We had a large room on the top (15th) floor and it was very quiet, even with a nearby outdoor concert. The usual HI Express amenities, with comfortable beds etc. The breakfast was excellent, varied and the hit items are hot. The entrance can be a bit difficult to se as it is on a pedestrian mall, and a few yards way from where the taxi can stop. It is about a 30 min walk to the Watrfront. If you are looking for a reasonable prices room, then can recommend this one.
This place did not disappoint - the reason why? The staff!!! Desiree Edwards was amazing, I hate elevators and when I checked in there were a few problems with getting to my room by stairs. Desiree was called to assist in one of the staircases and it became apparent that my current room allocation would be a complete pain for me. Nothing was too much and before I knew it she had ran back to reception, changed rooms, keys, etc, and I was sorted. Then there was Primrose, full of enthusiasm and fun, she helped us organise tours that we would not have thought of and her fun disposition is a real asset to this hotel. I feel bad that I don’t know the names of the two guys that parked our car each day but they are a fountain of knowledge, totally there to help you get the best out of a holiday. I cannot fault this place, it is great value and the staff really make the place. Will be back x
checked in and saw my room and checked straight back out. Old dirty beds, overlooking an ugly forecourt. The reception desk was littered with luggage. All the chairs and tables in the restaurant where stacked up, their reason was for cleaning. They should clean overnight. I hated this place i could not spend 10 minutes let alone 5 days. I checked into Radisson Park Inn was cheaper and amazing. Such a great hotel. Avoid the express its worst than a budget hotel. The pictures of the rooms are nothing like the depressing room i was offered. Will never go near this place again.
Excellent location in the centre of Cape Town. My husband requested a high, quiet room and that is what we got with a lovely view of Table Mountain. The room was a good size and clean but with hardly any room to store or hang clothes. I used the window ledge rather than keep clothing in our suitcases. Unfortunately, a new scarf ‘disappeared’ from our room within 24 hours so our clothes went back in locked suitcases for the rest of our stay. The staff on the reception desk were very helpful with giving directions and ordering taxis and such like. There was plenty of sightseeing to do and excellent restaurants in the town and the waterfront. The breakfast was very good with hot and cold food available. Unfortunately, the day we left our transfer driver was early and my husband placed his iPad, with a black cover, on the back settee and left without picking it up. Despite calls to the hotel, and a reward offered, the iPad was not found.
The reception staff were amazing, they went above and beyond what you would expect. The hotel room was exactly what we needed, the location we found really good. Good advice was given willingly and nothing was too much trouble. Very well priced, breakfast was included and was more than enough. Taxis were readily available and cheap
Compared to other Holiday Inn properties even in South Africa, this one disappointed us. Unpleasant smell in hall way, spots on carpet in room, only double beds (no queen or king) and feel like cardboard box filled with rocks, and mildewed shower left an unattractive impression.
We booked into the hotel via an online website at two hours notice. I entered the address into my Satnav but on getting close I was frustrated by roads “ closed for filming”. My Satnav of course kept telling me to turn but the police would not allow me to. I rang the hotel and Nomfu the receptionist guided me to the door. She was very patient when I was getting a bit annoyed by the difficulty of reading the names of the roads, which are not the clearest and easiest to read in Cape Town, especially when at one point I drove the wrong way up a one-way street. She received my heartfelt thanks when I did eventually arrive. The hotel is not the easiest to find by car although it is very pleasant when you eventually find it. Good breakfast, good shower and comfortable room
we stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. it’s a rather basic hotel. double bed is too small for the 3 of us (2 adults and one child). we use it as a base to travel around cape town. breakfast is included and the spread is decent. it would be great if fried eggs are included. the location is great - we could walk around easily. it feels safe. the hotel is on st. george’s mall which is a pedestrian street. you could find stalls, restaurants and shops on the street. avoid sunday as shops are closed.
My wife and I stayed at the HIX for five nights. It is located on a pedestrian mall. Lots of food establishments nearby however many close early and do not open on Sundays. The staff is very helpful especially Nomfu. The breakfast was very good. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The top floor rooms can be noisy when there is high winds. The hotel is very close to the Green Market which is an interesting shopping experience. We would recommend this hotel. It is good value for the money.
