The Imperial Golden Triangle Resort, as the name implies, is located at the Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai Province. It is a short walk away from the Big Buddha, the Opium Museum and other attractions as well as many outlets selling tourist memorabilia and clothes. A few restaurants are within walking distance but be aware that many close around 7.00pm. At check in I was greeted by two smiling receptionists. A porter had already retrieved my bags from the vehicle I arrived in. Check in was swift and when completed I was escorted to my room by a receptionist who said that it was her duty to perform this service. The porter was already waiting outside the room and when the door was opened both the porter and receptionist checked that all was in order, turned on the a/c and wished me a happy stay. The room was large and had a breathtaking view of the Golden Triangle. The view was spectacular and you could see the three countries which make up the Golden Triangle – Thailand, Myanmar and Laos as well as the Mekong River and its tributary, the Ruak River. The room itself was immaculately furnished with splendid pictures on the wall. I was truly impressed with the quality of the room furniture and wall hangings. A balcony had two chairs and a table. The bathroom was clean and had a bath tub with shower over. It contained a full complement of toiletries including shampoo, soap gel ear buds, hair dryer and tooth brushes. Both the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The hotel offered a same day laundry service. Wi fi service was free and 26 TV stations were on offer including the BBC news. In the wardrobe were robes and slippers and a safe. Free tea and coffee making facilities were available and two complimentary bottles of water were provided daily. A full stocked mini bar was in the room. Prices of some items were as follows; Chang Beer 320 ml 70 Baht, Est Orange 330 ml 40 Baht, Soda Water 325ml 40 Baht, Mekong Whisky 200ml 200 Baht Room service was available from 6.00am until 10.30 pm. An example of items available include: Club Sandwich 240 Baht, Pad Thai 210 Baht, Pepper Steak 580 Baht, Pork chop with vegetables and French Fries 280 Baht. Breakfast, included in the room rate, was served in the Border View Restaurant. This was located in a splendid building with magnificent views over the Golden Triangle. On the first morning I was told that there were not enough guests to provide a buffet breakfast. However I was given a choice being able to choose from American, Asian or Continental set menus. All items were freshly prepared and when I had finished I was asked whether I required more to eat. There was no danger of leaving the restaurant hungry. The next morning I was surprised to find that a buffet self-serve breakfast was provided. It seems that a few more guests had arrived. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner and from 5 pm until 7 pm the bar in the restaurant holds a happy hour. Only two brands of beer were available, Archer and Chang. In the immaculately kept grounds of the hotel was a swimming pool as well as several flowering trees. A nice touch was that at the foot of each tree was a sign indicating its name. The hotel provides guests with umbrellas to use during their stay. Useful given that it rained heavily for one of the days of my stay. The hotel will also organize transport from the hotel to Chiang Rai for 1,800 baht per car. The Imperial Golden Triangle Resort is a quality hotel. Its décor is pleasing, the front line staff friendly and helpful, the rooms immaculate and the views second to none. You will not be disappointed if you stay at this hotel.
Fabulous hotel, rooms large, all river facing for £20 a night including breakfast which was fine and always plenty. Pool was a good size for swimming and cooling off after a day out exploring. Great location to take a trip across to Myanmar and Laos. Is a good 45mins out of chiang rai only 10-15mins away from chiang saen which you can travel to for 50baht on a local bus! Amazing pizza restaurant Mekong a short walk fro the hotel too! Great hotel for chilling out at after a crazy few days in Bangkok!
We stayed here for 1 night while on a motorcycle tour of northern Thailand. Nice rooms, pleasant staff and good facilities. The deluxe rooms overlooking the Mekong river have a nice view and you can see Laos across the river and the hotel is walking distance to the the river boats if you want to go over to Laos Breakfast was good and the staff were helpful. Overall a pleasant stay and no complaints
Stayed here for one night and I nave no complaints my room was very nice I didn't eat dinner in the hotel but I enjoyed my breakfast and there were adequate choices The reception staff were helpful and courteous
This is a comfortable hotel with good views of the Mekong. Definitely not a memorable hotel and not near the major sights of Chiang Saen. However, you can have an image of local life by walking along the street near the hotel.
The Imperial Golden Triangle Chiang Rai is a big hotel with many rooms, all with great views, balconies, comfortable beds, good bathrooms, and tea/coffee making facilities. We stayed here two nights, eating in the hotel the first night. Not worth it, food is not their strong point at all. Staff very willing and looked after us. We had an afternoon by the lovely restful pool with a couple of drinks. Breakfasts they did their best but for food, go out. Plenty of places to eat nearby.
The hotel was ok... had we known the area was dead after dark we'd of gone somewhere with a bit of life. Booked a few nights but realised 2 nights was more than enough. As I had booked more nights I had to pay for them all... no discount for checking out early... which I understand.... but a bit disappointed. Food was nothing to write home about but there was a restaurant across the road that saved the day/night.
A beautiful hotel even though looks quite old. Quick check in time but unfortunately were assigned to stay on the ground floor of the building (Room 111) so we did nit have much views.. Would be better if there is more amenities in the room eg. hair dryer, dental kit, shaving kit. Breakfast has not many choices.
Make sure that you are not confused between the two Imperial hotels. This one is located out of the city and near the Golden Triangle. The hotel is a bit dated but still well maintained. Average facilities. Great food for breakfast and dinner. The view from restaurant veranda is amazing.
Great hotel offering views of the golden triangle. Walking distance to the Golden Triangle viewpoint/shops/restaurants. Hotel clean with friendly staff who go out of their way to ensure all your requirements are met. Rooms are a little outdated - but a nice size. Lovely restaurant which offers a 'Western Menu" as well as local cuisine. Surrounding gardens and pool very nice. Would definitely recommend when visiting the Golden Triangle.
