We arrived for one night in Isla Mujeres. We found the hotel through booking and our travel agency did not even know the hotel but said its location was excellent and we relied on it. The hotel is really in an excellent location, clean and tidy and the rooms look exactly like in the pictures. A minute's walk from the Chabad House, all the shops and a two minute walk from the ferry. I will certainly recommend it to people who are not looking for a luxury hotel but still want to sleep comfortably.

It has an excellent location on the main street of Isla Mujeres and two minutes from the ferry. There is hot water, a hairdryer and a total of clean and very nice rooms. Breakfast was reasonable, there was not much selection. Bread, jam and peanut butter, fruit, cereals and coffee. For the safe you have to deposit 500 pesos at the reception and at the end of the stay you get the money back.

A budget hotel in the middle of "the town". Pretty small rooms, outdated and old fashioned, clean though. The breakfast included is VERY basic, do not expect eggs. Next stay in Isla Mujeres we will defenitely stay closer to the beach.

The room as described, clean and nice. The location as described as well, which means hat it is very close to the beach and all the attractions but is on the main street, so it is normal that is noisy especially at night. Jesus from the staff speaks English and the staff is simpatic.

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days at the end of March. My adult daughter also stayed in a separate room with her friend. I love that it was in the middle of everything. You can walk to everything on the North side of the island. Everyone at Hotel Bucaneros is very friendly. The rooms are small but very clean. We originally had room #102 directly above the entrance. The only problem we had was they were doing construction directly across the street from our room. The hammering early in the morning woke me. We are night people so, coming in late and being woken up to hammers didn't work for me. I ask to be moved to a different room half way through our visit. They were more than happy to move us without a problem to a room in the back of the hotel, room #204. It was a slightly bigger room. I was able to sleep much better after that. Bucaneros was exactly what I was expecting and I’m happy for that. I plan on going back many, many times. I will say, if you are a smoker, you can not smoke anywhere in the hotel. Not on the balcony's, not anywhere on the property. You can smoke everywhere else. In all the bars, in all the restaurants, in the jewelry stores, in all the shops. I love Isla Mujeres! The beach is beautiful! The sand feels like baby powder between your toes. It is slightly annoying that all the little shop owners constantly bug you to shop in their stores. We eventually got used to it. Just keep walking. Don't stop unless you are interested in looking in the shops. Once you stop, they got you. They all like to say everything is "almost free, cheaper then Wal-Mart." LOL!! We ate at a lot of the restaurants. All were pretty good and reasonable priced. My husband is very picky so if you’re looking for burgers, "real" burgers, try Nash's. They are about 20 steps from the hotel, on the opposite side of the street. They have many different burgers and all the staff seems to be American. Everyone is very friendly. When you do eat at the restaurants and you get your bill, they are all stamped saying tip IS NOT included. This is NOT true. If you take the time to calculate all the charges, you will see some places DO include the tip. Everything is in pesos and the exchange rate changes per day, per store, restaurant. We found it easier to pay the checks in pesos and tip in US dollars. This way we knew we weren’t short tipping. There is a bank (*Elektra, Banco Azteca) within walking distance from the hotel where you can exchange US cash for pesos. They are open every day until 9pm. Just be prepared to stand in line and make sure you take your passport. The bank looks like a rent to own store here in the states. They have scooters, washers, dryers, appliances, cell phones all in the bank. We visited there often. They also have a pharmacy/grocery store at the end of Hidalgo Street near the municipal building. There is an ATM in the store. The machine dispenses only pesos. Isla Mujeres is a small beautiful island that I look forward to visiting for many years.

For the price, Hotel Bucaneros is fantastic as a budget/no-frills accommodation. It is located very centrally on Isla Mujeres - close to many restaurants and Playa Norte on the Northern end of the island. It is a very quick walk to the hotel from the ferry stop. I spent three nights as a solo female traveler and had no issues with the accommodation. When I arrived late afternoon on the first day, my room on the third floor was ready. As others have mentioned there is no elevator, so you must walk up the very narrow staircase to get to your room (the lobby is the ground floor). I had a double bed and a single bed in my room and it was very clean. Be forewarned that there are signs in the restroom asking that you place all soiled toilet tissue in a bucket due to the plumbing. (I did not adhere to this, I'm sorry!). You can place a deposit on a beach towel and switch it out each day, as well as rent the safe in your room. I had no problem with this procedure and just hold on to your handwritten receipt for the last day to receive back your deposit. Breakfast was included each day and it was completely satisfactory. Breads, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit and coffee/tea included. There is a 7/11 style convenience store close by the hotel if you want to get coffee/snacks/water to bring to the beach. There are also water dispensers on each floor for you to fill up your empty bottles. All of the employees were incredibly kind, and I was able to store my luggage on the last day. Additionally, there is a bathroom with a shower near the lobby that I was able to use before my flight back to the US (late evening, so I had checked out of my room but spent the day at the beach). I would recommend Hotel Bucaneros without reservation for anyone traveling on a budget to Isla Mujeres. The only caveat is that if you happen to be there during Carnival (as I was) know that it will be very, very, very loud outside until very late. Bring ear plugs if you are not planning on joining in the revelry! As an aside - I would highly encourage bringing pesos with you on island as I didn't really see anywhere to change money and it's just so much easier to pay for everything in pesos.

The room we received was not what was advertised. We were expecting a room with a king size bed yet got a small room with a double wedged between a pillar and a wall. It was very difficult to get out. We had a room on the third floor (North American 3rd floor) in a hotel without elevators. We are an older couple and there was no assistance to help with bags. The staircase was narrow and difficult to move bags up and down. The complimentary breakfast consisted of fresh fruits, juices, toast and coffee, adequate to start the day. The location was on the main mall area close to great restaurants and a rich nightlife. The internet quality was very poor and it was difficult to get a dependent signal.

What can I say? Hotel Bucaneros was clean, the hotel staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. What really made this a great place to stay was the location. Most everything was an easy walk and other amenities were a short, inexpensive taxi ride away. Note that there is no pool at the hotel but for us it wasn't a problem. So much fun...

This was my second time staying at Hotel Bucaneros. The first time I stayed alone, but this year I stayed with 2 friends. The room was perfect by Mexico standards. It is nice to have the continental breakfast option. Staff are always friendly, the room is always clean upon arrival and maintained each day while we are out. Staff do their best to note who is coming and going so they don't have to bother you while you are in to clean your room. They are very good at going unnoticed while doing this. I've read some people have problems with noise on Hidalgo, but I never have in Hotel Bucaneros. This year we even had a balcony overlooking Hidalgo and I still had no problems with noise. All we had to do was close the balcony doors, shut the curtains, turn on the ceiling fans and air conditioning and I couldn't hear anything. I also like that the hotel is very secure. I have never worried about having things stolen or having anyone break into our room. It just would never happen at Bucaneros. Jesus Atzel has always been easy to work with via email to set up and pay ahead of the trip. I really like that I have paid in full before I arrive on the island. It just takes the worry out of everything. Hotel Bucaneros is very competitive rate-wise. You simply cannot have a better affordable experience than Hotel Bucaneros. Always..great..experience!!!

Just stayed a week on Isla at this hotel. Positives - breakfast included with fresh fruit daily, in room refrigerator, very clean, right in the center of Hidalgo street (night life and shops), steps from various beaches and walks and local places. Nice that they have drinking water available on each floor. They have free to lend beach chairs, safe key, beach towels - you just leave a deposit. The AC worked wonderfully. Negatives - not many.. breakfast became a little monotonous on day 6 but of course it was free so not really a negative... wifi was on all floors but in our room was spotty. Review. This is a nice hotel in the center of the action on Isla. A few minutes to North Beach, a few minutes to center beach and the ferry. Fewer steps still to the sea wall walk (to see sunrises, etc. on the ocean side of the island) Many local bars have live free music on Hidalgo street. Found GREAT local cheaper food all around this hotel. Near the city square - they had events there too. Local to a supermarket and OXXO for cheaper non tourist shop needs. We had a wonderful stay. The internet was on all floors but I think it has trouble getting through the concrete walls of the hotel. There are rooms that overlook Hidalgo - we had one in the back - much quieter. Wifi in room was hard to get so my 16 y.o.. spent a lot of time on the beautiful covered patio on the 2nd floor - better out than in I say. Hotel is classical older hotel, well maintained. Just realizing its not your "American high end hotel" - in other words it has character. There is no need for a golf cart at this hotel unless you are headed to the south end of the island (which we did for a couple of days). Overall a wonderful time.
