Pleasantly situated by Parc Charruyer, the hotel is quiet compared to being in the centre of town, and the park itself brings a welcome change from the busy town centre which heaves with tourists. The hotel is fairly modern with unremarkable but adequate facilities and décor. Our room was considerably smaller than those of other Novotels I've known in the past, and a bit tight in places (eg: small WC, and a squeeze between twin bed and bathroom door). They provide coffee/tea making facilities in the room, and a small fridge with a complimentary bottle of water. The free in-room wi-fi works fine; the list of TV stations mentions only French ones. The bed and duvet were very comfortable. Breakfast was good and provided all that was required (€16.50 pp). We recommend asking to be on the park side, as the alternative seems to be a view over the car park. The hotel has a restaurant, where the menu is not particularly extensive, but perfectly adequate, and save for party evenings in the hotel, is again quiet compared to the town centre and the many restaurants crowded around the harbour area. We found the food to be well presented and copious, but expectations need to managed: it is neither gastronomic nor refined – just good. If you want a reasonable supper without having to walk back to the hotel afterwards, it hits the spot. It's only a 5-8 minutes walk from the hotel to the old harbour with its famous landmark towers and the town centre.
We arrived after a 10/15 minute walk from the centre of town. When we arrived our room felt like it was hurriedly put together, no toiletries, 1 of the beds hadn't been made up, no teas or coffees, the fridge wasn't stocked. We were realizing things bit by bit so it was rather annoying having to run to the cleaner every 2 minutes. Another fault was the loud building work going on at the hotel, there was a sign down at reception noticing guests but by this point we had already booked it? It kind of ruined the relaxing atmosphere. The hotel itself is very well decorated and the breakfast was okay- the usual buffet selection but the breakfast area looked onto a rather scruffy and un maintained swimming pool- thank god I wasn't there in summer! I would not have been using that! Therefore I don't think it was quite worth the money.
My stay at this place can be described in a monosyllable, i.e. "splendid". Since I had reached the hotel with my set of troubles of my lost luggage and the uncertainty whether I will be able to continue my trip or have to return to India. This place gave me some solace, as I had stayed here for a day or so. I checked-in at around 12 midnight and checked-out at 17:00hrs next day. As I had no luggage so i didn't had my basic necessities, but the staff were very cooperative and friendly, they helped me alot. Since this hotel is centrally located the markets were nearby, just a 10 mins walk to the shops. There I bought my basic supplies to survive the following days if my luggage doesn't turn up. The city was a historical beauty and the hotel was at a wonderful location, just five minutes walk through a park to the beach. So one can explore the old City. Only think I found little inconvenient was the separate toilet and bath in the room. Overall experience was good, and would love to come back to this place again in future.
Welcoming staff on reception, comfortable room with a view of the park (requested on checking in). Everything you would need and good wifi. Breakfast excellent lots of hot and cold choices. Nice quiet location.
Chose this hotel for the secure parking and that worked very well. The hotel itself is fine, but really needs refurbishing. Everything about the bedrooms is dated. Having said that the service is very good indeed.Staff are welcoming and friendly. It is near the city centre. So couldn't complain really.
Parking is useful, it's a good location near a park and not too far from the town centre. We have stayed many times, and will do so again. They are still struggling to provide hot components of the food offering at breakfast.
We stayed here for one night en route back to UK. Large comfortable room, Highlight was the breakfast. Although the restaurant was busy we were impressed with the range and quality of what was on offer for breakfast. Nice to sit outside and have breakfast by the pool. The hotel is situated in a very pleasant area of La Rochelle that gives you a lovely walk down through the park into the town. Approve of the plentiful free parking. We had a late flight so for 30 euros they gave us a late check out until 4pm which was very useful. Overall a very nice end to our holiday.
Beautiful setting in a park, but surrounded by high rise flats. Reception staff charming. Room lovely. Restaurant a strange curved shape, and was a bit like eating in a corridor. Food ok, but zero atmosphere.
The room was clean and large enough for two. The breakfast was good quality and plentiful. Quiet location but not the easiest to find especially as La Rochelle centre was full of road works and diversions which we though the hotel could have forewarned us about when they telephoned to confirm booking. 10 minute walk through the park into the centre which was very pleasant. Pool great and public areas clean and welcoming. The hotel needs to review the daily replacement of complimentary gels, soaps and shampoos, half used were taken away and replaced which was wasteful.
Beautiful friendly town with lots to do for tourists and locals. Very family orientated..children welcomed and catered for everywhere. The hotel wa soak in that it was friendly staffed and clean. However..the last day of our three day stay, and we weren't late for breakfast, there was no bread left for toast..minimal fruit options and various options not replaced...staff who clean upstairs frequently smoke on the fire escape with the doors to the corridor open which left me thinking people were smoking in their rooms it was that bad...there are literally 8 or 9 sun loungers and unfortunately for us a family with several children took up 4 of the 6 by the pool and one other couple must have got up at the crack of dawn to snaffle the other two beds for the whole three day stay...needless to say given the very limited space round the pool which only has a narrow space round it there was nowhere else to sunbathe or relax. The hotel really should cater for the amount of guest they have and 8 or 9 lounges is not ok for a hotel for tourists...most people end up sat in the quite uncomfortable plastic chairs which as you might imagine get very hot and also are not great for relaxing in..having said all of that it's a shame a few things let this hotel down as it's very near amenities and a lovely park across the road where they have birds and some small animals for children to see...
