Just off the M4. Clearly visible from the motorway. Not much around the location. We walked into Newport about 20 minutes. Not a pretty trek. Plenty of pubs, restaurants, shops etc. Took a cab back, easy to organise and not costly. If new fancy a walk after a motorway drive, the Lyceum pub is a closer alternative, good 'local'.
We stayed here Friday night as visiting Newport had seen good reviews and as on budget and knew ibis were a good chain we decided to stay here. For a start we couldn't have got a better deal unless free £26 for a room that slept 3! as it had a bunk bed above the double bed. The room which was 109, was great for what we needed shower, separate toilet, tv, exactly what u expect for a standard hotel room it was clean comfortable and the shower was one of the best (if not the best) we have experienced in all the hotels we have stayed in . The only problem found with room( just a warning) was banging my head on the bed above The hotel itself was in a great location just off M4 but still was really quiet had little trouble finding entrance to car park bit more signage would be an idea. The staff were all friendly and helpful the hotel did some food and snacks to buy and free tea and coffee in reception tho we didn't use (if you havent used an ibis before, they don't do tea and coffee in rooms tho they do provide a kettle if you require, having stayed in ones in France we have now learned to bring our own. One other advantage of this hotel we found was they accept dogs. Although we didn't bring ours on this occasion we found it very useful to know. We would definitely stay here again, Well done Ibis Newport
My friend and I stayed here for one night as we had a casting registration the same day, it seemed very much like the name of the hotel Ibis Budget. The rooms were average and clean, but we didn't really find the set up all that great, sink in the room, and separate shower which was see through and separate toilet which was a little odd. I could not sleep either for most of the night as there seemed to be some lighting on along the side the walls within the room which I found disturbing, and the beds were not at all comfortable. But on the other hand you get what you pay for! So if you get this hotel room for a cheap price don't expect anything fancy. I prefer the normal Ibis to this one personally. But also good value for money.
Booked this last minute and paid just over £50 which considering the price of other hotels in area is a good deal. This hotel is really designed for the Contractor and is fitted out as such. The rooms are actually quite comfortable and i had a good nights sleep with no noise. The rooms although spartan are functional and very clean, reminded me of my sons room at uni!! Breakfast was OK although tables left uncleared which was unnecessary. It has a little shop which sells snacks which is handy as the hotel is isolated. Would definitely stay again as it was great value.
Booked online on the day I stayed. Wanted somewhere cheap and handy for a night out in Newport with friends. Staff helpful and friendly, room was clean but shower smelled a bit drainy before I used it. Nice and quiet overnight. Was great for what I payed
Hotel Ibis Budget is a great hotel to stay in Mid Winter. Its position right by an M4 interchange Malpas- just before Brynglas Tunnels means no problems joining motorway in cold frosty or snowy weather. The fire station for Newport is with 50 yards too. About a mile down Malpas Rd is Friars Walk shopping centre ( a new shopping area with Debenhams, Marks and Spencers Simply food and many restaurants ) A cinema is included in this centre and The Dolman Theatre where musicals and Plays are performed is in an adjacent shopping centre. The Newport Leisure Centre with swimming pool and wave machine, plus the Riverfront theatre are across the road Banks Building Societies, Boots ,Superdrug Paper card shops Waterstones book shop are situated in Commercial Street within 200 yards of Friar Walk. The beds are comfortable. The staff friendly and there is enough car parking space for everybody
This budget hotel is fantastic. We stayed 23rd to 27th December with our dog . Upon arrival we were offered a ground floor disabled room to make it easier when having to take the dog out. The room is spacious and very clean. The bed is ever so comfy...one of the best ...and we have used many hotels over the years. Our one pettu gripe is the spacious disabled toilet and shower room as water went everywhere. It might be a good idea to think about having a wraparound shower curtain. All the staff were friendly and courteous...None more so than Tomasz who was always smiling. This is at least our 4th time staying here and it never fails to disappoint. We look forward to staying here again soon Please pass on a Happy New Year to everyone.
The room was really big! We had a huge shower, which was obviously for disabled. This did cause quite a bit of spillage! But was cleared up by housekeeping so not a problem. The staff at the reception were really helpful and very friendly, made the visit very pleasant.
I booked in to the Hotel as I was attending a work party in Newport. The location was good access around the rear not great but expectable, the staff were excellent the room was very good not to over the top clean warm and tidy defiantly stay there again.
Pleasantly surprised. Warm, clean, comfortable room. Good sized comfy bed, good sized TV. Shower really good and hot! Only gripe was lack of tea making in room, would rather pay a little more and have a kettle in the room, or at least have a tea/coffee station on each floor. But overall great value, will definitely use an ibis again.
