This hotel is in a brilliant location to everything. The staff were lovely and helpful especially taking our suitcases up and down the stairs. Our rooms were cleaned every day and was equipped with a fridge and air con. However the room was a lot smaller than the pictures and it was a tight squeeze for me and my partner (and we are both about 5 foot so pretty small ourselves). Other than that it was a great stay.
The best thing about this hotel is its great location right in the centre of town with easy access to lots of bars and restaurants, and a short walk from the ferry and playas norte and central. Inevitably, there is some noise. We were there at carnival, so it went on until the early hours, but normally it should be quieter by about 11pm. Our room was a huge disappointment, not what we had expected or as in the photos. It was small, with a noisy fan, but very good air con. The bed was squeezed between the wall and a large pillar, necessitating some acrobatics for getting in and out of bed. The fridge was not working, but that was fixed, and Wifi was quite poor. At least there was a wardrobe for hanging some of our clothes. The bathroom was quite small - more acrobatics, but towels and basic toiletries were replaced regularly. And everything was kept nice and clean. Breakfast was quite basic, juice, tea or coffee, toast, some cakes, and a freshly prepared fruit plate, the saving grace of this meal. The breakfast ladies were very nice once they got to know you. Reception staff varied from very nice and helpful to disinterested. This hotel needs updating, certainly the room we were in. If you want a comfortable stay you have to go for their suites which, I think, are not only larger but also furnished better.
Clean, quaint room. Had the family room with the loft and my daughter was very happy. Bed was the most comfortable, even better than ours at home. Breakfast was light and appetizing and the fruit and goodies always fresh. Eventhough we faced Hidalgo we heard next to nothing for noise from the street at any given time. Front staff were always very pleasant and there if u needed them. This nice little boutique hotel is definitely more than meets the eye. We will return!
Just Wow. Within minutes of our arrival we were showered with helpfulness of all sorts and felt right at an old friend's home. The reception staff is just wonderful. The rooms are very homely, cozy and clean. The air conditioner worked very well and we had plenty of room. Breakfast was very limited, but ok. The room has a view to the island's main street which could be an issue if you're a heavy sleeper but the vibe of the island is very joyful so we didn't mind it very much.
I stayed at the Bucanero on 3-1-19. The check in staffer told me I needed to pay for my rooms again after pre-paying when I booked through the hotels website. I brought my receipt with should have been simple. Took around 10 minutes with multiple questions from the clerk. No apology after finally agreeing that the rooms were already paid for. What bothered me was this appeared to an intentional attempt to get me to pay twice. Ok place for the price but lousy front desk experience will not be staying there again
Small, family run hotel in the heart of Isla Mujeres. You can’t beat this location - it’s right on the main shopping street in town and a 5 minute walk to Playa Norte. Our room also had a balcony above that street - a bonus if you want to sit out and enjoy the atmosphere with a drink or cup of coffee. There are several excellent restaurants within 1000 feet. The restaurant in the hotel itself is quite good - I had a delicious fish filet dinner and the total came to less than $9 US. The rooms are small but very clean with fans and good working AC. Because this is a busy area you may hear some street noise, however with our fan and AC up it wasn’t a concern. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Each morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast (delicious fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, coffee, tea). You can checkout towels from the front desk to use at the beach. There is a deposit for this as well as if you want to use the safe in the room. I would highly recommend if you’re someone who wants to be close to everything in a clean and comfortable hotel.
I booked my room through Booking.com where prices for Hotel Bucaneros were very competitive for September. It was a great value. The front desk had all the information when I arrived and check in went smoothly. Our room was on the second floor looking over Av. Hildalgo. The room and bathroom were clean. Air conditioning which you MUST have in September on the island worked great. Noise was not an issue with the a/c running. WiFi worked well. The breakfast was sufficient to see you through until lunch. Offered at breakfast was cereal, bread and pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit and coffee or tea. The staff was polite and helpful, which has been my experience in so many of the hotels that I have visited in Mexico. I will definitely return!
Ider is so nice he was actually helping us find other hotel nearby since Bucameros didn’t have any available rooms. I highly recommend! Great people means everything today!! In a crowded place like Mexico where everything can happen and after a long day it was just fenomenal for us to receive this kind service Thanks so much !!
We booked Hotel Bucaneros on Booking.com because of the super low price on rooms at the time. I was a little worried about how low, but figured "what the heck" and went for it. We were NOT disappointed. The staff were polite and kind, and it's so central to everything, you're right in the middle of the market. Breakfast was good upstairs, and you can walk out onto the balcony to just take in the hustle and bustle of the morning setup! There is access to the rooftop, and there's awesome photo ops up there - water on three sides of you makes for a great panorama. There's a lounge area on the 2nd floor by the breakfast restaurant that is awesome for relaxing and unwinding. Oh! And the A/C? Super cold. Just keep in mind when visiting that you cannot flush TP down the toilet here, as with most places on the island. :)
Stayed at Bucaneros for the second time and the room we got (#105) was better than I remembered from staying at the hotel a couple of years ago. This is by no means a fancy boutique style place nor is it bottom of the range budget hotel but it was great value for money, comfortable and with good friendly service which was perfect for our overnight stay on Isla Mujeres. The hotel building is dated, corridors a little cramped and yes it is stairs only to get to the rooms. Water cooler and wi-fi instructions at reception. Breakfast area with terrace to the rear upstairs. The location was excellent and we were not bothered by noise - most things were closed by midnight (Saturday) although we were not facing the main street. Air-con functioned wonderfully, spacious shower with hot water and refrigerator in our room but lacked a hair towel (2 x bath towels, 2 x facecloths and one hand towel given for two girls). Only a slight annoyance, not enough to bother contacting reception about but given management read these reviews it's a small detail to improve for the future. Breakfast was included for us and sufficient for my tastes. Self service pastries, cereal, coffee, juice and toast. Ample and tasty fresh fruit plate with yoghurt was served at our table along with butter, jams and creme cheese condiments. Space to eat outdoors or inside with air-con, as you prefer. I really enjoyed it! For me, I will return to Bucaneros because of its location, value for money and staff. I also like that their reception is manned later at night which isn't always the case on the island.
