From the Airport we took a taxi for 150 RMB to the hotel, we drove about 1h15min to the hotel. The hotel is located near the Panda Research Base and offers a free Shuttle Service to the Panda Base and the Zoo Metro Station Gate. We used that service every morning to either get to the panda Research Base or to get to the Metro Station. Sadly the Shuttle service from the Panda Base or the Metro Station back to the Hotel didn't work out for us, the bus just didn't show up. Instead of taking a very overpriced taxi back to the Hotel it is cheaper to take the bus back to the Hotel. From the Zoo Metro stationen take exit B and then bus 198A to ErTaiZi Zhan from there you can walk to the Hotel. It is located away from the city centre but it is a beautiful hotel and the city centre is easy to reach. The service itself is amazing! The concierge was always very helpful and friendly we felt really welcome. The breakfast selection was really wide and delicouse. The rooms itself is beautiful, modern, luxurious and really quiet. We are absolutely loving our stay here.
This hotel is convenient to the Panda Base. It took me 1 hr to get there in a taxi from the airport. The concierge staff were obliging and I was in my room within 15 minutes of arrival. The rooms are very comfortable, in fact luxurious, and good value for the price. I was upgraded when I presented my IHG member card. The buffet breakfast is best described as diverse with a large range of Chinese and Western options. I did not eat other meals during my stay as I went into town for hotpot one night, another night ate hot pot at a local restaurant 10 minutes walk away. The only drawback is that the advertised free shuttle that is meant to be available to take you to Panda Base, and onto Chengdu Zoo underground, actually seems to be always fully booked. So you may not be able to use it. The option is to take a taxi but the bellboys could have been more obliging and called us one. Instead we had to walk out to the main road to flag one down and it was literally freezing the evening we went out. So not an easy hotel to get out of once you are there. They need to improve on better assisting guests trying to get local transportation.
As a solo female traveller planning my trip in advance for ease and safety was key so I picked this hotel for the advertised shuttles. Firstly on getting to chengdu zoo there was no signs of a shuttle bus and after 1 hour of waiting I paid to make my own way. On checking in I enquired about the shuttle for the pandas the following day and was told it was fully booked. Thinking this couldn't be right I checked with concierge who said all shuttles for the following day were fully booked. However the next morning whilst getting about taxi I saw the shuttle bus empty. This is also low season so high season would be worse - maybe you can prebook nut there is no mention of how or a need to do this on their website. I found the staff to be pretty blasé - nobody was bothered and I was actually made to feel pretty uncomfortable in the common areas. The room was fabulous but I didn't travel from the UK to stay in my room. All in all a very dissapointing stay - staying in chengdu centre turned out to be more convenient for the pandas than this hotel so please reconsider if this is your reason for booking this hotel as it ended up costing me more with taxis! Shame on you Crowne Plaza for advertising false services.
If you plan to spend a short time in Chengdu and want to be near the panda base, this is the best place to stay. If you're planning to be in the city for the most part, and take a trip out to the base, it's better to stay in the city, as it's further than you'd think. The concierge staff was amazing. They were so helpful with explaining how to get places, writing things in Chinese for me to show taxi drivers, and arranging for taxis to pick me up. I contacted them ahead of time via email and they arranged for a driver to get me at the airport. The breakfast was extensive, with everything from noodles, soups, continental breakfasts, even sushi. The only option missing was fancy coffee. The room was absolutely huge and beautifully done. It had a walk in closet, a shower separate from the tub, and a tub sitting in the middle of the room.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights and enjoyed our stay. One of our friends is ambassador level with the IHG group so we asked for an upgrade, unfortunately they did not have twin executive rooms available. However we were told we could use the executive lounge during our stay. Our rooms were superior rooms and were good sized. They were as expected for a 4* hotel. The bathroom was average sized. We had dinner at the hotel in the Chinese restaurant. It had a few vegetarian options including spicy tofu. The meat options were also plentiful. We enjoyed our meal however they had a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. Which was frustrating as it was available at the bar outside the restaurant. We also used the executive lounge during our stay which offered food and drink between 5 and 8:30pm. I was very upset to find 1 option classes as "vegetarian pizza" clearly labelled but once it entered my mouth I found that it had seafood and chicken in the pizza. My friend notified the staff and requested for vegetarian food. They offered fried rice and an actual vegetarian pizza. However this time the fried rice which I did not fancy was eaten by my other friend and she told me not to eat it as it had meat in there. This hotel is in a good location to the panda research base. It is a good 3/4* star hotel on par with the expectations set of the brand. I would recommend this hotel but would not recommend the executive lounge/option.
I had the good fortune to spend some time here recently. It's fantastic. It's perfectly located if you wish to spend time at the Panda park and well connected with the new tube line to central Chengdu. The staff are fantastic and the Manager is not only very friendly but also very helpful with large groups. The breakfast buffet has something for everyone and the coffee excellent. The in house Chinese resto is also superb. The rooms are excellent and have the most comfortable beds anywhere I've been. Very friendly and comfortable hotel. Highly recommended.
We just spent about 3 weeks (Aug-Sept) at the Crowne Plaza Panda Garden on a recent trip to Chengdu and had a great time there. We opted for a room on the 19th floor with access to the lounge upstairs (beautiful and a great value all around). The hotel is very close to the Panda Base with a panda theme (including two really big "giant pandas" in the main lobby). We found the staff friendly and helpful. The service in both restaurants was very good and the food delicious. Everything from bananas at breakfast to panda lattes and lamb chops made to order (talk to Brian, the chef, if you've got any special requests). Plus great Sichuan food of course. The management staff asked for our suggestions on how to make our stay more enjoyable and seemed very responsive in all respects. They do get some big Chinese groups from time to time, but it was never an issue for us and never disrupted our stay. The fitness room is pretty good and there's a great indoor swimming pool. Even a beautiful area in the back to take an evening stroll after dinner. The hotel has a free shuttle to and from the Panda Base. It's easy to get to the downtown area if you want to check it out, but if you're coming to see the pandas this is the place to be.
My friend and I stayed for one night in end July and selected the hotel based on its proximity to the panda reserve. It was a very beautiful hotel but the concierge desk was just not interested to provide any services. We enquired about shuttle bus and taxis but got the feeling that we are troubling them and really weren't interested to help. Instead of helping us to get a taxi, he asked that try to book it ourselves on line.
Did my research and opted to stay out of town and near the panda base, smart move ! We stayed for four nights at the Crowne Plaza and loved every minute. Special mention to Rusty the concierge, who met us at the subway station making sure we got back safely ( easily negotiated) Every thing about this hotel is firstly class - service, food, swimming pool and beautiful surroundings a perfect ending to our China vacation. King room allowing us to use the lounge facilities once again impeccable friendly hospitality, even giving us a panda keepsake. The view was amazing from our room ( 19th ) floor and while sipping cocktails in the lounge at night. Had pre arranged a panda keeper's day via hotel with George, what a truly wonderful experience. We travel worldwide and this hotel I rate highly. Please do not be put of by the location or distance from Chengdu central, for the independent traveller + shuttle bus it's so easy.
Hotel is decent, location is way out of the way, and the hotel staff are unwilling to remove noisy guests. It's ridiculous how drunk people can just walk up and down the halls without being asked to leave the hotel premises. We complained, called the front desk, security was sent up, but until 3am, drunk people were ridiculously noisy. My kids kept being woke up, and we had a horrible vacation at the Crowne Plaza. We paid a lot of money for the two rooms we booked, but again, at the end of the day, when the hotel staff have to choose about supporting a Chinese person who is drunk and a foreigner who has nowhere else to go, they support the Chinese person. I go to Chengdu frequently. I'll never stay there again. THEY NEED A POLICY ON REMOVING GUESTS FROM THE PREMISES WHO PERSIST IN BEING DISRUPTIVE AT 2AM IN THE MORNING!!
