Wear warm clothing if you visit in winter because only the rooms are warm. The breakfast/dining area is very cold. Quite good location within walking distance of restaurants and short taxi drive to the War Memorial.
The hotel has definitely seen better days but the atrium that serves as dining room and place to hang out has been transformed into a tropical garden. Room furniture in the room is dated and shows a lot of wear and tear. However, the room was clean, the linen are white and crisp and the towels white and fluffy. The bathroom had a great shower in a bathtub. I was not tempted to use the tub. Breakfast was an extra $20 but is was worthwhile with a good variety of choices. Service was very friendly and efficient. Location: It's only a short drive into town and even for those without car, the bus station is conveniently close. About 500m from the hotel in the Dixon district is Chinatown with many Asian restaurants.
Being one of the cheapest twin rooms I could find at the time, I was hardly expecting anything amazing. But Pavilion delivered both on price and setting! Room was spacious and comfortable, spotless, and front desk service was very helpful - it was hard to pick just one counter! Then of course theres the central atrium, which gives the whole thing a beautiful vibrant atmosphere. I wish we had stayed longer as I'm sure eating amongst the greenery and natural light would be a relaxing experience.
Room was fine with plenty of space. Free parking is included (many of the Canberra hotels charge for overnight parking). Internet is free and fine except when the hotel is full and then it can run rather slow. Breakfast is an additional $20 but very filling. The atrium area is a delight and a pleasant place to sit for a quiet drink or using your laptop. The reception staff all extremely efficient and friendly. Free newspapers and apples on the front desk! Hotel can even arrange free transport to the airport during the week. Only frustration was the card reader to enter the car park which frequently wouldn't work properly. Hotel is located very close to a bus stop on Northbourne Avenue which is on the route of several buses which head to Civic and most of the tourist sites around the Parliamentary Triangle. 10 mins walk to the Dickson shopping centre. Have stayed here 4 times for business and holiday and will be back again.
The Pavillion is always a great place to stay when you want to get together with others in Canberra. very central on Northbourne. Lots of parking for guests and visitors. The hotel's huge palm covered central atrium is a comfortable quiet inviting place to have coffee or drinks. The restaurant is very good as is the morning buffet breakfast. Rooms are comfortable, a one bedroom may be best for an extended stay.
Friendly efficient staff, the rooms are comfortable even if the bed was a little too firm for me , but clean and essentials all there. We had some meals in the Atrium and they were generous and reasonably priced. good selection of kids meals and the Breakfast spread was great. We came as a family of eight as a reunion weekend and all said the Pavilion was central to all Canberra attractions and we would stay there again.
A new city for me, an urgent trip, Parvilion was recommended by a business colleague, An overnight business stay. Fantastic helpful staff, one of the young ladies in the Atrium restaurant helped me with my emails on my new mobile phone. She also helped me choose a fine South Australian Barossa red for my main meal. Dessert was so yummy. A never ending pot of tea and refreshed ready for my after-hours paperwork. I will always cherish that night! Breakfast was luxurious and very user friendly. Quickly off to business...
A little dated but quite clean and comfortable. Magnetic room keys had to be taken back 4 times - and each time, I was told that I must have put it near an RF field and demagnetised them. Definitely not so! Slept poorly - a low frequency vibration is quite audible all night. I suggested that it might be plant and equipment, but was again told I was mistaken...as the air-conditioning equipment was not above this part of the hotel. It seems that it's easier to tell the customer he's wrong or made a mistake than to investigate the problem. Finally, the internet service is appalling. I ran a speed test on it and it never returned better than 0.03 Mbps. I suspect it's a central service shared across all occupants of the hotel.
Spent two nights here while visiting Canberra. The room was a reasonable size. The bathroom was very small although the sink was in an ante area with the small fridge. There was plenty of hot water in the shower. The room was comfortable and warm. We had trouble with the television not working and someone from reception came up immediately to assist. Unfortunately the same thing happened again the next night. Check in was fine and there is a gated parking area. We didn't try the bar or restaurant but these areas looked quite nice as we walked through.
This is a good mid-range hotel. It's not 5 star and hoity toity and at the good price I got you wouldn't expect it. As many have mentioned it does have a lovely large very leafy and green open atrium which is very pleasant. I notice some people gave said the bathrooms were too small. I was in a deluxe room which is the bottom of the range room and i thought they were fine. They are compact, but I didn't feel at all like they were too small. The shower was awesome! Fantastic strong water pressure and the water was really nice and hot. So many hotels have really weak water pressure and I love my nice long showers so this is a real boon for me. It's one of the things I select a hotel room on. The room was fine and the bed mega comfortable and i could have slept much longer if i didn't have early starts. One downside is they have doonas rather than blankets and I do prefer blankets to tegulate heat. The rooms were a bit on the warm side and adjusting the in-room temperature controller seemed to do nothing. Luckily the windows open so I just opened the window as wide as it would go which was about a 2 foot gap and let the lovely Canberra 3°C cold come into the room. Surprisinly enough I left the window open all night whilst I slept and it seemed to work fine. I was also on the side facing the road but it was very quiet and I loved the blackout curtains so it was nice and dark in the room. They have free internet with a 1GB allowance each day and they gave me the passcode on a piece of paper when i checked in but you have to ring down to get a new passcode each day. It's also a little confusing when you sign on as the webpage you have to use says $20 for 1 GB and you worry that $20 is being added to your bill but I rang the front desk and they said no, its just $20 worth of value. It would be better if they told you not to worry about that message and that you need to call down each day for a new passcode on that initial sheet of paper which had the passcode on it. Another great boon was they have FREE parking behind the hotel and lots of it which was great. The entrance to it is just off to the right of the hotel and you just press the buzzer and they let you in. Its easy and they don't waste your time asking your name or what room number you are in - they just buzz you in. The staff were very helpful. I would stay here again.
