We stayed twice--once when we arrived in Calgary as a jumping off point for the National Parks in Alberta and British Columbia Wouldn't have stayed the second time but we had prepaid and would have taken a beating by cancelling, plus the staff took steps to resolve on our second visit some of the problems we had on the first visit. The first night was an absolute disaster. They put us in a second floor room that was on one of Calgary's busiest streets, and we barely slept a wink that night due to the noise. There was no one to complain to or to ask to be moved since the office closes at 10 pm and we arrived after that. The second stay was at the conclusion of our trip and was better, but still not great. They had booked us into a better room, further from the busy street, so noise was not a problem. The biggest issue was the "view" (and this would be true of all their rooms except for the ones that face the busy street). Our "view" was one of parking lots and nasty-looking apartment buildings--not a tree or blade of grass to be seen. On the other hand, the rooms are nicely appointed, and if one wants to be within walking distance of several shops and good restaurants, it's fine. It's really built for longer-term stays. Comes with a full kitchen (with all the essential cooking utensils, etc.), as well as a washer/dryer, decent size refrigerator, stove, etc. But a tiny bathroom and not much of a seating area. No place to use as a work surface (e.g., laptop setup) except for the kitchen island. They are doing some renovations, so maybe my final compaint will be corrected: the carpeting in the hallways was filthy! Not a problem in the rooms since they have painted concrete floors, but the impression we had was if the carptets were so dirty, how clean could the rest of the place really be?
I like the room my wife did not because It is very modern. it was noisy, but we got free phone calls to the US and use of the internet.
If you are an urban traveler who wants the experience of staying in a downtown loft environment, this is the hotel for you. The room is fabulous for entertaining friends with it's balcony and kitchen/bar. If however you are a business traveler, this is not my choice of hotel. First, there is no elevator. You must carry your luggage up a few steps to be buzzed into the hotel. Then you must carry you luggage up another 8 or steps to the check-in room. And then, you have to carry your luggage up another flight of steps if you happen to be on the 3rd floor. The room is not carpeted, so bring a pair of slippers. The bathroom is small, although equipped with a cool shower. There is no vanity space. Only shampoo, conditioner and a bar of soap are provided. The entrance door is accessible via a keypad, along with a code to get into the hotel. There is not a latch on the door. As a single female traveler, this did not make me happy. There is no desk. If you work in your room, you will do it at a bar in the kitchen area, sitting on a backless bar stool. The room is quite noisy, especially if you happen to have a room at the entrance to the staircase or below the outside smoking area. Once again, as a female traveler I did not feel 100% safe in my room. There are no options for food on the premise. I did find a delightful Italian restaurant two blocks away. The staff did not have many dining recommendations. There is a Starbucks on the same block. I travel to Calgary monthly and I will not stay at this hotel.
