Breakfast included is just coffee and toasts plus papaya in case you like it… anything else has a cost. Location is perfect in the lake in front of a nice island. Having kayaks is a plus!!!

First time we stayed at Balacar and the Blue Bird is awesome. You have to consider this is a remote small town so don’t expect resort accommodations. Hotel has bungalows with A/C, super cute, super clean and the staff is super nice so I would say they have everything you need. Breakfast maybe included but remember this is served at Bacalar time, around 9-11am and it’s light, fresh fruit, coffee and toast. If you’re early people like us, you can drive around 10 minutes to get to the main square and a block away you can find a Panaderia which serves coffee and sweets or sandwiches always handy if you’re going on tour. They have a great waterfront location, where you can swim, a sandbar just across and it’s really close to Cenotes Azul, Esmeralda and Cocalito. The Blue Bird has free kayaks and paddle boards you can use. Beware of the lagoon itself, three cenotes or sinkholes are in the lagoon so people have died swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding due to the currents, some of these cenotes are 200-300 feet deep and their overflow has fill up the lagoon. You want to use the equipment during the morning while the water is super calm but still have to wear lifejacket at all times. Hotel close its door at night but you can contact the front desk if you need to do a late check in or you’re back after 9pm. This is not a party town but you can still have wonderful time and food is delicious. Hope to be back to Bacalar and stay at the Blue Bird again!

Beautiful spot with direct lagoon access

Stayed here for just one night on our way from Chetumal to Tulum, had a great time. We arrived earlier than check in and they were happy for us to use the facilities while our room was prepared. It’s an absolutely beautiful spot, with lush greenery right through the cabins, then direct access to the beautiful lagoon. The free kayaks were fun, we took some around to a nice swimming spot. Staff were super friendly and helpful, helping us change money and call taxis when we needed it. Overall, loved our short stay.

Muy bonito y acogeedor hotel, lo recomiendo mucho. Tiene Todo en UN Lugar tan pequeno y hermoso, su restaurante y su bar super exelente. El Mueller con SUS columpios y su hamaka sobre la Laguna es genial, mesas para sentarse y mirar la Laguna y lo que mas me gusto que los kayaks son gratis.Muy limpias las villas. Muy super lindos y amables todo el personal del hotel. Muy bonitos jardines de dia y de Noche.

Nuestra estancia en Bluebird fue hermosa, las habitaciones son pequeñas pero estando en un lugar como bacalar no necesitas mas porque apenas y pasas tie.po dentro de la habitacion, el staff fue suuuper amable! Y el desayuno que incluyen es muy bueno, ademas puedes pedir otros platillos por un costo extra, bastante razonable, los otros huespedes heran tranquilos y amigables, creo que mi familia y yo eramos los mas ruidosos por ir con niñas pequeñas que estaban extremadamente emocionadas. Lo mejor de todo fue el area comun junto a la laguna, hermosa y tranquila que cuenta con kayaks y paddleboards para darte unos buenos paseos por la laguna. 10/10!!

We enjoyed our stay at this lush property on Bacalar Lagoon. The individual “cabins” and plantings were well maintained, and felt private and unique. The staff was friendly. We walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

The room was clean, and Angeles at the bar was amazing. My wife and I really enjoyed this unique place. For food you have to walked 30 yards to the next hotel tho, it's safe and food is good.
