The Crusader Oceanfront Family Resort is our hotel of choice whenever we visit Wildwood. Located in Wildwood Crest, it is a great location. It is a very clean hotel and the manager, Jon, will go out of his way to take care of any reasonable request. All of his staff are pleasant and helpful from housekeeping and maintenance to front desk. Highly recommended!
I asked for a full size refrigerator for the handicapped room. I was told there was one. The refrigerator was small to average. My wife needs to store insulin. We are both diabetic. I carry a large assortment of perishables. The room was one room with no bedroom. The sofa was ripped in spots, and the microwave was old. One small modern television and an old vcr/dvd combo television from the nineties that didn't have a remote or cable inside a giant amoire. No phone in the room. My mom and wife are semi handicapped. No bedroom just one large room with 2 beds and a small kitchenette. The room looks like a party room for a few overnight people sleeping it off. No extra plugs for c-pap machines or electronics. Highly over rated and over priced.
My boyfriend and I go to the Crusader every year because they offer good prices for good service and clean rooms. The room is a little small but it does the job. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. Love the Crusader!
From the moment I walked in I was quite impressed. I had made a reservation earlier in the day, because I was staying at another hotel nearby, that I wasn't satisfied with. Even though my room wasn't ready yet,the lady at the front desk let me change into my bathing suit so I could enjoy the beach. My room was very nice, the air conditioning was among the best I've used,it was clean and well equipped. Not only was my room nicer than the other hotel, it was cheaper too! Their restaurant is quite nice, and the food was very good. I had remembered this hotel because my parents had taken us there in the 60's! The ocean view was great too. All in all a very nice experience, and the staff really is attentive. I would certainly stay there again. Thank you for running a great hotel! -Mike.
Just stayed at The Crusader for a mid week getaway. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean and the pool area was very nice. Check in was smooth with a text when our room was ready. Only regret was that we didn’t have more time to stay longer
We stayed in June, July and August of 2019 on three separate occasions. We requested a 100 level oceanfront room. The one room that we did stay in was across from the pool was a very nice room but too much pool traffic for us. As usual the rooms are very clean(I have yet to find any hotel/motel in the Wildwoods that rivals the Crusader's attention to cleanliness.) Isn't that a major reason for choosing a hotel/motel? For us it is. The Crusader may not be the swankiest in the Wildwoods. Some rooms are more updated than other but that's a minor thing. And they work hard to maintain and update things we don't see. For us the vibe, the cleanliness and stellar staff(smiling, happy and productive) trump any nice and new shiny hotel/motel. We are already looking forward to our next stay in June 2020! Thank you Jon, Kelly and all!
I will caveat my review by saying at much more newer, higher end hotels and have very high standards. I had never stayed over in a hotel in any NJ shore town, as I grew up, and continue to live, within 20 minutes of the beach. However, my wife's family wanted to go to Wildwood for a 3 night mini vacation. From my research and experience, I realized almost all the hotels in Wildwood are old (most dating back to the 50s and 60s). I did a ton of researching before booking all of us rooms at The Crusader. First the negatives...The bathroom is very small with not much storage for toiletries (there is a small/skinny piece of glass above the sink and toilet) and the toilet had to be the smallest toilet I have ever sat on. The decor and furniture was all very dated and cheap looking (think old college freshman dorm). The TVs were on the smaller side (32 inches) though fine. The issue with the TVs was that there weren't a ton of channels and no real kids channels like Disney or Nickelodeon (they had cartoon network, which doesn't really show kids shows). I get that this is a beach resort, but at the beginning of the day and end of the day my kids like to watch TV. Plus we had rainy weather during our stay so it would have been nice to have some more choices on things to watch. Also, the room was VERY dark. There were a couple of small lamps with low wattage light bulbs in the room. More lighting is definitely needed in the rooms. Finally, it was very weird that there was not a single clock in the room (I especially didn't like that when I would wake up in the middle of the night and want to look quickly what time it was). Now, the positives...The resort was VERY clean. That was one of my biggest concerns. I see many of these older beach motels and always assume they are disgusting and that I will need to sleep in a hazmat suit. However, everything was extremely clean, with house keeping doing a great job cleaning the room each day. We stayed in an efficiency and it was great having a full size fridge and freezer. There was also storage for our snacks and utensils, plates, and dish washing soap. The internet worked well (which the kids appreciated since there weren't any kids TV channels), and the AC kept the room (including bedroom) cool. Everyone I spoke with, including the GM were very friendly and helpful (I was looking to see if there were any coupons for any of the bike rental places and the GM went and looked in all the coupon books they had there to try to find one - unfortunately none existed). The location of the hotel is great. It was right next to an entrance to the beach a walking path/bike path that goes to the boardwalk (the start of which was probably about a 1/2 mile away, maybe a little less). It was also very quite at night (I was worried it would be really noisy at night with people walking and driving by, which wasn't the case). Finally, the pool was very large - much larger than the "bathtubs" that other beach towns call pools. Overall I was impressed with the cleanliness of the motel, the friendly staff, and great location. Now if they could only do something about the dated decor and furniture and make a few other minor improvements, it would be a clear 5 star place.
We just stayed at the Crusader for a long weekend for the first time.Have been going to Wildwood for many, many years. We really liked the location to beach & boardwalk.Have to walk few blocks before boardwalk starts, but is fine with us, quieter area. The room & motel itself were very clean. We had a 4W room with a queen bed, Jacuzzi tub & sofa bed, microwave & small fridge. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub very much after walking the boardwalk. Nice large shower in bathroom also. 2tv's in room.Pool & sundeck are very nice.Very nice lobby with billiard room , & elevator is great for getting all your gear to your room. Only issue was our 14 yr.old son(adult size) found sofa bed to be very uncomfortable & just slept on sofa itself as we were only there for 3 nights. The maid took his sheets & didn't give more but front desk was apologetic & quickly gave more.We would also suggest darker curtains in bedroom, even with blinds & curtains shut, it is very light in the bedroom to sleep. Might also suggest some type of shelf in bathroom for toiletries, as the sink is a pedestal sink & no cabinets.Another towel bar or double towel bar or hooks to hang more towels would be nice. It is a very nice updated room, with a very nice view (pool & partial beach view)especially for a couple. We would stay again, especially as it sounds like they are continually updating & improving.
From the moment I arrived the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were spotless, cleaned everyday and stocked. My family enjoyed the closeness to the beach and the view was beautiful. The pool had a kiddie section which was cool for my grandchildren. Also want to mention the delicious breakfast at their coffee shop. Would definitely stay again.
Overall a great place to stay that is walking distance from the boardwalk. From the front fest to the restaurant, all staff members were very friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
