This is the third are Chai hotel we have stayed in and they are all excellent and value for money. The location of De Chai Oriental is a 5-6 minute walk to One Nimman a beautiful precinct for eating or shopping then a couple more minutes walk there is the Maya Centre. On the way to both these places there are lots of eating places so after a day’s excursion it’s good to not have to travel far to eat! We booked a Grand deluxe room and were not disappointed. As it was our anniversary our bed was decorated with petals and and flowers. All the staff are attentive and polite and the hotel is extremely clean. The decor is tasteful. Not a huge selection for breakfast but for a hotel this size is very adequate. Definitely a must for our next visit.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location Room is old badly maintained and dirty Restaurant is a joke The main clientele is from China The staff is rather hopeless I will not return for sure

Nice hotel in a really good location. Lots of restaurants around, a pharmacy and launderette close by. Kid friendly with friendly helpful staff. Nice room. Would definitely recommend it. Breakfast was good and offers a variety of things.

I gave it a 2 rating base on a four star hotel category. I think the hotel mis judge itself. It should not categorize itself as a four star hotel. This was frustrating because if it had categorised itself as a three star, it wouldn't get into my filter. Let's me started with a pro first. 1. Location. It is right in the middle of Nimman street where you can walk to places. 2. One good staff out of five staffs I met during my stay. Con. 1. Room is very dusty. I actually have to dust the hanger before I put my clothes on. 2. Bathroom, I just can't except it. The room that we booked had a very dirty looking and paint that need to be redone. After, I pointed out one of a kind staff move us to a bigger room. So at least I can use the bathroom without feeling disgusted. I am grateful to her. Otherwise, I would just move my hotel that night. The second room is better, it is a more expensive room. But it was still dusty. When we looked for the room, we want a hotel that has bathtub, and not a lot of hotel on Nimman has tub. De chai said they have it. However, we can really fill the tub as the water had no pressure and ran so slowly. The only good part about it was, we only use this hotel for sleeping. We were out most of the day. 3. Most of the staffs doesn't look very friendly. The very first thing they remind us was what was not included in the price. I guess it is important to be clear. But in my 20 years of traveling around. I am surprised to experience this in Thailand especially in Chiang Mai. There is nothing that I can say I am impressed about this accommodation. Normally, I felt like I never want to leave the hotel because I always was lucky to get a good hotels. But this time, I was so glad the day I check out. Cleanliness is important to me. When I felt the place is not clean, I just don't feel relax. This is one of the reasons I go for four star and above for my vacation. 3. Pillows are too high for both of us. But this is personal. I think if you like a location, this can be good. I found Eastin has a better location because there is a night market in front of it. If you have car, don't stay in Nimman. The hotels here are more expensive for very small additional values.

We received a warm welcome on the 18/07. Reception informed us that our room would not be ready until 2pm however they agreed to safely look after our baggage. When we came back, reception showed us some of the facilities and then to our room where our baggage was waiting. The deluxe room was very spacious and the glazed partition between the lounge and bathroom gave it a wow factor. Room was clean. Bed mattress medium/firm with a choice of two pillows. The bathroom in my opinion is a little on the small side considering how big the bed and lounge areas are. I would say that it’s difficult for 2 adults to get ready at the same time before going out. We did make use of the pool - we had to ask staff as this was not shown to us. The pool is quaint but functional with four sun lounges (they could do with a little tlc as the bolts and feet were missing to most). There was a prominent leak inside the lobby area which I noticed and assume this to do with the pool water ingress. The gym contains four CV machines and a rack of dumb bells. There is air con but you need to manually turn it on as it doesn’t appear to get used a lot. Now the important bit.....the food. I was a little underwhelmed considering the previous hotel and service we’d been accustomed too. If you require a hot breakfast (bacon, sausage and a range of eggs) then you place an order with the waiter and he brings it over to you. On day three the waiter had remembered we liked a black coffee and green tea to start the day which was a nice touch. There isn’t a huge selection to choose from. 3 or 4 cereals, 2 flavours of yoghurt, chopped fruit and whole fruit, some Thai food ie soup, curry and rice, sometime hash browns or potato waffles and toast with some croissants. This should cater for most taste buds but lacked the je ne suis que. After a couple of days, reception seemed disinterested in saying hello or have a nice evening. Small things we had become accustomed too. At times they looked bored or tired. During our penultimate day, my gf sunglasses and sun lotion were blown over the side between a gap. I told reception and they asked one of the Maintenance staff to help which they jumped over between a slim gap to fetch them. Great service. We didn’t realise until we reached the hotel that our room included free transfers from either the airport or bus station. Reception kindly arranges this for us. We also asked about late check out as we were catching another late night bus which they were accommodating and cost 1000 THB which was money well spent. Also we received a letter from the Manager along with a kit kat asking if we’d have a nice stay. Again a nice touch we thought. Overall this is a great little boutique hotel. There are some minor areas which need attending to in terms of maintenance and staff being perhaps a little more friendly but this doesn’t detract from the fact the rooms are large, modern and clean and the hotel itself sits in a decent location near Nimmana Road with its restaurants, shops on your door step and Maya Centre only a 15 minute walk.

Hotel located in great location with supporting facilities such as restaurants, bars and other retail outlets. In addition, it is located in an area with easy access to other parts of Chiengmai such as Mae Rim, Lana Golf course as well as having close access to the ring road. The hotel is well kept with friendly staff and the accommodation is well appointed with decent television programme in English. Food is of good standard with generous pricing

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Rooms are not clean , bathroom very dark and dirty. Pool small, not clean . I stayed 1 week because I prepaid . Staff of 3 or 4 always sitting on mobile not bothering to even look up . Don’t stay here, many nice hotels in Nimman

Very peaceful stay with simple but quality breakfast. We found our room a bit awkward, as opening sliding door to fridge and coffee facility hit my husband coming out of bath room, and more than once. So the interior decorating could be updated.

My cousin and I stayed in the Family 2 bedroom for 5 days and the room looks just like the picture. The room is modern and well decorated. I love how they had the master control, right by the bedside as well. That is the first time I seen a master control for the light and AC in a hotel. Although the room was lovely, there were some issues. There is a window pane in the shower and when the shower was on, the water would leak through the glass and into my room. Also, there was a foul odor in my room every evening. It may not be the fault of the hotel, but instead of the construction site next door because I had family staying in other rooms without that issue. I'm not sure what caused the odor, but it was definitely a strong and unpleasant odor that came from the bathroom and could still be smelled when the bathroom door was closed. That made me almost always scared to come back to my room in the evenings. I believe that the hotel staff was aware as well because once I noticed housekeeping had a manager, I believe, come to my room to check out the bathroom and toilet. Unfortunately they weren't able to fix that issue, but they were able to fix the clogged shower. The hotel is centrally located. It's literally a few steps away from nimman rd, which means that it can get a bit noisy. At night I had to deal with what sounded like a generator and that made it difficult to stay asleep sometimes. Once again that may be from the construction site next door, but I'm unsure. Also, there was noise, such as music, from events that happened in the area. For me, that was expected since I knew it was going to be centrally located. There are many places to eat nearby, two malls within walking distance, as well as many other things to explore. They were also a short ride to old town and even shorter ride to the airport. The staff was excellent. They were always willing and able to assist, as well as very friendly. If there was an issue they would try to fix it immediately. Housekeeping always thoroughly cleaned the room, leaving it smelling like fresh linens and flowers after every time they were done. The food is great. Better than most of the food I experienced on my entire trip.

My husband and I are in the middle of our vacation to Thailand and have spent a week here so far. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is close enough to walk to the old city or take a cheap ride, maybe 3 dollars. The breakfast is fantastic, a reasonable variety with American breakfast options. There is complimentary water and coffee every day in your room. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would be quite happy to stay here again if we ever make it back to Chiang Mai.
