This hotel has surely a really nice entrance and also the rooms are lovely - I'm assuming it's being refurbished. Breakfast was simple yet nice. The employees were nice to us, however, nothing special. On the other hand, piping was on the corridor floor, fitted carpets in the corridor are coming off and if not taken care of one could easily get hurt, wiring from the corridor ceiling also showing off - I'm assuming it's being refurbished however safety measures should still be kept. The hotel did not take notice of our time of arrival so the taxi was booked incorrectly and sent twice for which we ended up paying for the mistake.
The hotel reception is upgraded so it looks nice the room i stayed in wasn't it had the smell of closed old space not well ventilated the carpet at the corridor was awfully smelly i didn't know when i did the reservation than there was better rooms if i did i would have definitely picked it as for the bathroom I couldn't take a shower in it it look not clean enough and very old although the service was fine The restaurant looked nice yet the open breakfast buffet was tinyyyy with so little variety in the food and i think after staying there 3 nights the price was high compared to what we got
I have stayed week ends in the last 3 years.I like it for location hi view. Some room are very good for a budget hotel. It is convinient for posh Zamalik. It has increased in price more than inflation. There are revovationwork, rewiring and refurbrishing of the reception and lobby. The carpets at cooridoors needs replcement.Breakfast is just adequate but there is room for improvement. The street is one way system and if you do not know how to get to it you will be lost if driving.
I'm not trying to be unkind but this was not a great experience for me. The lobby is a construction site and the whole hotel is filled with concrete dust. The hall to my room smelled so bad I had to hold my breath and then the smell in the room wasn't that much better. It was also freezing. And the price per night was WAY too high for Cairo, even Zamalek. Like four times higher than what it should have been. The only thing good I have to say is the breakfast was really nice. Delicious ful and tahina.
The Cellar is a Cairene institution. You know what to expect. Very Egyptian. And just the same after all these years (not in a bad way). Your neighborhood bar. Good music (great dancing tunes). And a decent vibe actually.
This is a solid 2 to 2 1/2 star hotel. Basic furnishings in the room (including a box TV, didn't know those still existed!). But importantly, staff was friendly, hotel was safe, and bathroom was clean. If you want more amenities, niceties probably stay at novotel or sofitel, but if you just need just a place to rest your head, this place will suffice
Enjoy best of zamalik in the old hotel, All rooms need renovation, But breakfast is very nice. Needs new lifts. Zamalik very safe for foreigner to wonder around even at night. Lots of restaurants and shopping walking distance. Try Nadi Elgezira (club) spend the day. Next to Nadi Elforisia ( horse riding/jumping club) Get few lessons or ride in the track and jump. Walk around zamalik and discover take aways, restaurants, gift, shoe, boutique shops Or walk to the famous Marrriot hotel have lunch or enjoy the building history and special restaurants, or night club with belly dancers.
When on visit or short stay I always go here and welcomed always I know area and the people so I am very comfortable and for the needs and my day to day needs I need to are met with everything in either walking distant or 10 mins
My friend and I stayed in this hotel for one night and weren't that impressed. The services were okay, just average. The people at the desk couldn't speak very good English and it was hard to go anywhere/see anything without worrying about our safety. If you're staying for one or two nights it would be okay, but wouldn't recommend for your entire accommodation in Cairo, there are much better places.
The staff is very nice. They are the picture of professionalism. I am a solo woman traveler and they made me feel safe and secure. The breakfast was amazing. I had a view of the Nile. And my room was clean and the air conditioning worked very very well. This is my second time staying at this hotel and I was not disappointed. I will be back. They are great. The location is quiet. The lobby is cozy. The refrigerator worked. They are central. Close to the Cairo and to bear by shops and stores.
