Perfect location if you want to experience more of traditional Chinese culture. Speaking no Chinese myself I appreciated there was always a staff member on call who spoke English. Excellent breakfast buffet comes with the cost of the room. Best not to miss it! A little tricky to find the hotel entrance as it is located within Folk town. That being said it gives you walking access to wonderful artisan shops and the Wenshu Temple nearby. I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy a culture exchange set up in the street with various theatrical and musical performances from many countries with performers dressed in their local garb. Ended my day in one of the many delightful tea rooms.

I loved this hotel! It is aesthetically pleasing in all of its details. Don't overlook the 4th floor garden and view. The room was comfortable. There is no elevator. I was on the 2nd floor overlooking the street activity and shops below - think of a 'lane' rather than a street. Beware: you cannot drive up to the hotel. Could be quite difficult to find the first time. Also, don't count on front desk staff for 'tourism' help in English. And ... don't overlook the great foot massages - $18 for an hour.

Excellent location. Super friendly staff and unique décor. Probably will stay there again when I come to Chengdu again.

The hotel is inside a mysterious Budda place, although i can speak chinese, it still takes me a while to find the place. But after that was a big wow of the staff, the room and the whole surrounding area! Can't wait to stay there again and with all good small restaurants around, that is heaven!

Located near a subway line, food district, and a temple, the place takes care of a lot of the things a tourist might like to do in town. The buddha theme is interesting, and the lodging has an old-time feel, but is actually quite new.

...but be sure to write down the phone number of the hotel, because most of the taxi drivers don't know how to find it and it is on a walking street with no cars...so a bit tricky. But very fun, comfortable, and well located.

Love the location, great value for money and friendly staff.

I've been going to the Buddha Zen Hotel for 4 years. Of course I look forward to being in that environment but I also look forward to seeing the staff. They are wonderful people who create a very special atmosphere in the hotel.

A great place to stay, family orientated, staff helpful, the area is brilliant. Loved it. The garden was good we really enjoyed our stay.

This boutiques hotel was staffed with friendly bilingual staff, warm and welcoming and helpful with all questions; there was a reasonably priced spa on site that we enjoyed after a long journey; the on-site breakfast was just what we needed after a week of eating in tiny storefronts, and the rooms were lovely. do NOT expect a third bed or cot ...even though it was offered, it is a little camp cot and booking a second room is a better bet! We felt spoiled and refreshed by the time we left! I highly recommend this hotel as it was easy enough to get to banks and the subway and taxis, while still feeling as if we were in a little village(one of the rebuilt "old neighborhoods" in Chengdu).

Great location for shopping and eating to experience different culture. Difficult for first driver to locate and no vehicle entry to hotel door. Hotel staff exceptionally helpful. Hotel Restaurant was great. Sorry I missed breakfast the first morning with a 7.30am departure to the Chengdu Panda Centre. A lift and a disabled toilet on Ground floor would be a bonus(I had a serious ankle sprain - difficult with stairs).

I've had four visits at this hotel and it's always felt like a safe haven in the very busy metropolis of Chengdu. The staff is wonderful. This time I tried a full body Chinese health massage and received excellent service. My only negative comment is that the restaurant could be bigger and better.

The BuddhaZen was a wonderful hotel and in a great location. The area had lots of shopping and restaurants. The hotel was beautiful and wonderfully designed. The beds were very comfortable. The staff was amazing and so helpful. They really went out of their way to assist me. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. I can't wait to stay there again.

charming atmosphere with authentic buddhist decoration. Very comfortable rooms and attentive staff. Highly recommend.

Buddha Zen is located in the historic Wenshu section of Chengdu, about an hour's taxi ride from the airport (about 100 Yuan = $14). It is surrounded by local shops and street vendors in a part of town untouched by development, right across the street from the Wenshu buddhist monestary a famous and very authentic site that is not to be missed. The hotel staff is very accomodating and the facilities are perfectly acceptable by western standards although it is decidely Chinese in flavor. This is not a western tourist hotel, but hey, you are in China, and this is a great and interesting place to stay with a very calming buddhist feel. Try a foot massage in the spa and be sure to eat in the restaurant. But I would avoid the grasshopppers-on-a-stick (available from the local street vendors)

VERY UNUSUAL, LOTS OF BUDDA ART, FOOD GOOD, STAFF HELPFUL, I'D STAY AGAIN. JDH

The hotel is really great it's quiet and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only place I would stay in Chengdu.

Great hotel, interior courtyard, lovely plants and decorative items. Located on a walking street so somewhat hard to locate and then a walk to get a cab out. Surrounded by streets - check room first for noise level. Wifi in the courtyard area, very slow. Surrounded by shopping and areas to walk. We thought the area was the best part of Chengdu. We went to the Panda Research Center which we enjoyed very much; about a 30 minute cab ride from hotel.
