Comfy and clean always a pleasure to stay at Double tree Hilton Cairns. Great location a short walk away from shops and great food. If your clostaphobic like me you will realy appreciatve the glass lifts.
Great location. Comfortable room - top views. Excellent service - prompt, courteous - nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Beautifully maintained gardens and pool. Right opposite the beach and Boardwalk.
The Doubletree is a nice hotel in a great location right on the esplanade. You can walk to anywhere in central Cairns. The grounds are nicely arranged, with a water garden. The pool is nice, with a separate spa. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, from the reception, to the bell desk, to the housekeeping staff. The only knock I️ have is on the WiFi. It was super slow and/or non operational. Both my friend and I️ had the problem, and on multiple devices. You don’t go to a hotel just for the WiFi, but it’s still important. I’d return for sure but I’d check about the WiFi first.
Great location. Access to Esplanade and various restaurants. RSL right next door. Reception very friendly and quick check in. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Restaurant is the biggest let down. Meal was extremely small for a main and over priced. Was not cooked well. Took quite a while for service. There were only three other tables in the whole dining room that had guests. Should have rang alarm bells for us then. Drinks were left empty. Such a shame this hotel is let down by the restaurant. My recommendation is to eat elsewhere unless there is a substantial change. As for staying at the hotel, well I give that a tick.
Unfortunately our stay was quite disappointing. As Hilton Gold members it was surprising to find it missed the Double Tree standard in so many ways. I will start with the pros. PROS: -Amazing ground floor staff. Very helpful and willing to go the extra mile. -Location was perfect for enjoying the downtown area for meals and walks along the boardwalk. -Gym was small but treadmill was all I needed. CONS: -Room cleaning is poor. Twice we put out the sign for cleaning and came back early afternoon to it not being done yet. On the day it was cleaned we found that the bathroom was definitely not cleaned and just rearranged with towels replaced. One coffee mug and wine glasses were missing. -Welcome letter stated breakfast until 10am and when we arrived at 935 were told they were already closed. Staff offered their apology and said management decided to change it. My wife is pregnant and this was a huge inconvenience for us. -At breakfast while checked in the staff member didn't seem to be aware that they offer a hot breakfast that can be cooked upon request. The first 2 days we missed out. On subsequent days we enjoyed omelettes and scrambled eggs. Every other Hilton we've stayed at they always provide a menu and ask you if you'd like to order while checking you in for breakfast. Coffee tasted horrible. -Wifi did not work AT ALL during our stay. Before and after receiving a "Booster" device. We were offered different explanations like "it's being worked on" and "it can be slow during heavy usage". But the fact of the matter is that it didn't work at all during out stay. As Gold members we receive it for free but I would not pay for it. We instead had to buy some Telstra SIM cards at Woolsworth to hotspot our devices. This is the option I'd recommend. -Our room had a partial ocean view and was directly above some of the outdoor seating on the ground level. Every night we could hear the chatter from below until about midnight even with the window closed. On one particular night it got so loud from some event DT was hosting in their restaurant that numerous guests walked out their front door and yelled down asking them to keep it down. All they received were drunken responses. I thought for sure the night duty manager would do something since they were hosting the event but nothing was done. -The bathroom is very small, visible mold spots, and outdated. For the price we certainly expected more. -As gold members it was surprising to have such a disappointing stay. In our opinion it was like a budget hotel minus the budget price. We will not be staying there again.
The check in was good, although they were doing maintenance with regard to electricity it didnt impact on our arrival at all. We were given a free warm cookie and some bottled water. When we reached our room, there was a lantern in the bathroom, which enabled us to see what we were doing. However was not long before the electric supply was restored. It was a spacious room with full windows from floor to ceiling. There were plenty of toiletries, slippers and bathrobes plus pool towels. There was an electric kettle, fridge and tea coffee and sugar, albeit hotels never leave enough of these, and always assume that everyone drinks coffee, however, we are used to this and normally take our own supply as we like English tea. We therefore, found Woolworth's supermarket where we purchased some fresh milk. We also took our own breakfast cereal and bowls so we could have breakfast when we wanted also cut down the cost, especially after travelling nearly 4 weeks. It was clean and very quiet and one morning spent a little while round the pool, which was not over large. The weather was not the best when we visited, but thats something you cannot do anything about. We used the WiFi downstairs, which was free, we didn't find any problems with this as it enabled us to check in with our flight and also put a complaint through to the airline. On making your way round to the swimming pool, there is a pool with some massive Koi fish, apparently, they have a little show each day round lunchtime when they feed these fish, but we were always out and about, so missed this.
We stayed 3 nights at this beautiful hotel. Comfortable spacious rooms, great bathrooms, lots of towels, well located on the Esplanade. Quiet, loved the balcony and views. Internet was very slow and annoying.
We stayed here for a romantic getaway and it was perfect, Situated right on the esplanade and only meters away from the beautiful waters edge. We arrived early and booked a tour through the hotel and they shuffled rooms around for us to get us in our room earlier. We also received complementary cookies with was a nice touch after a bit of a flight. The gardens are just beautiful and the standard of the rooms were good. Its not luxury but its comfortable. The Pool was clean and very large also a wadding pool for the babies and a huge hot spa with we took full advantage of. They have a bar and restaurant downstairs, internet area, tours booking area and very friendly and accommodating staff. Room service was prompt and they catered for our every need. They supply ironing board hair dryer and a safe. Beach towels are in the room too. They have a fridge and jug with tea and coffee supplied. It was a comfortable and pleasent stay and we will be coming back again. A skip and a hop to everything central and what we needed. Watching the sun rise and the moon rise over the bay was just the perfect touch to our stay and would highly recommend this hotel for family couples and singles.
Worst booking experience ever. They have cancelled my booking after a month without reaching me on booking.com. Tried to reach them by myself but they didn't accepted my attempts. They said it was a discounted price and they can not help... They deserve one star here.
Good hotel, good location for walking along the promenade and boardwalk. Room was clean and tidy, albeit tired. Bathroom was clean but tired too. WiFi is good. Welcome double choc chip cookie is tired too.... would rather have a piece of fruit instead. The atrium with the rainforest and pond is tasteful. Try and get a room looking out over the beach. The gym is tired. Didn't try the breakfasts or dinners here. Lounge bar has more character than its bigger sister, the Hilton Cairns. Review by purple_traveller - a Hilton Honours Silver member.
