Philippion Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

We have just got back from our week stay at the Philippion, lovely holiday and Thessaloniki is beautiful, very cosmopolitan and yet historical at the same time. Hotel is definitely not a four star, we don't mind the rustic appeal of a hotel at all, there was free air con and the free shuttle service is very good, especially as it is in the middle of no where, as we thought when we booked so not an issue. The hotel was clean and presentable, can't comment on the food in the hotel apart from the snacks which we had on a couple of occasions, which weren't great. The pool was the biggest complaint, it was closed for 2 and a half days when we arrived (it was the heatwave at the time), it was green, the pumps or filters weren't working but when we complained it was to do with the ph levels!! Can't believe they left sorting this out until height of summer. The "management" were hopeless and not intertested in the guests at all. I was informed that the pool was a facility that was extra! Out of courtesy they sent fruit and a bottle of wine to our room. Didn't want to complain anymore as it was supposed to be holiday and never had to do it before. BE AWARE that the pool (which was miraculously sorted out for the weekend) is open to the general public at a charge so this is where the owners interest lies so much so that there aren't enough beds for paying hotel guests!!! Antonio, the waiter is excellent and the only professional in the hotel, the management should listen to him and use his experience to their advantage, not alot of work ethic and no customer service attitude from the others at all. Would not go back to this hotel at all.
It is early August and peak season. The pool has been closed for a day and a half due to "ph problem". The water looks green and it has had "medicine" put in it, presumably to kill the algae. I am not sure I want to go in it. The hotel itself was probably good in its day, but now tired. Aircon is free and works well. Breakfast buffet is a mixture of continental style and eggs, ok for about 5 quid a day I suppose. It is very isolated and you will need a car. First shuttle bus to town during the week is at 4.30pm, last back is 11.30pm. Takes about 15 minutes, definitely not walkable. Nothing else around to walk to. This is not the first review to mention a problem with the pool, you have been warned.
We stayed in this hotel for 10 days in March 2017. It is a bit outdated and need refurbish, I agree. But there was an amazing view from every room, rooms were clean and taken care of every day, food was brilliant, traditional and quite big choice. Staff was also very nice and helpful. nice outside gardens ideal for having coffee and getting some tan. there is a bus running to city and then back from city couple of times a day; also you can take a taxi for less than 10€ (during the day; at night around 12-13€). wifi was working well, although it was not working in some rooms. i recommend this hotel as it was a good choice; food was nice and we had a great time there
The hotel is situated quite far from the city, on a hill, but you have the hotel shuttle if you need to get there. I had gorgeous view of the sea. The rooms were big and the breakfast very tasty! It could use some refurbishment, though, since it seems stuck in another era, but all in all a good experience. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and pleasant.
Hotel located in a very nice place; surrounding by the trees, looking at the Thessaloniki from a higher place. It's far away from the city center and very quiet. There is hotel's shuttle or you need your own car to reach there. It is an old hotel which needs refurbishment.
We stayed one night in September 2016. The location was very good, nice surrounding and view to the town. Parking for cars available and safeguarded by a policemen. The staff at the reception is very helpful. Rooms are OK. The infrastructure needs some update. Breakfast is fresh and tasty.
We stayed 5 nights in this Hotel in Thessaloniki . The location was superb. Situated in a beautiful forest,so tranquil and peaceful. Beautiful gardens Spotlessly clean swimming pool to cool down in when the temperatures soar! Ideal for the family, after the heat of sightseeing in the city. The food was excellent varied menu. Staff so polite and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Our suite was immaculate with a spectacular view. The hotel shuttle bus was wonderful as we could visit Thesaloniki some evenings without any charge. The staff recommended hiring a car for a daily excursion to Halkidiki which was a lovely idea. We actually invited friends for dinner in the Hotels garden restaurant one evening, as they lived locally and already knew how excellent the food at the hotel was we had a wonderful meal together.a lovely touch was the Hotel provided us with a free transfer to the airport on our departure. We will definitely be returning to the hotel next year. Thank you to all the superb staff who made our stay so enjoyable.
This Hotel was good. It could be Great The Swimming Pool was fabulous, however Shut for 2 Days within our 10ish Day stay. The Hotel is a little dated and that could be massively improved like the size of some of the Toilets, they are meniscule. The internet was also worse than poor unless you went to reception, Another Saviour is the Hotel Shuttle Bus to the Main Town. If there was no Bus I could not see us staying in this remote place again.
In the beginning of this month we stayed for 5 nights in this hotel. The location is amazing. High up at the mountain you have a great view over the area. (we stayed at the third level with a view over the pool and the city) You are out of the business of the city and the temperature is much better there. During the day in the city it was about 38 degree C. but at the hotel is was more like 24 degrees. Really wonderfull. The room was fine. Cleaned every day. We do have however quite a list of comments. The pool was closed the first 3 days of our stay for maintenance. Wifi didn't work most of the time. When lucky we did have connection for a couple of minutes, but most of the day (when we where at the hotel in the evening and early morning) there was no Wifi available in our room or the connection was very weak. The only place the internet connection did work properly was at the reception corner. The breakfast was "not bad" but it was exactly the same all days. No variation at all. Employees at the restaurant did look like "Ok, I'm here because I have too". The overall look of the hotel needs a big update and maintenance to compete at the level of a 4* hotel (the current rating) Currently it is absolutely not at that level at all. During the weekend there was a wedding in the hotel. So you can imagine what this means during the late evening. Lots of music untill late. Did we have a bad time? No. Was it as great as expected from the pictures when we booked? No. Overall conclusion. Average. Not special, but for the price paid. OK. It could however be much better and really a top class hotel after a good update, a higher level of hotel/restaurant management. I wish they will do. In that case we definately will come back.
Stayed at the Phillipion for five days from June 29 to July 3 with two teens. The hotel was clean with a nice breakfast offered and also has a shuttle from the airport that is included in price. Had a great view of the caldera. The staff is very accommodating and hospitable. Five minute walk to town and a beautiful view of caldera on the way. Would highly recommend this hotel.
