Stayed for 2 weeks while trying to find permanent accom. Staff were all very kind and we felt well looked after. As we were staying for a while, they provided us with hot plates, pans, cooking utensils, oil/salt/pepper etc to avoid having to eat out every meal. There was also the gas BBQ outside which we commonly used. Staff were keen to help with anything we needed. Room was very spacious and huge bed. Location is perfect! A 5 minute walk into centre of town and a back gate that goes directly onto main beach/the wreck. Was ideal as we didn't have a car initially. The only improvement would be the range on the wifi, it was a bit temperamental in the room, but worked well by the pool.
Apparently under new management, we found the motel to be ideal for our needs. It is located very close to the town centre yet far away enough not to have noise from night venues. A track leads from the back of the property out onto the beach. The room was amazingly spacious and you could have held a small party in the bathroom! The room was clean and the bed was comfy. What more can you ask for?
My 16 year old daughter and I enjoyed 2 great nights. The motel was clean and centrally located. We checked in after hours with no problems after a long day traveling. Upon check out we chatted with a really lovely man who genuinely sought our feedback. Thank you for your hospitality and a lovely few days
My experience with this motel is pretty sad – they charged me twice by mistake (two rooms instead of one), refused to admit the mistake. I had to fight my way through Agoda and Booking to get my money back. Hotel never apologised which makes me question their managements moral integrity. While this is not directly related to accommodation quality, management style matters (especially in tourism industry) and I hope some users find this review helpful.
Great counter staff, had free board games to bring back to our room to play, and the staff let us park our car there post-check out to go have lunch. However rooms are very dated and had this musky smell that wouldn't go away. Alright for one night's stay.
We stayed for one night on our way from Sydney to Brisbane. After a long day travelling with a 1 year old we arrived at 5.30pm as a walk in hoping they'd have a room. The new owners went out of their way to make sure our stay was a comfortable one, providing a portacot so that we didn't have to unpack half our car to find ours, upgrading us to a 2 bedroom room so our son could have his own room. Fantastic location and very comfortable clean rooms, I highly recommend Wollongbar Motel. Thank you for your amazing hospitality!
Other than being dirty and infested with a cockroaches, our room had a lot going for it. A big red flag was the huge "for sale" sign festooning the entrance as we arrived. Often, but not always, that's a preview that something is bad, wrong, or just not up to snuff. I did check reviews for this well-located property, and they seemed OK. But we were terribly disappointed with the condition of the room. The TV remote was so disgustingly sticky from the previous guest I gave up on watching There were surfaces in the room that looked like they hadn't been wiped down in months if not longer. The carpet was stained and felt dirty underfoot. On the other hand, Byron is a very expensive town and this seemed a reasonably affordable choice within easy walking distance of the CBD, and with easy beach access (they do tell you to ignore the warning signs saying "do not cross" at the railroad tracks enroute to the sand). The bed sheets and towels were clean at least, and we made it through the night. The manager was kind enough to give us a partial refund when I brought up the cockroaches (I had to ask, it was not offered), but there is absolutely no way I can recommend this property. Probably matters not as I expect it to be soon sold and probably transformed into some sort of fancy and likely far more expensive holiday rentals.
We arrived hours earlier than check in and they went out of there way to accommodate us with a room as soon as possible. Lovely customer service on arrival. Clean spacious room. Beach access and only a very short stroll to town.
Spent one night at this motel which is located a short walk from the town centre. Check in was efficient with helpful advice given by the receptionist about the surrounding area. The motel consists of two floors. Our room was spacious and functional. It contained a TV, Fridge, Hairdryer, Microwave and air conditioning. The bathroom was a good size with a nice powerful shower. The complex has a small pool. The town has numerous restaurants and shops. The beaches are very picturesque. A must see is the lighthouse. As is the short walk out to the point which is the furthest easterly point on the Australian mainland. You can walk/hike up to the light house or drive. Parking is metered and at times difficult to find.
At first glance, this motel looks like a noisy option as it's on the main road. However, if you manage to get a room at the back, you'll hear only a distant drone AND there are compensations. The little pool is delightful and its setting is pleasant enough to encourage you to linger over a book or enjoy your breakfast at one of the tables. Best of all is the sandy path behind the motel which leads you through rainforest to a stunning beach. From here, it's only a short walk into town - a far more pleasant option than braving the road traffic. The handy location and beach access almost made up for the restless night's sleep caused by an unforgiving inner-spring mattress. Would we stay here again? Depends on the state of our ageing backs!
