While situated in an easy to navigate area of Chiang Rai, I believe this hotel is overrated and is more of a 2 star hotel. There are many issues that made staying here unenjoyable. The place reminded me of a Bungalow camp without any real conveniences. The room was spacious because there is little if any furniture that would make you want to relax. Upon arrival, I checked the closet and there was a pair of robes hanging but the immediate visible one had a big red stain on the front as if someone used it to sop up a red wine spill; it might've been washed but I wasn't going to use it? When checking into the room, the porter was excited to show me the larger than average refrigerator complete with plates, cups, etc., but there was no means other than a water kettle to cook anything… there were plenty of restaurant options nearby and a 7-Eleven within a 5-minute stroll from the entrance. The porter also seemed excited to remark that there were 2 free bottles of water (typical) but refrained from letting you know that you weren't going to get any more; every hotel I've stayed in replaces the free water every day! The wifi is a joke; I commented to my travel companion that is was 'kerosene-powered' when and 'if' it worked. You constantly had to continually log-in and for a long time it just wouldn't work; a no brainer in today's technology driven environment. Asking at the front desk about the wifi, the guy mumbled something about it not working and gave me another 2 login/password slips which did nothing? There are no safes in the rooms and if you want to lock up your valuables, you have to pay 100 Baht to rent a lockbox in the reception area. Not a very private location… Mosquitoes… the bungalow I was staying in had several bowls filled with water and some plants stuck in them; there were a bunch of dead mosquitoes in the sink in the morning obviously breeding in the stagnant water. The grounds and pool area are surrounded by lush foliage which on the outset looks attractive until you realize that they harbor tons of mosquitoes! Sit by the pool and your guaranteed to be eaten alive, a common complaint I heard voiced by others merely trying to relax after a long hot day. Chiang Rai is an interesting little town, worth the visit, but I would select a better facility with real amenities. The day we checked-out, he front desk told us to leave our luggage in the center of the reception area as there was nowhere to keep your luggage stowed and safe; the clerk said he would keep an eye on them but got up and walked away only moments later. I will say that the breakfast buffet carried the typical Asian & Western fare. My colleague tried to get a hard-boiled egg and could only get slightly cooked eggs with the whites still gelatinous and running clear. The place served its purpose but even with the TripAdvisor logo prominently displayed on the sign out front (and their certificate from 2007 prominently on display at the check-in counter), I would do some more research and see what other options might be available…

This resort offers good value and is well-located. I live in Thailand and would not hesitate to booking a room there again. Very nice pool, good parking, decent breakfast, nice/average rooms, and a friendly staff. The fact that is nestled in a very busy part of Chiang Rai is forgotten as you walk down the lush path to your bungalow. Flowers and bamboo everywhere.

The location is good if you are happy to walk for 15 minutes into the center of Chiang Rai. Rooms are brilliant with ample space - they are well furnished modern and clean. Wet room is large and an excellent breakfast. Beautiful swimming pool and surroundings. We really enjoyed our stay here.

reception is open plan and as you walk down the pathway to the individual rooms through the lush gardens its really great however in the evening in our room sounded as if something was on the roof however its not is rats running in the roof space when we spoke to reception he said it was squirrels sorry its not i have made a point of looking for appaarntly hundreds of them in the gardens and not seen a one and its strange that the massive rat infestation only start running around at night so if your put in room 308 309 go back to reception and ask to be moved as they are busy installing a septic tank and i presume the Rats have found new homes

Staying here for 5 nights altogether, and we have mostly enjoyed our stay here. The first night they put us in a room with an AC unit that didn't work. We left it on for a whole day, and it just wouldn't get the room cool. The first night we barely slept. The next day we told the front desk about it, and they sent someone to look at it while we went out. When we returned, they said that it was fixed...but it definitely wasn't. I returned to the desk and told them that we need a new room, which they gave me. All's well now. Make sure you check your AC unit up front, though...they don't seem to want to make a lot of effort to help you out once you are in a room. Also, we've asked the front desk and the maids 3 times now to clean the room before 1pm, but they just won't do it. As our 2 yr old goes down for a nap at 2, we'd love to have that done before we are trying to get her down. The restaurant is also pretty underwhelming, and REALLY expensive. Do yourself a favor and get food elsewhere. The good: - The pool is great. Love this feature. Really beautiful and well-kept. - The grounds are beautiful. It's such a peaceful environment - The room is great (now that we have AC). The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is nice, and there is plenty of space for our little family.

We stay with 3 family in 3 room. Unfortunetly, our trip closed with unhappy due to this hotel. Hotel not serve for Toothbrush, my friend's Air Cond not cold. And must be change to other room in night. They broke our Bag, and management is not good responded. I'll never comeback to this hotel

The review by "qualityimpressions" gives a great verbal picture of the Hotel. For me after some 19 days and about 8 mainly great hotels it is mid range on the Thailand/Malaysia hotel experience. Not because of anything bad, but high standards for the price makes what is a very good experience seem average. The main evening market is a short ride away and while they say it opens at 6 stalls are still opening at 7.30.

Laguna reminded me of the Sukhothai in Bangkok and the Navutu Dream in Siem Reap. The landscaping took some professional planning but well worth it. Clean bungalows and nice hour glass shaped swimming pool - adequate and well prepared breakfast buffet. However - as with any location, there's always "something" to complain about and my gripe was the rats in the attic area keeping us awake. And when we notified the front desk they did indeed send a staff person to the bungalow with a broom to chase away the rodents -- but as he couldn't access the space between the ceiling and the roof, he smiled and said; "Rats!" and left. The front desk did nothing to assuage the situation or even offer to have us change bungalows. Other than tow sleepless nights, Laguna was wonderful.

This is my second stay at Laluna and overall satisfied. I like the rooms and grounds. I am used to taking the slippers supplied at Marriotts and other fine hotels. Upon check out, this hotel goes and checks the room before one can leave. They informed me the slippers were not in the room so I fetched them out of my bag and gave them back. I could care less except that means the slippers were, and are used by others. I feel this is a hygiene issue and should not be done. I have no idea who used them before me and if they might have a health issue.I will re-consider staying again.

The lobby is large open air style. Sitting, listening to the music, and overlooking their beautiful garden is so relaxing I got lost in myself. The medium size modern style bungalow is clean. During the day when you open the curtain, looking out the window is a vibrant color assortment of greenery and plants. We did not have any problem with bugs. The pool is not so deep but very adequate for a nice relaxing swim. The setting around the pool, including the rooms closest poolside, at night has a romantic feeling to it with the way the lights are lite. Very quiet and relaxing at this hotel/ resort. The hotel stall can arrange your needs while you stay. They assisted me with tours, laundry service and even a relaxing massage. The location has a nice restaurant, very clean and professional. I highly recommend. You're just a short ride from the clock tower and downtown markets, If you like a little walk, in the evening take a short walk around. There are a couple of restaurants that have tasty food at a very reasonable cost. There are a couple of older Chiang Rai style, small Karaoke clubs that can be a lot of fun if you are a bit daring and you venture there. Not many foreigners but you're always welcome. After all, it's Thailand.
