Four Points by Sheraton Sihlcity Zurich

Great hotel in an excellent location for outings as we drive and it’s close to the main motorway network yet only a 7 minute tram ride into the centre of town. Also right next to a large cinema complex, numerous restaurants and a great shopping centre. Nothing beautiful or scenic about this hotel, it’s all about function and location for me! Nice clean and spacious rooms with huge beds. Excellent walk in shower room. Nice size TV. Breakfast service was a bit disappointing as we didn’t choose the buffet option (cost about £26!!) so ordered items off the menu, this seemed to confuse the waiting staff as I think most guests choose the buffet. If you’re planning to use the gym or sauna (amazing!) don’t be fooled, like we were, into thinking it was included in the room price, it’s another £26 per day to use it. I think if you make full use of the sauna facilities and spend half a day in there then maybe worth it. If you just want to use the gym even for 10 minutes it still costs the same amount which I think is too much.

This hotel was selected for us by our travel agent as part of an airline package deal. Rooms are quite spacious and well appointed with helpful and courteous staff. However, it is far from the attractions found if you were staying closer to Zurich's main train station. Trams can be found right around the corner that can whisk you to "Old Towne" for less than 10 CHF each way or take a taxi for around 28 CHF... EACH WAY! There is a large, modern shopping mall just outside the hotel but did you really come all the way to Zurich just to go mall shopping? Next time I'll select accommodations closer to where the action is.

It was a great stay in this hotel. Close to train station (7 minutes by walk) gives a easy way to reach airport if you want to avoid traffic while taking a cab. Even though it is close to a mall you can hardly hear anything. Room was big, clean and I couldn't find anything that was annoying or disturbing. Check in and check out took around 5 minutes in total (no waiting at all). I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is small and adjoining the Sihlcity Mall and one of the theatres hosting the Zurich Film Festival. The best thing is the spotlessly clean hotel and rooms, very efficient decor and ease of use. Although not downtown, it is very accessible as it is very close to the tramlines. There are a few good restaurants and bar but pretty expensive. The staff very professional and excellent. In terms of room and hotel one of the best Four Points.

This hotel is one of the weirder, lower value hotels at which I have stayed. First off, it is in a pretty tatty, reclaimed part of the city--more or less like Canary Wharf is to London or Hudson Yards are to New York. Charmless, distant from the center, little night life around it, generally ugly. The place looks like a bunker from the outside. There are very small windows and not a lot of them, and they are all uniform. It looks more like an old factory than anything built for human habitation. Arriving at the square (which is as close as you can get by car), you need to walk down a wide alley to get to the hotel front door. The entrance is quite unspectacular, and you feel like the hotel must somehow be connected to a mall or maybe an airport--it feels like an appendage of something rather than standing on its own. Check-in was quite quick and efficient. The elevators were large and quick. The hallways are wide enough and pretty clean. My room door was like a bank vault--a characteristic in Switzerland as I have come to learn. Once inside, the frustration mounts quickly, however. It is nearly impossible to find the light switches. It turns out that the only way the lights will turn on is if you take your room card and insert it in a slot near the front door. Now this is quite often seen in Europe, but this slot is so well hidden that you had better bring your flashlight. Then, the "fun" gets worse. The light switches are far from easy to understand. What you see when the lights finally do go on is what a real bunker looks like from the inside (so if you are claustrophobic in the slightest you might want to consider another hotel!). The one window--no kidding, is a little above knee height, is about one foot tall, and about six feet wide. If you want to look out the window, you have to get down on your knees, and there is nearly no way to open the windows easily since the walls are about 2.5 feet thick--you need arms like an ape. That is only the beginning. There are literally no outlets that use normal European connectors (forget a US-style outlet like most hotels in Europe now provide), so you have to hunt around and unplug other things like tv's or mini-refrigerators to plug your computer in. Good news--even the free wi-fi is 7MB upload and 7MB download speeds--not the fastest but at least it works. Now, for the bathroom area. It is an area, not a room. The amenities are the smallest I have seen in a long while--better take a short shower; those with crewcuts will do best with the shampoo that--no kidding--is dispensed from a pump that is attached to the wall. I guess they don't trust their guests with hotel/airline-sized shampoo bottles! The towels are ok, and the bathroom area generally clean. Water pressure and temperature are fine. Checkout is efficient, without a lot of chitchat to slow you down. Getting a taxi is a trick unless you have them call one for you. All in all, for my 300 Swiss Francs, this is no bargain, and has no charm. You can do much better, unless you are so hung up on your Sheraton points that you can't help yourself.

Friends of mine stayed here recently and loved it. I wanted to send cupcakes for a special friend of the family. Aurelia at the hotel was so helpful to me. She arranged with the chef to have cupcakes sent to her with her favorite colors for her birthday! I want to thank her so much and all who helped out. It truly made her day and trip!

One would think that at least a decent fitness room is included in this 250 CHF per night 4 star hotel, well you are wrong!! To get access to the fitness floor it costs you another CHF 30 per day. Come one - seriously??? The hotel itself is ok, clean and what you'd expect, but this extra charging of everything that normally is included sucks and is a solid rio-off!

Booked to stay one night here and thought due to the very high price it would be special - errr no! I booked the hotel as Expedia said it had a gym - it does ...BUT it's another 30 Swiss francs a day!!!!! Very disappointed. Had room service - 33 Swiss francs, thought this should be good? NO - very uninspiring, and almost tasteless burger. Would have to say it's the worst food I've had in a while. Would I stay again? No.

You will end up here if you work in Sihlcity. Always great service in the bar. Perfect for afterwork drinks. Not the cosiest place in the world, but the outside area is quite comfortable. Don't over-do it on the free nibbles - I always do.

Four points is part of sihlcity Nord, 11 minutes by tram 13 or 17 from Zurich main station. The hotel room is modern and tidy. Starting from check in, the front desk agents and front desk manager were great and had a consistent service through my long stay at this SPG proprety. Going to the room, only people having a room key can choose a floor in the lift. The matress is so much comfortable and this is something common for Four Points hotels. Housekeeping was consistently very good. The room has a walk in shower and a separate toilet with glass door. The towels are always clean. Evian half liter glass bottle is provided daily along with a small cake made freshly and written on it" eat me" :). The window does not have open view but that was fine. The room was quiet and very convenient to sleep well. One disadvantage in the room was that if you have a big luggage, it will have no place if you will keep it open. You have to take out all you belongings and put them in the wardrobe. This was an interior design mistake in my opinion. The hotel is part of a big complex having everything you need from food to cinemas to live music on weekends to a mall...etc. price wise, it is fine comparing to other hotels in Zurich. Food in the hotel was good. The laundry service was good too though very expensive and this was common in all hotels in Zurich. One more thing I would like to emphasize is the professionalism of the front desk agents and manager. I would definitely stay in Four Points Sihlcity Nord if I am back to Zurich...
