I had a trip to Cancun planned for about six months, and it was going to be a special one, as it would have been my girlfriend's first time traveling by air. We chose this location to ensure the flight wasn’t too long, making it a great introduction to air travel. Unfortunately, we discovered at the airport that her passport had expired, and we couldn’t take the trip.
I completely understand that it was too late for a cancellation or refund according to VRBO’s policies, and I wasn’t expecting one. However, I reached out to the host to explain the situation and to inform them that we wouldn’t be staying at the property. I hoped for a response, maybe even some sort of goodwill gesture considering we had planned to stay for 10 days. Sadly, I didn’t receive any reply at all, not even a quick note acknowledging my message.
While I understand that terms are terms, it would have been nice to experience a bit of understanding or humanity in this situation. A simple reply would have made all the difference, and perhaps even a small percentage back would have left me with something positive to say about the host. Unfortunately, the lack of response left me disappointed.
