet/24hrs, maximum 1 hr. They staff were very nice and friendly and tried to be helpful. The best part of the visit was the botanical gardens, beautiful. Don't take the tram, it is $10 but only runs 1 km. The city is still devastated from the earthquake that hit it in 2011.

I have sleeped enough after long jorney from Japan, via Australia amd after have beem begun 2am, so tired andbefore of check-out at 11h,with breakfeast.

great hotel fantastic location car parking a bit pricey $20.00 per day considering that you do not need a car to get around christchurch transportation fantastic

We stayed for 3 nights. The location in the heart of Cathedral Square is perfect -- close to the museums and the Botanic Gardens, with lots of restaurants nearby. Despite the earthquake 3 weeks before, the city is in marvelous shape and the aftershocks are minimal. The hotel restaurant gave us a 2 for 1 buffet breakfast deal each day of our stay and the breakfast was great. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, arranging for transport to the Railway Station for our trip on the TranzAlpine. Christchurch is a beautiful, very walkable city and the Botanic Gardens were outstanding. We would gladly return to the Heritage.

The location of the hotel is just superb. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Sadly there was absolutely no view from the room. Maybe I ought to have specified that I wanted a room with a view. Breakfast was somewhat pricey. The swimming pool was quite small. Again, the location was superb.

Convenient central hotel, oppsite the cathedral, short walking distance from the main restaurant strip and the botanical gardens. Clean and pleasant rooms - a bit musty but that quickly cleared with the windows open. Quiet for a central location. (Approx) 25 meter two lane lap pool in the basement of the historic government building next door. Helpful staff who tried hard to make us feel comfortable. Free ride to the train station the next morning.

Located in the center of Christchurch within walking distance of everything. Good resturant recommendations from staff and a very nice bar next door.

Great location and helpful, professional staff. We easily walked to local sites or connected with transportation. The adjacent restaurant in a historic building was good--we preferred the food ordered off the menu--though the buffet was comprehensive. Highly recommend if you are staying in Christchurch. Our room was quiet and the bed very comfortable. We used as a base for day trips as we were not driving.

The Heritage is a very nice hotel located right beside Cathedral Square but tucked away to the side so it isn't noisy or busy right at the hotel. We had no complaints. It was clean, staff was friendly, everything was there that we needed. There was nothing remarkably different than a normal good hotel, but nothing lacking and we would go back for the best feature, the location.

This was a great "splurge hotel" at the end of a two week stay in NZ. Got a really good online name your own deal for the hotel and it was totally worth it. Everything was great---the room, the check in, the service, the cleaning of the room, the location, etc. Even has a nice little workout gym with a two lane pool. Didn't try the restaurants because the proximity to really good, moderate priced Christchurch eateries. Hotel is right at the square and a 3-5 minute from almost everything!

Nothing but good things to say... Staff was friendly, the room was huge, and super clean! Location is right in Cathedral Square, and the food the restaurant was decent! Would definitely stay here again!

Part of hotel is located in the historic Government Building complex, a stately, lovely setting. Staff were terrific, first-rate. Location is a stone's throw from the Square and close to the Botanical Gardens, a must see. New Zealand is off the charts as a vacation destination. Nature at its finest, and the people are impossibly friendly and polite.

I took a few organized tours, saw unique birds and animals, took a cruise to watch dolphins, went on a hike to a rain forest, took a bus to a Maori village, a great way to learn local history.

This was a great place to stay with nice large rooms right on the square. Everything was within walking distance and easy to get to. The staff was friendly and helpful even arranging for our transportation.

My husband and I were in NZ for two weeks celebrating our honeymoon. Christchurch was our favorite city and the Heritage was everything we could have asked for. The location is PERFECT! It's right next to the Catherdral Square and everything you need is within walking distance. [...]The room was large, spacious and clean. It was raining during our stay and the hotel even has umbrellas at the front door for guests to use! We loved it!

Rooms are very spacious. Beds were aweful, called twice to request bed boards. Front desk very disorganized and of very little help. When we booked a room for our family of four the web site stated free breakfast. But, when we went for breakfast we were told that we must pay $27NZ per child. Manager at restaurant unwilling to listen she stated that the message came from hotel. After breakfast requested to talk with hotel manager then waited for 20 minutes for her. She was rude and pretty much called us liars. I showed her a copy of our reservation which stated free breakfast-she said that was right but for two people since we were in a double room even though booking was for four people in the double room. After much discussion she did agree to free breakfast for all of us for our stay.
