First room smelt like smoke. Subsequently moved me with no questions which was great. Next room was clean comfortable. Good central location. Easy walk to stacks of restaurants. Parking was pricy at $20 per day. Mini bar lacked quantity. Room heating was great at Canberra is freezing.

Hotel staff were nice however that's the only positive thing I can say about The Novotel Canberra. Rooms where very poorly maintained. Stains covered the carpet and marks smeared the white walls. It really made you feel like you were staying in a below budget room... Over priced for what you get. We were woken up at 3.55am by a fire alarm and countless repetitive updating announcements lasting around 35 minutes... We either evacuate or go back to sleep? No need to advise that; they are unsure of the cause, that the fire brigade are on their way, that they are now speaking to the fire brigade, that there is no real danger at present, and then another 4 announcements to advise that it was a false alarm... Each being repeated twice... We understand the need for safety, procedures and protocols however this was beyond ridiculous. Not the way I'd hope they'd carry out an evacuation if there really ended up being an emergency. I will not be returning.

After arriving at alternative accommodation and being highly disappointed i instead booked in last minute to Novotel. In the end it worked out for the best. Whilst we normally like to have an apartment we enjoyed a lovely stay with our kids in the modern, clean hotel room. Buffet Breakfast was included in our deal to the kids delight and we made the most of it. Room service was also good and fast. Our kids loved the indoor pool and spa. Great location close to shops and restaurants and nice walk to the lake and across the bridge to Questacon etc. Very happy with our stay. Will definitely stay again.

The hotel was centrally located and as I was only here for one night I did not use the pool or restaurant and due to an early flight did not have breakfast so can only comment on the room itself which was lovely and roomy and had all I needed very comfortable. All staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. The hotel was in good order and the room clean with plenty of storage. The bathroom was also large and very well equipped.

The room layout was ridiculous! Half of the bathroom was in the kitchen. It definitely wasn't 4.7 star accommodation. It was overpriced and a big rip off. We paid $240 for one night.There were no electric blankets. The lifts constantly took you to the wrong floor. The pool was overcrowded. The parking was valet but the valet ticket clearly stated 'park at own risk' and my car was taken to some secondary parking location.The fire alarm went off at 4:00am, followed by 10 more announcements... "ATTENTION PLEASE ATTENTION PLEASE!" I lost 2 hours of sleep and left the hotel feeling much worse than when i arrived. Would NEVER go back. Wish we booked somewhere else.

Service is average. Staff seem to have other things on their minds - not customers. I asked for a bathtub room and the staffmember said that would cost extra. When I got to my room although I said don't worry about it at the counter - my room had a bathtub. Staff are not communicating clearly to customers and not satisfying their needs if there are empty rooms which have bathtubs for example - why wouldn't you put a guest in a room with a bathtub if one is available and they ask for it? I heard one staffmember ask a guest if they want to upgrade for $10 extra per night - the guest said no. Really if you want to display excellent customer service just say to guests - " we value you choosing us - we can upgrade you at no charge". This will then create free word of mouth advertising and get more people choosing the hotel. There was a functioning kettle but no green tea. Taps in the bathroom not working properly. No sink stopper. Lock on door not working. Breakfast is not free. No Bible in room. Free wifi but make sure you ask how to access it as there is a free service and one where they ask you to pay. Overall very expensive. Check nearby hotels which could be cheaper ( and better). I did not stay a second night at this hotel. I would like this hotel to value guests more - we are not numbers.

Great central hotel within 10 minute drive of all the main attractions. Valet parking in the basement, pool, gym and bar restaurant all on site. The pool was a little cold but the kids had a ball. Bar snacks were good value. Recommended - Would visit again.

Extremely disappointed in the Novotel Canberra. The bathroom was so small that the hand basin was located outside the bathroom in the hallway leading to the extremely crowded and small bedroom. The breakfast was cold with no cutlery on the table (had to get cutlery from another table for ourselves). The restaurant was being renovated or upgraded so there was no access to it. This information should have been made available prior to any bookings being made. The alternative arrangements were made on another level for meals. Bookings were made for 4 nights accommodation for two people. I will never return to this hotel with its tiny rooms, worn carpets, and the bar fridge that had not been attended to with half drunk cans and missing alcohol from a previous customer. Embarrassing for our Nations Capital to have such poor facilities.

A very pleasant experience. Attentive and friendly service. It was quite crowded (being school holidays) yet, our order of customised eggs were delivered in a few minutes and very very well prepared. Another popular item in the varied menu included a juicer with fresh fruit and chunks of ginger placed alongside for patrons to operate as per their choice. All the other items were well prepared and tasty including quality yoghurt. This brekkie is value for money at all levels. Will definitely visit again shortly.

Extremely disappointed with this Novotel. Not worth the money. You're paying for location which is great in the heart of the CBD rather than the quality of stay. This hotel is by far not a 4.5 star as advertised. 3 star at best. The car park is small & tight with limited spaces. Was wary of leaving my car and coming back to some damage. Upon checking in we were told car parking is $20 per night. I'm sorry but I've stayed in other hotels in Canberra where the parking is free. Had no real option but to accept as this hotel is right in the city & all street parking is paid meters. The lifts are very small and a tight squeeze. The carpet on the 7th floor is in need of replacing as holes are covered up by black tape. We were given a room over looking roadworks & could hear the noise of construction. We asked to be moved and were told if we wanted a quiet room then we should have mentioned this in the special comments box when booking online! Passing the blame back to the customer! The rooms are very outdated and the mattress is made of form, not comfy. Breakfast is a buffet style & was a complete nightmare. It was chaos. So under staffed that bowls and plates were't being replenished. So disorganised. Asked a member of staff for poached eggs and was told I'd have to wait 20mins! Eggs later came out over cooked! Ended up going elsewhere even though we had paid for breakfast in advance when we booked. Upon checking out there is also a surcharge if you pay your extras via debit or credit card... ie car park!! The hotel is a Joke claiming their a 4.5 star.
