We often stay at this charming guesthouse. The staff are great, the location is excellent and the breakfast is amazing. What I didn’t realize is that breakfast is only free when you book directly through their website, which is really worth it.

Friendly, receptive and efficient staff, charming, clean and nicely decorated room, great views, good location for walking to restaurants and unique shops but simultaneously sufficiently away from the hustle and bustle. Good value for money.

KalkBay is the most awesome part of Cape Town. Chartfield Guesthouse has provided me with spectacular accommodation every time I’ve been there. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurants and food variety of food in KalkBay is amazing. coffee supplied Salt is the best ever

My Spanish client Eva Alonso had the following comment, "Absolutely the best place I stayed in during my 10 visit to Cape Town". My work as Benga Africa concentrates on visitors to the Southern Peninsula, with coastal an mountain walks in the area, so having somewhere like Chartfield as accommodation is ideal for me ( I live in St James) and my clients.

The only place to stay in Kalk Bay. Where to start, from check in to check out we both had such a lovely time here. The staff here at Chartfeild are great. Lisa (manager) is so welcoming and friendly and will chat with everyone. She’s very good at knowledge of where to visit off the beaten track. Always welcomed with a smile. Pablo, John, Serena, Suzette and the rest of the team were always welcoming and happy to help wherever they can. Pablo offered to get up at 3am to make us coffee before our day trip cage Shark Diving. Coffee/Tea/Hot Chocolate was brought to our room every morning at a time you agree the day before. The rooms were just breathtaking. We had to have 2 different rooms over our stay of 10days because it was full. The pool is soooooo lovely. A little gem when you’ve had a long day out and need some relaxing in the sun and a dip in the pool. The walk down to the restaurants and shops are not too challenging. There is an abundance of food, drinks, bars, coffee shops and boutiques. Definitely visit The Brass Bell on a Wednesday (karaoke night), Kalkys fish and chips, Salt for a nice chilled vibe, Olympia Cafe for their famous Linguine Frutti el’s amazing and to finish our trip we went to Cape to Cuba which is just all round fabulous. Tip: book before you go to Cape to Cuba. The walk from Kalk Bay to Muizenberg through St James is about 30 mins, we enjoyed this early morning. If you go to Kalk Bay and not stay at Chartfeild you’ll be missing out!!! Thanks again guys for making us feel at home. Oh and the breakfast is ‘The Bomb’ You can have one dish and then another, it’s all fresh and all served with a smile. We will definitely be back for sure. Lisa and Martin xx

I went to Chartfield as I could not get a booking at our usual accommodation in Kalk Bay and was delightfully surprised and impressed. It had a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and I liked the touches like a basket of knitting in the lounge and hats, towels and umbrellas in another basket to take to the beach. Their staff were very pleasant, efficient and also interesting to talk to as they come from all different parts of the world and they were able to chat to all the overseas clients in their own lingo. Our bedroom had the most wonderful view - an almost 360° view of the mountains and the sea and we were able to hear the waves each night even though the guesthouse is quite a few roads up from the beach. Cappuccino and hot chocolate was delivered to our room in the mornings and the breakfasts were fantastic with great touches like fresh ciabatta and seed bread with various toppings like fruit compote and olive tapenade and an extensive and delicious menu that was not your usual run of the mill breakfast offerings. The juice is indeed fresh fruit put through a juicer which I have never had anywhere else - I am always disappointed when the 'freshly squeezed' juice on the menu turns out to be anything but. The coffee and cappuccinos are from a coffee machine and were fantastic and the staff were happy to get as many juices and coffee as you liked! The breakfast was served outside under umbrellas with beautiful vistas of the sea and harbour. YES, I WOULD DEFINITELY GO THERE AGAIN!

A wonderful gem in Kalk Bay. the staff were so friendly, the room was huge with an almost even bigger bathroom. The views from the balconies were stunning over the sea. Coffee was brought to you room in the morning.. a really really wonderful stay..

was a great stay in Kalk Bay, we had booked self catering, the Crows Nest, which was a dream, view, decor just about everything. John the owner lives right above our apartment. From the selcatering was then nothing, the Chartfield Guesthouse only about 50 meters away from the apartment and a great terrace with a view over Kalk Bay. Lisa has received us a lovely nice and the breakfast was great, starting with freshly squeezed orange juice etc. There are good restaurants in the area, no top class but good. If in the area, then again Chartfields Guesthouse ....

This was a last minute booking on our travels around SA and we were not disappointed. A light spacious cottage with two good sized bedrooms and a good sized bathroom with the added bonus of a washing machine. The location meant that we could walk to local restaurants and the icing on the cake was breakfast at the guesthouse which was sublime.

What a great start to the Chartfield experience. I’d mistakenly booked the wrong type of accommodation and Lisa ( the Manager ) was straightforward in her effort to assure me over the phone that this would be corrected. And so it was, with an unexpected and very appreciated upgrade to a loft room with 180 degree views ( from the balcony ) over the Harbour and beyond that, the Ocean - superb. Pablo on Reception gave us a fantastic welcome. What it is to smile and be upbeat and positive ! All sorted and with that a quick drop off of bags and then out to explore... When we met Lisa, she was as expected - friendly, professional, organised, intelligent...all in an apparently understated manner ! The pool area is well landscaped and uber comfortable. The breakfast great... Definitely a ‘home’ that I will seek out again as a preferred destination of choice ! Nothing at this place appeared to be too much trouble !
