The oldest hotel that's been in continual use in South Africa: long may it continue. Sizeable rooms and beds, with lovely communal areas and good continental and English breakfast. Personable staff and in an excellent location to explore Stellenbosch with restaurants and cafés in easy reach. On a well lit safe street. Would happily return.
i often spend time in Stellenbosch for work and this time there was a special at Oude Werf, so i say... why not! it is right in the middle of town and you can park your car in their garage and walk everywhere. if you don't feel going out for dinner there is a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and a lovely fireplace. the room has all the comfort you looking for, from coffee to a nice desk to work and a good speed wifi. highly recommended!
A stay at Oude Werf should be on everyones list of things to do when in Stellenbosch. This amazing hotel has so much to offer. From the warm welcome on arrival to the beautiful decor and level of guest comfort that will not disappoint. The successful blend of antique and modern decor is tasteful, elegant and quite unique. Even in winter the communal areas are light and sunny. We stayed for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. We had a room on the third floor in the newer part of the hotel which overlooked the pool area. Our room was bright and tastefully furnished. The bed was extra long and extra wide offering an excellent nights sleep after a busy day sightseeing. A large shower with good water pressure and a plentiful supply of hot water was part of the en suite bathroom that catered for your every need. Towels and bedding are of a high quality. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choices and dishes were replenished regularly so that if you came for a later breakfast you did not get just the leftovers. Coffee and tea were served to you at your table. The restaurant staff were efficient and helpful but not intrusive. We never had to wait for coffee refills or plates to be cleared during our stay. Everywhere we went in the hotel the staff greeted us in a friendly manner. Their attention to detail and concern for guest comfort makes one feel very welcome indeed. I would like to thank the three ladies on reception for the time we were there. They helped us to book other restaurants, find times for church services advised us on places of interest in Stellenbosch and much more. Always greeting us with a smile. Thank you also for arranging the delightful chocolate and champagne left in our room on our 40th wedding anniversary it was unexpected and sincerely appreciated. Thanks also to Jodi the young gentleman who so efficiently parked our car many times throughout our stay. Having had the opportunity to travel both in South Africa and abroad staying both four and five star this is one on the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. It is not just the building itself but the staff. I would not hesitate to recommend Oude Werf to family, friends, South Africans and overseas visitors alike. We would like to return again in the future.
We spent on night here - the hotel is in a great location in the historic area. Part of the hotel is an historic building - the oldest inn in South Africa and part is in a modern extension. There is valet parking which is useful as street parking could be difficult. The reception are is in the historic part of the hotel - and very nice. Our room was in the modern extension and very comfortable. Good wifi. Breakfast was good - nice range of foods and expresso coffee. Staff weer helpful and nice.
We spent one night here and really liked the location in Church Street. There is valet parking in the garage which is useful. Part of the hotel is in an historic building - the oldest inn in South Africa and part is in a modern extension. The reception area is in the historic part and very attractive with some lovely antiques. Our room was in the modern section overlooking Church Street. It was very comfortable and blankets were provided when we asked for them. There was a donna or duvet on the beds. Good wifi. Breakfast was good - nice range of foods and expresso coffee. Cooked dishes available too if you wanted them. Really good helpful staff. Recommended.
I drove from Port Elizabeth to Stellenbosch along the Garden Route What a terrific surprise to find I had been booked in this hotel Would highly recommend it. I still remember my accommodations and in the back of the hotel an outdoor eating area beneath an arbor which served Capetown food. Have a major complaint that Travel Advisor does not allow me to enter date It just offers current and last year
We stayed in stellenbosch for two nights at this great little hotel! The rooms were cute and had great, modern decor. The brick exposure gave the room such a nice modern look. The location was central to the city and easy to Uber to local wineries in the area. Helpful and friendly staff!
Been hesitant to write this as I quite enjoy people not knowing that much about this hidden gem - I use this for business travel and it really ticks all boxes - must say that I would also use it as a tourist to Stellenbosch as it is so centrally situated that it is walking distance to many locations in town. What really appeals to me is the level of service that extends from security to porters to front desk to waiters - its all consistently great - a tip though - get the staff to valet park your car as the parking garage is really tight!!! Have now stayed 3 times and is my choice of hotel in Stellies
Stayed here last week for a business ness trip. Location is great and staff are welcoming and helpful, especially John. Our room was in the original part of the hotel and was lovely and old fashioned. Bathrooms are very modern. Was quite cold when we were there, the weather was unseasonably cold and the hotel felt quite drafty despite the fires. Restaurant is nice, food good though if you were to eat there every night you might get bored. Breakfast selection was good. Would recommend to use Uber instead of the cars called by the hotel if you need as Uber is more efficient.
We stayed for a week & had a lovely poolside room. This is our 2nd visit to this hotel & would visit it again & again. The staff are all delightful, so friendly & helpful. The hotel is smack in the middle of Stellenbosch & they have great valet parking so you can wander round all the sites & restaurants without having to touch the car. We love the buzz not only in the hotel but in Stellenbosch & so convenient for all the wineries in creation.. There is only 1 little problem when they are busy, breakfast can be a bit chaotic but hey if your on holiday what does it matter as the choices are vast.
