Our room smelled so terrible we had to request a different room. This property is musty and dark. It is in desperate need of a makeover. Would not recommend it.

The rooms are spacious as with all Embassy Suites and the staff / common areas are great. The downside is the age of the facility, the lack of windows in the rooms, and the sound. The common area for breakfast echoed throughout the entirety of the place and was easily heard in the rooms beginning at 6am.

The property needs a total renovation. Our room was literally falling apart and smelled of mildew. The carpet and furniture was so old and dirty that I did not want to sleep there. On the plus side, the breakfast was great and the staff very nice.

The staff was fanatic very friendly and helpful great front desk people who were so helpful making food suggestions directions friendly described the whole atmosphere

There are a few rooms that have ZERO windows. They pitch it as historic, but they were gunpowder rooms. Orbitz has done a terrible job of doing their diligence in listing rooms that have no mention of a room that is basically like a jail cell. The main area of the hotel is pretty nice. Most of the staff was indifferent of our complaint about our room and rude in a few cases including knocking on our door at 9am to see if we could check out early.

The staff were very good. The location is very good. The hotel has a lot of wear and tear. It’s time for a refurbishing. The rugs are old and worn out. The bathroom wallpaper is very beat up and patched.

Rooms aren't very clean and the AC isn't very cold. Location is good, but the rooms need to be better for the price.

This is in a great location and is a cool historic building. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is in need of renovation. The room felt dirty and the whole building seemed dingy.

Hotel is a little dated and could use a refresh but the location is perfect! Walkable to everything

There are some positives about this hotel, but also some negatives. The biggest positives are the location since you can walk, uber, or take the free Dash shuttle just about anywhere in the historic district, the complimentary breakfast each day, and the complimentary happy hour in the bar each night for 2 hours. Free bar drinks is a perk you don't see much. The negatives are the overall condition and cleanliness of the hotel and rooms was not what I was expecting for the rates charged. In our room, the carpet was stained and well worn, the tub leaked so we had to have towels on the floor, and the furniture was beat up and old. It wasn't 'charming and historic' feeling so much as just aged and in need up some updating. We also had an issue at check in where they did not have a queen room available which is what we had reserved weeks in advance. They could only give us a room with two doubles, so my wife and I had the choice of sleeping in separate beds or squeezing into one double bed together. They immediately offered to comp us one night for the trouble, which we accepted of course. However, we found out at checkout that no one had made any notes on our account or anything about the comp offer so we had to re-explain the situation to the new staff and then we were told we had to 'do the legwork' ourselves to get one night refunded since we had booked through a third party. We got our refund by calling Orbitz but it could have been handled better.

On the reservation sheet from Orbitz, check-in was listed as 3:00, did not get into our room until 4:30. We had requested in our reservations a king bed, we had a full. There was amildew smell to the room, finally discovered the source, mold around the air vent. The carpet was not clean. The staff was kind, it was the facilities not the personnel. I understand it's an older hotel but these things that I mentioned are easily fixed. We had stayed at this hotel 20 years ago and it was a wonderful experience. Totally disappointed this time, probably will not be back until they make some changes.

Sad very sad room very tiny bed against the wall just crazy .... checked out after one day was planing on staying two

Rooms need full renovation. Old fancies in guestrooms very dirty and room given looked directly into construction site of a hotel being built next door. Good staff

Overall, the hotel is decent and is in a really good location to tour Historic Charleston. The hotel staff were friendly and the daily happy hour and breakfast were really nice. On the outside, the hotel is really quite interesting and impressive. The bad part of the hotel was the servicing of our room. We stayed for 4 nights and our room was only cleaned once. After two nights in the hotel, we had to beg the employees at the front desk to have someone clean our room. Not only did we have to ask once, but we had to ask a second time for our room to be cleaned. In addition, upon arrival, we did not have any shower towels, and we had to go in search for some. Definitely not what we were expecting from an Embassy Suites Hotel. That was disappointing. The other disppointing part was the gym. The hotel is decribed to have a gym, but it was just a small room with an Ellyptical machine and a treadmill. I would not really describe this as a gym.

Booked as part of a wedding group, the staff was excellent.
