My first impression when we set foot in the hotel was one of disappointment: The reception was small, the elevator looked like that of a modest apartment building... all in all too simple and sad for my liking! But then from there on, things have gone uphill: The three lady receptionists I've dealt with were all super friendly, welcoming and helpful, and they all spoke 3-4 foreign languages fluently, in addition to their native Italian. For someone who comes from Geneva like me, this was a small miracle. Our family room was fine: The small balcony had a partial view of the mountains; and the beds were comfortable, especially in the main room. The TV had a huge variety of channels, most of them in Italian. Yet the bathroom was a second disappointment: It had no toiletries whatsoever (except for a bar of soap); the bathroom door didn't lock, and as we were staying with toddlers, they just kept coming in and out of the bathroom as they pleased, and when we asked for keys at the reception, they said they didn't have any. The hotel advertised a free minibar, which, in real terms, just meant two free small bottles of water each day, as is the case in most other hotels. The pool looked inviting, but unfortunately as we came out-of-season, it was closed and covered. Breakfasts were good as well, with a decent variety. I missed omelets or any eggs other than hard-boiled ones, but I could live with that. Also, Delfino enjoys a central location: There's a bus stop right at the entrance (number 2) that takes you straight to the city centre and to Lugano's main train station. But on weekends, buses run only once every half-hour, so plan accordingly. The hotel, by the way, also gives you a free bus pass for the duration of your stay.
Nice and quiet hotel with a nice view at the lake with friendly multilingual staff and a nice choice for breakfast within easy walking distance to the centre. Hotels offers a free ticket for the local public transport
Lovely hotel with a pool and plenty of sun beds. A bit of a walk to the front but you can get a bus. Walked down to the lake and booked to go to the Swiss Miniature Village which is a must. The staff were very attentive, They have a BBQ evening outside round the pool. The room was clean and ample room
Super choice for a weeks stay in Lugano, the hotel reception staff were very helpful and friendly, assisting with discount bus tickets, directions etc. Our room decor was a little old fashioned but everything from reception to pool to room to silicone around the shower was absolutely immaculate and clean. Staff were constantly attending and cleaning. The breakfast was a great choice including gluten free options. The pool area was generous, lots of good quality sunbeds. Our beach towels and all linen was of high quality and super clean.
The customer service was incredible, thank you Sarah, Pamela, and Simon and everyone who truly gave the hotel such a warm atmosphere. The location was wonderful, very helpful having a major bus stop directly in front of the hotel! Very convenient being close to Franklin University, as well as within walking distance to the San Salvatore Funicular and the Lugano Boat Tour dock. (Both are a must!) Our room had a million dollar view and slept 4!
The rooms are big, very modern and comfortable. Small but nice balcony. The location is not ideal but still central enough to be acceptable. Prices are rather high but in view of the excellent facilities they are justified.
had a great two nights in hotel Delfino . very good room with a cosy balcony and a great view, it had a very good parking house and the staff was just great ! loved the poolgarden where it was cosy and quiet to relax in sunbath and cooling in the swimming pool with the beautiful view around ! the food at the hotel was very good and nice to eat outside in the poolgarden . was there in july 2016 and will definitely go back to hotel Delfino when i will be there next time . Thanks for me hotel Delfino !
The Hotel Delfino is a good hotel with excellent service. This hotel is a great value. The service was excellent, the food was good, the pool was lovely, and the rooms were clean and neat. The hotel property is maintained well and is in good condition. While the Hotel Delfino is technically in Lugano, for practical purposes it is really in Paradiso. However, the bus stop is right outside the hotel -- you can buy your bus ticket at the machine at the bus stop with cash or credit card. It is a short bus ride to Lugano Centro and the buses run regularly, so the hotel is very convenient to Lugano. You can walk along the waterfront to Lugano in about 20 minutes during the daytime (I would not recommend doing this walk at night). The hotel is very close to the Monte San Salvatore Funicular in Paradiso (the funicular is just down the hill from the hotel, within walking distance). If you want to buy groceries, there is a Migros (supermarket) just down the hill as well. Also, I was able change my money at a good rate in Paradiso at the Ufficio Cambio Prado/Western Union (Via S. Salvatore 2, Paradiso) If you are driving to the hotel, it is right off the main motorway as you enter Paradiso - but make sure that you know where you are going as the hotel is on a one way street. The hotel has a parking garage. [Also, if you are driving, make sure you have cash for the Swiss highway toll if you are driving in from Italy - the toll is rather expensive - The Swiss Motorway Sticker (Vignette) is 40 CHF, or 37 euros - it is good for one year]. The Hotel Delfino is a great value and I very much enjoyed my stay. The staff was helpful and well-informed. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
When we first entered the hotel we were really scared that it will be very bad, since the hotel needs a renovation badly. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the lake and the mountains. The view was beautiful!!! We got a free minibar and Nespresso machine, which we enjoyed very much. The hotel is located 15 minutes walk from the center, its clean, and the service is great. Our overall experience was very good and got a good value for money.
OK, this isn't actually a 5 star hotel but my experience there was 5 star. The staff are warm and welcoming - and storing my luggage both before check-in and after check-out was no issue at all. They were very helpful with directions and recommendations. The rooms are average sized and while the decor is a little tired, they offer great views of the lake, pool, nearby pretty villas or San Salvatore peak. The pool area is one of the reasons I booked this hotel - there's plenty of space to sunbathe around it and it catches the sun all day, until quite late. The buffet breakfast isn't a showstopper but it is perfectly fine and it's lovely to be able to sit in the sun by the pool as you eat it. It's a lovely stroll down to the lake and along the front to Lugano itself. It's 15-20 mins max, but you barely notice it as the walk is so peaceful. There's a few steps to negotiate on the way back but nothing the average person can't handle. At this end of town there is also a ferry boat terminal, and you're only 5 mins walk to San Salvatore funicular. It's well worth the fairly expensive ride up and then the walk to Carona and on down to Morcote. We took a picnic then caught a bus back that dropped us near the funicular again. There is a ferry that leaves from Morcote, and returning via the lake would have been special but we didn't want to rush the walk to catch it. Gorgeous views all round. Another highlight was the funicular up Monte Bre - we walked up to the summit, which was hard going in the 35 degree July heat but worth it for the outstanding views over Switzerland and Italy. Great little hotel for a fabulous stay in a very pretty location!
