Many visitors fly to Timmins for its natural beauty. In the winter, snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities. The city even has ski lodges. Many of the city s top destinations are parks, conservation areas, golf courses and resorts.
Those who enjoy arts and culture will appreciate the La Galeruche Art Gallery and the Pioneer Museum. For athletes and sports fans, Timmins offers the Whitney Arena, the Mountjoy Arena and the Archie Dillon Sportsplex. The star of the show, however, is Kettle Lakes Provincial Park. This park offers extensive hiking trails as well as canoeing, fishing, swimming and bird-watching opportunities, and visitors can take guided tours to learn about the wonders of nature. Guests can set up their tents at one of the many campsites in the park's two campgrounds.
You can fly to Timmins via the Timmins Victor M. Power Airport (YTS). To get into town, you can take a train to the station on Spruce Street in the heart of the city, or you can drive along Highway 101 or Highway 65. When visiting Timmins, keep in mind that temperatures can get as low as minus 40 degrees in the winter and as high as 87 degrees in the summer, so be sure to plan and pack accordingly. There are many events held in town during the year, including Art and Culture Routes, the Summer Science Expedition and the Multicultural Festival.
