The hotel itself is really nice, well appointed rooms, feels modern and luxurious in most parts. We booked conjoined rooms, which worked well with the kids, as it had a lockable hall door. The staff were super friendly, really nice people, especially some of the bar staff. Couldn’t fault the service on our visit. The food was excellent, as was the range of gin. One minor comment is they have no cocktail menu, which was a little frustrating, but the bar staff did their best to accommodate where possible. The food was excellent, we had a great dinner in the restaurant and breakfast was very nice. In terms of atmosphere, it felt aimed at older couples, so at times when the kids were having fun in the pool, it felt like guests were not at all tolerant (a little stuffy). During our stay there was some building work going on, which was quite annoying when you are trying to relax by the pool (no warning or apologies). There was also some noise in the room at night, which sounded like a night club, because it was consistent bass sounds every night. The location is great for being in central Stellenbosch. Overall I’d recommended it, but more for couples than families. Consider the Spier hotel, which has more for kids to do (our friends stayed there).
The room situated next to the reception with noise 24hrs Interior, dark and dull as a morgue with a black curtain behind the bed, Adams family would have adored it. Internet didn´t work at all, a nearby office "eikhof 1-4" showed up in the box. Garage was fully booked and the rental car was supposed to be parked somewhere else in a fenced area, fair enough. Quite surprised when somebody drow the car on Church Street +/- 10 pm (Uber?) Suddenly the car was parked on the street just outside our window. As my wife forgot some medicine in the car, we asked for the keys, heads were shaking, keys were gone, god night....???? Day after we got some complete bewildered explanations from the front man. Reminds us....Know nothing....from another famous hotel. After some arguing we were supposed to get another room, but we rather left the arena, some R 3000 in the drain
My husband and I stopped just one night here when visiting the vineyards. The hotel is clean and beautifully decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were very disappointed to have to move on the next day. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Great interiors, beautiful designed rooms, very nice breakfast, the localization is very comfortable. Just the perfect old hotel with its traditions, in an old builiding with history. Professional staff.
Unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. Expensive for overall standard. Housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired, although the specific complaints were rectified the room still looked unclean. Resting on its laurels. On the positive side there was a Good hairdryer in the room.
The Oude Werf has a few drawbacks, such as deadened, labyrinthine corridors the likes of which you generally only get in a vast Florida hotel, BUT, in terms of service, rooms, beds and foh charm, it more than makes up for it. Beautiful situation, super-helpful staff, solid breakfast and a good family feel, it's a really nice place to be in Stellenbosch.
This is the oldest hotel in Stellenbosh and provides an excellent standard of accommodation and quality. The staff are professional and very well trained, the rooms extremely comfortable and the breakfasts outstanding. The added bonus is the on-site parking provided by the hotel at no extra cost.
We had a lovely two days here. It's a very good hotel. The room was pretty much perfect. Modern, clean and well equipped. On arrival car valet service kicks in and reception is very efficient. There is a nice pool area with sunbeds and poll towels but there could be more of both to be honest. Breakfast was first class in every way with a wide variety of the usual hot and cold food. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant but we heard very good reports of it from fellow guests.
Our second stay at Oude Werf, here for 5 nights in December. Excellent central location so can walk to all the main sights in Stellenbosch and close to lots of restaurants. Importantly, if touring S Africa, you will need to park the car-not easy in Stellenbosch. So the underground car park is a big plus. We had a superior twin, beds which were huge with very good bed linen and duvets which were too hot for us and quickly changed. Rooms are excellent, all facitlities including nespresso machine. Breakfast is excellent but dinners not so good and RIDICULOUS corkage charge of ZAR65 - the only hotel we have ever stayed at in S Africa that charges its residents corkage and in the heart of the winelands. Shame on you. The hotel is under new ownership and management and prices are up by nearly 20% on last year. We didn't notice a 20% increase in service or facilities though.
We stayed for 2 nights while in town for a birthday party. The hotel is in a great location on Church Street a short walk to all the restaurants, bars and coffee shops in this beautiful, vibrant, fun town. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed but mostly overlook the pool. As such they are not very private from other guests relaxing around the pool and terrace area without drawing all the blackout curtains. The bar is very pleasant and the food was well presented and enjoyable. Definatly a good place to base a visit to Stellenbosh.
