We booked a Deluxe room as the price difference was minimal compared with the lower tier rooms and it was definitely worth it. The rooms were immaculate, beautifully decorated and absolutely huge with an equally spacious bathroom. Location was good in a way that it is close to the Panda Sanctuary. There's not much else around the area to do or eat but this was fine as we were only there for the Pandas. The hotel's Chinese restaurant 'Canal Luna' was unexpectedly excellent. We did not expect much as it was empty on a Friday evening and only ate there as we were lazy to leave the hotel, but everything we ordered were delicious. The bill came to about 400rmb for two people which was very reasonable for a Hotel restaurant. Breakfast was also great with an excellent range of western and Chinese food. Concierge was very helpful, especially with organising transportation. One of the things that I thought could be improved were communication. Staff lack English skills as the front desk struggled to check us in and explain standard check-in information like the price, times/hours etc. At times, we felt that staff were a little curt with us but I think that was generally due to the language barrier as well. Housekeeping and pool staff speak close to no English. Some other minor mishaps were - faint sewerage smell coming from the toilet area in the bathroom and Housekeeping ignored our request not to disturb and barged in during the day. The amenities, though extensive, smell terrible. Overall it was a lovely stay and positives overwhelmingly outweighed negatives.
A very luxurious hotel. Offers a complimentary breakfast that was delicious. Served foods from all over the world. Hotel offered a monetary exchange unit and English speaking staff. One complaint I would have with my stay is that there is way too much smoking going on. Everywhere you went it smelled like cigarette smoke, whether someone is smoking at that time or not. I personally walked into the elevator with three men lighting up with children in there with them. This part of my stay was frustrating but the rest of my stay was very nice. I would return.
I’m very fortunate to get to stay at this hotel 3-4 times a year and it just keeps getting better each time. The staff is friendly and happy to please. They will help you with anything you need. In the evenings, after dinner, the lobby bar is a great place to socialize. Quite often there is live entertainment from 7-9 and the bartenders, Rebecca, Sunny and Mary never leave you with an empty glass. They make business travel much more tolerable and are always ready for some friendly conversation.
My trip was a combination of business and leisure. This clean, well run hotel was in a good location with easy access to the Panda reserve. Rooms were functional as were the bars. I didn't use the restaurant but it appeared the same.
I chose this hotel as I wanted to be near the panda sanctuary. This hotel offers a free shuttle to the panda sanctuary, which was great. The hotel is far from the main city center, but that means you also have a more natural view out of your hotel room window. There was a gorgeous green space and chapel that I could see from my window. The buffet breakfast was great with lots of variety. I had a more expensive room, but it was still very reasonably priced. It had a gigantic bathroom, bed and living area. It felt very VIP. I also heard there was a karaoke bar in the hotel, but I was unable to try it. I would recommend this hotel to those who want to easily access the panda sanctuary, not spend a lot of money and enjoy a calmer, more serene atmosphere.
Booked here just for its location to the panda base. Really got lucky and the price was amazing!! Really grand lobby. Friendly staff upon arrival and quickley get our keys. Room was huge and well equipped with views into the distance of chengdu skyline. The restaurant was great with a huge variety of food and deserts. Attentive waiting staff good value for money. Made use of the inside pool was nice to get a few lengths in then the sauna. Was no trouble for reception to help us get cabs booked for the next mornings usually between 6am and 7am and they were always there. Was even helped to get an uber (chinese uber) to the new global center by a reception guy. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. It's obvious they had a lot of trainees but they were all supervised and it won't take long to be as good the other staff here. A very well run hotel indeed. I'm going to have to go back in the summer to enjoy the grounds and outdoor pool but it was just a tad cold in January. Thank you CP
From the Airport we took a taxi for 150 RMB to the hotel, we drove about 1h15min to the hotel. The hotel is located near the Panda Research Base and offers a free Shuttle Service to the Panda Base and the Zoo Metro Station Gate. We used that service every morning to either get to the panda Research Base or to get to the Metro Station. Sadly the Shuttle service from the Panda Base or the Metro Station back to the Hotel didn't work out for us, the bus just didn't show up. Instead of taking a very overpriced taxi back to the Hotel it is cheaper to take the bus back to the Hotel. From the Zoo Metro stationen take exit B and then bus 198A to ErTaiZi Zhan from there you can walk to the Hotel. It is located away from the city centre but it is a beautiful hotel and the city centre is easy to reach. The service itself is amazing! The concierge was always very helpful and friendly we felt really welcome. The breakfast selection was really wide and delicouse. The rooms itself is beautiful, modern, luxurious and really quiet. We are absolutely loving our stay here.
This hotel is convenient to the Panda Base. It took me 1 hr to get there in a taxi from the airport. The concierge staff were obliging and I was in my room within 15 minutes of arrival. The rooms are very comfortable, in fact luxurious, and good value for the price. I was upgraded when I presented my IHG member card. The buffet breakfast is best described as diverse with a large range of Chinese and Western options. I did not eat other meals during my stay as I went into town for hotpot one night, another night ate hot pot at a local restaurant 10 minutes walk away. The only drawback is that the advertised free shuttle that is meant to be available to take you to Panda Base, and onto Chengdu Zoo underground, actually seems to be always fully booked. So you may not be able to use it. The option is to take a taxi but the bellboys could have been more obliging and called us one. Instead we had to walk out to the main road to flag one down and it was literally freezing the evening we went out. So not an easy hotel to get out of once you are there. They need to improve on better assisting guests trying to get local transportation.
As a solo female traveller planning my trip in advance for ease and safety was key so I picked this hotel for the advertised shuttles. Firstly on getting to chengdu zoo there was no signs of a shuttle bus and after 1 hour of waiting I paid to make my own way. On checking in I enquired about the shuttle for the pandas the following day and was told it was fully booked. Thinking this couldn't be right I checked with concierge who said all shuttles for the following day were fully booked. However the next morning whilst getting about taxi I saw the shuttle bus empty. This is also low season so high season would be worse - maybe you can prebook nut there is no mention of how or a need to do this on their website. I found the staff to be pretty blasé - nobody was bothered and I was actually made to feel pretty uncomfortable in the common areas. The room was fabulous but I didn't travel from the UK to stay in my room. All in all a very dissapointing stay - staying in chengdu centre turned out to be more convenient for the pandas than this hotel so please reconsider if this is your reason for booking this hotel as it ended up costing me more with taxis! Shame on you Crowne Plaza for advertising false services.
If you plan to spend a short time in Chengdu and want to be near the panda base, this is the best place to stay. If you're planning to be in the city for the most part, and take a trip out to the base, it's better to stay in the city, as it's further than you'd think. The concierge staff was amazing. They were so helpful with explaining how to get places, writing things in Chinese for me to show taxi drivers, and arranging for taxis to pick me up. I contacted them ahead of time via email and they arranged for a driver to get me at the airport. The breakfast was extensive, with everything from noodles, soups, continental breakfasts, even sushi. The only option missing was fancy coffee. The room was absolutely huge and beautifully done. It had a walk in closet, a shower separate from the tub, and a tub sitting in the middle of the room.
