Beautiful rooms - clean and beautifully furnished, fabulous service, very attentive staff and kind. This hotel is in a great location to explore Hagley Park or to walk into town. We will definitely stay again!
The hotel was in a quiet residential area across from the park and within walking distance to most major sights including the tram. The room had good lighting, complimentary WiFi, and nice amenities. You can get high speed internet at an additional cost. There are two restaurants and a bar on the premises. The service was very good. The George hotel gives you a small bear to take with you on your travels. They ask you to upload pictures of George during his travels. We would definitely stay here again.
This was probably one of my worst experiences of staying at or dealing with a hotel. One thing that was consistently disappointing was the high handed behaviour and a “we don’t care “ attitude by staff and management that we dealt with. The concierge service is the worst that I ever came across. My request for help with some of my travel arrangements was met with a quote from a service provider , which was way too high compared to the service provider’s quoted price on their site. On my request to deal with the supplier directly, I was told by the hotel that there would not be any difference in the price if I dealt with them directly. When I dealt with the travel service provider and asked them why the quoted price was much higher than their listed price, they responded to me in writing saying that since the initial introduction was through the hotel, “they had to acknowledge their involvement “ and hence the higher quote, clearly implying that there was a commission involved. When I asked the hotel to clarify if they charged a commission for an introduction/recommendation, they nonchalantly denied such practices and defended their position. Since the issue was sticky, the travel service provider subsequently refused to provide me their services despite me confirming the travel arrangement with them . While commission from service providers may be an acceptable practice and an additional source of income, hiding such practices is not a fair outcome for guests. Despite this frustrating experience, we decided to stay at the hotel. However, the general attitude of staff we came across was rude and condescending . The breakfast was bad and the dinner experience was replete with poor service and behaviour. The place lacked trust, warmth and care, the very essence of the hospitality industry. All this for a fairly high tariff. Not recommended!
Delightful, well appointed hotel adjacent to Ragley park. Incredibly helpful staff in every area of the hotel. You will be presented with George on your arrival. He is a small teddy bear with his own Facebook page where you can share his travels! Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of tempting dishes. Rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
This is a very nice place to stay. Very clean and friendly. Food is great here. Nice walk to the Botanical garden. Only inconvenience was the false fire alarm that was at midnight when someone had the showers on too long but the hotel offered a free night to make up for it. If I ever came to this city again, I would still pick this one.
right from minute we walked in door felt very welcome. sitting down to check in was great! Mark was great - very friendly and helpful. loved the bear on my pillow ! convenient for Hagley park. stayed 2 nights and felt very special.
We were made feel welcome from the moment we stepped in the lobby. The rooms are well equipped and the hotel staff is very friendly. Food was also very good. After a week in a motorhome it was great to spend two nights in comfort.
The hotel is in a good spot for sightseeing in Christchurch and our room was quite small but comfortable. We dined in the bistro on our first night, we had an excellent meal and the service was very good. However, breakfast was a completely different matter, I can honestly say that it was the worst breakfast we have ever had in any hotel. We had breakfast 3 times and had various different cups of coffee and tea, but not 1 of them was drinkable! The fresh fruit was very limited, the bread choices were very few and stale, the cooked dishes looked inedible, so we ordered a la carte which was also bad. Furthermore, when we complained the attitude of the staff was appalling. We were not the only people to complain, several did each morning but the response was the same. When we mentioned it on checking out, they were not interested.
I stayed at The George hotel in January of this year and found the hotel to be pleasant and comfortable. I had a corner suite and the room was well equipped and clean. It was a bit hot in the afternoon with the sun blazing in at sunset...and although the view of the park across the street was lovely, I had to put down the shade to cool down the room. The restaurant had good food...and seemed to be a special occasion restaurant for locals.
Nice and comfortable stay just 20min walk away from city center. Right beside the botanic gardens. Rooms are quite spacious and beds are comfortable. Parking is also free onsite. Room tip: ask for non-road facing rooms at the back if you are a light sleeper.
