Frequent China travellers are familiar with the admonition that while all the hardware in China looks great, the software needed to run it (usually the systems, habits, and people) still require a lot of work. In the last couple of years, the gap between the stunning world class hardware and poor third world software has closed. For major cities like Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing, that gap is no worse than it would be in, say, Chicago or Amsterdam. Unfortunately, third and fourth line cities like Changzhou still have a long way to go. Set out of the old city center, the hotel is beautifully constructed in a new municipal district. Only a few years old, it has the quirks one expects to see in rural China---as people who have never been abroad attempt to channel the needs of their non-Chinese guests. There is the usual Chingrish. The convenience shop is located, for example, in what can only be described as a Christmas elf hut complete with white fencing and a fairy tale cottage door. There are large areas of the hotel that may or may not be open. And the selection of stores is...eclectic. The rooms are roomy and most come with balconies. But the shower doors leak. And the temperature controls in the rooms don't work. They only pump out heat and I had to sleep with the balcony door open. And, as with similar hotels, the furniture is sub-optimal---looking good, but not particularly comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful, if unsophisticated. The coffee is awful even though it comes out of an automated coffee machine. And don't count on anyone speaking fluent english. But it's inexpensive and well located. Give it a few years. They are trying to get better. In a few years, who knows?
A nice hotel, room clean and comfortable, shower hot, burger good, nice staff, good breakfast but the internet was terrible. Not sure if it was because of China but a real bummer. Need for business. Would provide a second try as it has happened often in China and I used to live here. The price was very good. Be careful if wanting a Non Smoking room...In China others look the other way about the smoking and that includes some who smoke in non Smoking rooms.
This 5* Hotel deserves every one of them! Not expensive at all for western standard - 70$ p/n Very clean large rooms with bathtub and separate shower, free WiFi, complimentary Coffee and thee in the room. The bath towels are disappointingly small and washed out. Otherwise the place is great! Nice indoor pool open 7am-10pm great gym open 24h. I will most defiantly go back on my next visit. The car service is very expensive... order from another place.
I was upgraded to a King Suite which was absolutely superb Featured Bedroom, lounge and bathroom, each were as big as a normal hotel room. Bed was extremely comfortable and quality of fittings and cleanliness was superb. With the varied amount of nationalities visiting Changzhou for business it was expected that not all staff could speak English well, but I had no issues communicating. If a staff member could not speak English, or did not understand "Aussie English" they would get someone quickly to help. The breakfast buffet is large, as it has to cover a variety of nationalities who visit. I would visit again.
My parents normally stay at the Holiday Inn but I pushed for staying at the Sheraton because I wanted Starpoints. I found it pretty irritating that the included breakfast rate on SPGs website was so vastly more than the non breakfast rate + 2 a la carte breakfast. Meanwhile the rate at Ctrip was about half as much. I tried price matching with SPG and got really obtuse explanation but was worried that I wasn't going to get points via the OTA. Not really an easy experience dealing with that. In the end just doing the base rate and a la carte breakfast for one of the two nights. Breakfast was good but not special by Chinese standards. There really isn't much in walking distance. Didn't really interact with staff that much. Only at check in and check out, and the interactions were conducted in Chinese. I got the impression that the staff was competent. I was offered a plate of fruit as a welcome amenity for being SPG Gold as well a room on the preferred floor. As far I can tell the dark paneling of this floor is identical to the Club level floor. The lower floors are a lighter wood paneling. Internet was solidly fast. Pool was meh. Also of note, Chinese for Sheraton and Hilton sound quite very similar.
Rooms are clean and spacious. Service especially in the hotels restaurants was horrible! The staff needs to speak better English so they can at least take a drink order! Overall staff etiquette is outdated and rude to say the least. Every time visiting the dining area I was disappointed and even at times totally and blatantly disrespected. I will not be coming back or suggesting this hotel for any further returns to this area. Too bad.
Sheraton as usual, always maintain their level of comfort. My second stay here, but the experience this tine was not as good. Doorman actually refused to help us with our luggages. How weird is that?!! We arrived at 3am from pudong. The doorman refused to help us with our luggages, even though i even asked him to. The front desk service was also too casual. When we approached them to engage their service at the business centre, even their manager didnt really want to help. The restaurant staff is forever talking loudly while preparing food, without masks. It just didnt feel like a five star at all. But the room was very well kept. The comfort level was as expected from a Sheraton. Nothing much around the hotel, you will need to travel out to get food outside hotel.
Rooms are fantastic. Dark quality wood built ins and high ceilings with marble bathrooms and classy tub and shower with special rain head! Food in the buffet is just okay but expectations should be lower for this part of China. However, there is a Japanese restaurant on site and the teppanyaki is great as well as the Sushi which is safe and fresh!! My only complaint is that the wifi Is terrible....slow and lots of blocked sites. I mean SLOW!! I was surprised because they bill themselves as having great wifi. They do have Microsoft TV setup but the technology is at least 6 years old. Don't believe their own ads. The rooms do ROCK though! Service is okay for China but still frustrating. The gym is also okay but small.
Great hotel , extreme competitive prices for the Services . Good staff, the sports bar its Very relaxing great bartender, always smiling. Great buffet restaurant , big variety Of Food , quality also superior. Rooms are Very confortable, Nice space , great shower!!
Stayed 3 nights on business trip. Hotel looks very nice and was most impressed with room, large, nicely decorated, everything worked fine (except maybe wifi, kind of slow). Lobby area looks good, light and open. Breakfast very good, lots of choices and good made by the cup coffee. Polite and friendly service. Kind of strange was the bar, aiming to be a sports bar, but very dark and depressing, usually completely empty. Location is very isolated; nothing in walking distance. Overall very pleasant and comfortable stay
