Stayed a few nights recently on my Chiang Rai holiday. Nice and quiet place between Chiang Rai and Mae Sai (on border). Each room is in a bungalow type arrangement. Rooms were quite comfortable and clean. Not 5 star by any means but well worth what we paid. The location was best for our sightseeing itinerary. Breakfast was quite good and had several open buffet options to suit both western and Asian tastes. It was a bit noisy when we arrived due to a large Chinese tour group staying there but the noise did subside before 8pm. Good value for money and nice gardens
We were following the Gold triangle tour, and this hotel/resort was included. Very nice resort, with a nice pool. We had a bungalow as we were with 3 persons, and these bungalows are spacious as well as the bathroom, which included a bath tub and a shower. Airco was working very well as well as the free wifi. The food during dinner is great. The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing, as most of the guests were Thai, so the focus is on Thai guests. But nevertheless, no complaints.
Paid less than 50$ for a room with breakfast and it proved to be very good. A hotel to stay if you plan to visit Doi Tung. It's around 15km or 30 minutes from Doi Tung. I stayed as I planned to visit Doi Tung in the morning. Room was spacious (the lead in Superior villa was about 40 sqm I guess) Room came with bathtub and rain shower. (reliable hot water available - important if you come in winter where the climate is 10c) They have heated swimming pool and tiny fitness. Breakfast was buffet with nice selections. Staff is friendly. Worth every $ paid. (Wi Fi is free, speed is ok)
Attended with a large group of about 50 people so had a good opportunity to look at the conferencing facilities, accommodation, restaurant and leisure side of things. The service was first class from welcome to checkout. The rooms are well above average for size and comfort, I stayed in one half of a lakeside cottage and aside from the separating wall being a little on the thin side it was extremely comfortable. I also visited friends in the 2 level motel style rooms and these look very comfortable too. The conferencing room #2 was great and refreshments and dinner served there were excellent. Breakfast in the restaurant was buffet style with a large range of Thai and some western food, with the Thai dishes delicious. There is a very basic fitness room and a lovely pool area. The grounds are expansive and well kept and the only caution I may offer is that in season the mosquitoes can be pretty large and hungry, but that's a given in Thailand, and nothing repellent can't remedy. My understanding is that it's pretty good value, but I can't comment any better than to say it delivers in comfort and facilities, but it's always worth a bit of research when you're in the pre booking stage. The resort is about 40 minutes drive north of the centre of Chiang Rai and makes a great base for exploring the gorgeous Doi Tung Royal Gardens and residence, Mae Sai and the golden triangle areas, and many others, all of which deserve an unhurried look around.
First of all you have to be aware of the really good price for value you get here. For that it is really a great place to stay. Comfortable and big rooms. Good Thai breakfast and friendly service. We enjoyed also a good dinner here, not to forget the pool. We went for a small hiking tour just up a valley and some hills near the village, visiting a traditional hill tribe village. Back to the accomodation: You might find some insects etc. in your room, but be aware you are in the middle of the nature. So a real recommendation!
With confirmed reservations in hand, still overbooked. Tried to get rid of us in à very easy way! After only long discussions we were offered à good alternative. Alternative hotel not found, so at the end we went to find à hotel ourselves! Bad service!
The villa rooms were full so they upgraded us to a room in the hotel for the same price, B1000. The room was great, well appointed etc with a great view of the mountains and the resort grounds. The downside is it appears from our 1 night stay that there main business is catering to large bus tours that fill the place up nightly, or at least on the night we stayed there. Breakfast was more Asian style but we found it ok and plenty to eat.
Resort on the way from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai, located on the street to Doi Tung. Nice, spacious bungalows. With swimming pool. Helpfull staff. During our stay (3 nights) we didn't try the hotels restaurant. Because we didn't find any other nearby we drove to Mae Sai for dinner.
This hotel has changed its name to Poonyamantra Resort. We stayed here on our way to Doi Tung Royal Villa so we basically only had dinner and stayed one short night... Our villa was clean but at the villa of one of our party staff had forgotten to clean the bathroom. Dinner was good, but only after it was re-heated as it had been served cold. Breakfast was great if you like Thai/Chinese style hot food but very limited for Western taste as it was limited to coffee, jam, butter and toast. I experienced this resort as catered for predominantly Asian/Thai crowds as on TV you only have local stations, all menus were Thai only and staff spoke only Thai.
On first sight, this looks like a great resort. Superior rooms are in bungalows - these appear quite small - and the more expensive deluxe rooms in a hotel style block. The grounds are not extensive, but appear well maintained. Upon arrival, we were pleased to be offered a free upgrade to a deluxe room and were escorted to the room. The room was very clean and well appointed. From there on however, things went badly down hill. It became rapidly apparent that the bulk of the resort had been booked by a huge coach party staying for one night as part of a visit to the nearby Mae Fah Luang royal palace. We soon discovered that the walls between rooms were extremely thin - even a TV in the adjoining room sounded deafening - and one could clearly hear conversations in the adjoining rooms. Those who know Thais will know that they love karaoke, and like all Thai music, this must be played at maximum volume. The coach party were accommodated in the function suite next to the restaurant, the noise being so loud that we found it impossible to eat in the restaurant, and thus asked for our food to be delivered to our room. The food that was delivered was amongst the worst Thai food I have ever eaten and we could neither of us other than pick at it; I've had much better food from a B20 food stall on the street, and regret that there were no food stalls in the area. Breakfast next morning was poor - at best tepid and little selection. Worse was the arrival of mini buses bearing a large group of Thai pensioners who were deposited at the restaurant for breakfast, thus placing further strain on the staff, who seemed unable to cope. The previous night's coach party left to be replaced by another coach party, giving a feeling of "deja vu". After the previous evening's culinary disaster, we decided to eat farang; this was equally unappetising and appeared to have come out of a tin, and then adulterated with MSG. We were once again treated to that night's coach party's karaoke. The following morning, as we left the resort, another coach party arrived, thus leading me to suspect that the proprietors have sold their souls to the one night coach party market. If you are happy in the company of boisterous Thai coach parties and to eat near inedible food - served by charmless staff - this is the place for you. If not, avoid.
