The hotel staff is very nice and honored my accor status very proactively. I got a room update and free pick up from the airport. The location is just ok, a bit far away from most bars and markets. Biggest problem is the age of the facility. It's absolutely outdated and needs urgent investment. Everything has some sighs of usage ( even the parking lot has big holes). The staff tries to make up for it as much as they can, so they are super friendly and super helpful. But for the price the location and the quality of the facility do not really match. I was happy due to my accor status and the associated benefits but with otherwise not have booked it.
The Mercure Chiang Mai was one of two places my wife and I stayed at on this trip to Chiang Mai. Were greeted well and check in was efficient. Were pleased to be given a free room upgrade which made the stay great value for money! Room was clean with a massive King bed. Good fridge with a freezer that worked well. Only negative, the bathroom developed a quite awful odor during the night from the drains. Once room service had been through, smell was gone, but came back again each night. Had one real bad night's rest due to a group of drunk, geriatric Koreans on our floor. I asked them to tone it down but didn't work. Perhaps hotel security could of stepped in to settle them? The swimming pool was a good size and deep, so children would need to be constantly monitored. Unfortunately didn't get to explore the area close to the hotel, but right next door is a Tops Supermarket. We didn't include breakfast so this came in very handy. There is a little coffee shop inside the to entrance to Tops which makes a pretty decent coffee. We used Uber to get around the city, as much less hassle than dealing with the taxi's. When waiting for Uber to arrive at the Mercure, best to wait on the main road that runs along side the hotel. Overall a good place to stay and somewhere we will definitely come back to.
The hotel is ideally located for those who want to explore Chiangmai. Just outside the old city, you have easy access to all famous sites, like the Sunday market, Night Bazar, and moat area. The hotel can conveniently be reached by public transport (red cars, tuktuk, taxi). The hotel is a bit in retreat of a main artery, but due to double glazing in the rooms, there is no noise. In front of the hotel is an open space with a parking lot, and just next to it is a supermarket with a restaurant and coffee shop, which proved to be very practical. The hotel itself is a bit old, the restaurant and swimming pool area could benefit from a little bit more cozy modern touch. The rooms though are spacious and comfortable. There was a strong internet connection and a handy table that can serve as desk. The staff is friendly, helpful and ready to provide information on whatever you might wish. All in all, a satisfying stay during the festive season.
We thought we could rest assured since it was Mercure. We had booked three rooms. Initially we got rooms on the second floor, but the corridors was dull and dark and the rooms were smelling of dust so asked for a different floor. Got rooms on the third floor. The rooms were smelling very bad - had to change one room. Had to keep the windows and door open for cross ventilation.
Everything fine on arrival, perfect staff on Reception, clean rooms, breakfast no western standart but this I dont expect in Asia.Locaion of hotel is not bad 15 min. walking distance to old town even if TUK-TUK very cheap take a walk.
I live in Thailand and promised myself never to revisit the Mercure because of poor customer service after our stay 2 years ago. Oh how things have changed. Management have really improved staff service skills to a level that made our stay this XMAS a really enjoyable experience. Check in was smooth and professional, bar staff were friendly and everyone else we met always had a smile and pleasant greeting. Aside from the outstanding staff this time around, our other highlights were the spacious room, the wonderfully comfortable beds, great bathrooms with constant hot water and the buffet breakfast which was filling and had a great deal of variety. Sure the Mercure is old and desperately needs renovation but in the end if the room is clean, you sleep well, the food is good and staff are highly trained, then what else do you need. I will come back again as I highly recommend a stay here due to the big improvement in the staff customer service skills.
We stayed here for 2 nights ending our trip to North- East Thailand and were looking forward to a nice hotel with typicial Asian Accor Standards. The room was o.k. but definitely would need a facelift. Staff was really nice and helpful, what cannot avoid my reduction to 3 points Also I can confirm what others already mentioned - the strange smell in the bath room, coming from the shower sink. The most disapponting experience actually was the breakfast when you know how great they are usually in 4 & 5 star hotels in Thailand. Nothing special and made without heart and no passion. Beeing proude of the Swiss invention of Nescafe, but a Nescafe coffee machine is nothing to be used in such a hotel. Also I would suggest to invest some money to buy 2-3 more songs for the lobby. I know the bossa nova version of the song "in suburbia" by memory now, as this is the only song played 24 x 7. Puzzling to ua was the statement for having an empty minibar - "anyway there is a supermarket close to the hotel". Used to the facts that Chinese travel groups have to made them heard when they have to leave the hotel around 5 a.m. - what wasn't a nice experience is that is sounded as they would do it in our room as there is absolutely no wall insulation. Hourely shuttle busses in the evening go the city - night market and to the Airport.
Being a Accor member for many years and having stayed in Mercure hotel many times all over the world , i was shocked with this hotel. The hotel looks old, our room have small ants everywhere and the shower towels was old and not even white any more. I asked for toothbrush and they dont provide. Any way i know i wont be staying at this hotel any more. The only good thing about this hotel is they have nice, friendly and really helpful staff.
stayed for 6 nights from 7 - 13 Dec 2017. It is outside the city center, but just 10 miniutes walk to the Gate. A clean and nice hotel. Staff speak good english and friendly. The room is big with a CRT TV (old style). Except one point, they carried out cleaning and maintenance for the pool without announement on 13 Dec. It would be good if they can post notice at the lobby. They have free shuttle to the night markey every night from 7pm to 10pm every hour. There is supermarket next door and a fresh market at 10 minutes walk as well. The fresh market sells fruit, vegetable, and cooked food at very very cheap price.
Was a short visited in Chiangmai and head to Mercure for couple nights, the room was fine with all equips I need, only the poor on WiFi system that was too slow and weak. I lost on the track for connect to everywhere while I was there. Acoustic is not perfect due to I can hear all the Chinese conversation next door. Over all is fine . Thanks for the team anyway.
