Flying into Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo is home to three airports-the Viracopos-Campinas International Airport, the Congonhas-Sao Paulo Airport and the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport. However, the Viracopos-Campinas International Airport is located 62 miles from the city and is only used for flights to Sao Paulo when weather conditions prevent flights from landing at the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, the city's main airport. Located about 24 miles from the center of the city, the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport offers numerous ground transportation options. You can take a taxicab into the city for between R$100 and R$140. You can also take the bus for R$4.30 or the Metro for R$33. If your flight arrives at the Congonhas-Sao Paulo Airport, you'll find taxicabs outside of the terminal, or you can take the bus into the city for R$3.

Sao Paulo features a humid subtropical climate with warm, mild winters and hot, wet summers. During the summer season, from October through March, the average Fahrenheit temperature ranges from the high 50s to the low 80s. The winter, from April through September, is the best time to visit Sao Paulo. During this time, the average temperature ranges from the low 50s to the high 70s and the weather is drier. Sao Paulo is broken up into six different sections. In the Centro District, you can explore the historic downtown area. Key points of interest include the Patio do Colegio, a partial reproduction of the city's old mission; Praca de Se square, which features the Cathedral da Se; the Banespa Tower; and the Sacred Art Museum. You'll find the city's best restaurants in Higienopolis, the Rua Oscar Freire in Jardins, and numerous trendy bars in Vila Madalena.
