If you are coming from a stay in Rio,this could be the perfect place to relax. The hillside bungalows are at the end of a short road so it is very quiet. There are maybe 14 individual units each separated from the others by vegetation that hummingbirds are drawn to.Inside, you will find the high, airy ceilings that Buzios architecture is noted for.The old time wooden shutters with lace curtains are charming. The double doors open onto a veranda with great ocean views. You can also just be on the large, comfortable bed and see the ocean or watch one of the hundred or so channels on the new large screen tvs the owners have recently bought. The bathroom is bright with a roomy glass encased shower. The breakfast is very good and the dining area is a delight to sit in.There is plenty of shade by the pool much of it provided by the brilliant reds of the flamboyant trees that were in bloom when I was there in December. If you see the owners ,who live on the property, ask them about Argentina, where one owner is from,or talk about world travels. The beach is a few minutes walk away, but there are many kinds of beaches in Buzios that are easily reached.Walk about 10 minutes and reach the start of the walkway that leads to the statue that commemerates Brigette Bardot's time in Buzios. This walkway is a fine place to see the sunset and maybe have some fresh seafood or keep strolling and reach the main dining area of Buzios .Sit and watch the world go by.The hotel perfectly complements the slowed down pace of Buzios.
It was a nice room with a balcony facing the pool area, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good too but I had the feeling it would be not enough place for all guests to have it at the same time... I mean they should have more tables available for the guests. The staff was ok, actually they could speak better spanish than portuguese but it was not really an issue. The parking area seemed to be not the ideal one, I imagine it will not be easy to find a parking place available during the high season in Buzios, but during my stay I had no problems concerning about it. It was a short walking distance to the João Fernandes beach and for those who like to walk you can reach easily also the Bardot orla and the busy Rua das Pedras, were you find many shops and restaurants
After 3 weeks of intensive site seeing and touring in south America this was a wonderfully peaceful, stylish and relaxed way to end a busy holiday. The individual, rusticially furnished cabanas provide comfortable ensuite accomodation. Each cabana has its own balcony with views of the gardens planted with exotic plants and sea views as well as stunning sunsets. There is a small swimming pool on site. The staff were very welcoming and helpful which adds to the relaxed feel of the place. Most speak English. Coffee was available in the Breakfast room all day. The hotel is near a sandy beach which offers all ammenities... water sports, cafes, bars, restaurants etc and the beach bus stops close by. It does get crowded at week ends but there are lots of other sandy beaches near by which are worth a visit. Buzios Town, about 40 mins stroll along the coast, is a lovely walk at sunset. It's laid back, very safe in comparison to Rio, but offers a wide range of shopping and eating opportunities. A great place to stay.
Pousada Hibiscus has a perfect location, situated on the hillside its bungalows, as you go higher offer an idilic scenery. The hotel consists of small bungalows, clean and comfortable and have a nice small veranda. Breakfast is good and the staff is very friendly. Hotel is by Joao Fernandes beach a small beach that gets very crowded at weekends in summer. But since there are so many beaches to chose from this shouldn't be a problem.
Our stay in Buzios was the last leg of a Rio/Iguacu trip. After a very long transfer fro Rio due to an accident on the bridge we were very glad to see the signs for Buzios. We were welcomed at reception by the most amazing guy (sorry we were so tired we cant member your name!) We were warmly and informally welcomed, given all the right information, and immediately felt at home. Our cases were taken up to our bungalow for us and a well stocked fridge was perfect to snack and have a drink. Bungalows are simply furnished, clean and have a great balcony to chill and chat on. Plenty of space to spread out and very comfortable beds. Our safe key wasn't working and was sorted out by a member of staff almost immediately. We were welcomed by a friendly team of ladies at breakfast. Breakfast is served in an airy room and is of a good standard. Great coffee! Other guests were also friendly and relaxed and we always had a smile and a Bom Dia from everyone! We only used the pool once but it was warm, small and clean but we are beach people anyhow! Location for the Jose Fernandez Beach is perfect, being just a two minute walk down the road. We hired a buggy for the day explored all of the beaches and shared ourselves out amongst our favourites. There are a good number of restaurants nearby but we mostly walked to the centre of town which is about 20 mins away. This is a great walk and we did it most days. In conclusion we had a great stay at Hibiscus Beach. On our departure day we had a transfer booked and the manager even gave us a lift back to the hotel to get us away on time! It says it all really when we both said to each other on the way back to the airport that we really didn't want to go home! David&Jer
I re-visited Pousada Hibiscus Beach for my eighth stay for two weeks in early July, primarily to enjoy the World Cup. Taking an arduous long-way round 28-hours in total flight, Durban-Dubai-Rio de Janeiro, I finally arrived at the pousada late in the evening completely exhausted. Imagine my pleasant surprise when a "Welcome Home" note from the proprietors, Kevan and Alicia Pryor, was awaiting me, and that food and beverages awaited me in my bungalow. Much appreciated by the kind thoughtfulness. The next morning, I opened the shuttered doors to my accommodation to take in the beautiful view over the well-kept gardens and the sea beyond. First impressions were of the renovations to the decor, with bright murals and floral paintings, in line with the beauty of Buzios. The reception area was more 'guest-friendly'. Mention here must be given to Nithin Pillai and Cellia. manager and assistant manager respectively, who were so helpful and who went out of their way to be of assistance. Being the World Cup period, the guests made up an international flavour, mainly Argentines, Uruguayans, Guatamalans and Americans. The sevice, from the long-serving staff was lovely, and, for me, was again 'home from home', as mentioned before, my eighth stay at Pousada Hibiscus Beach.. Buzios is really a 'must visit' destination, and has much to offer. As a felloe South African I met there stated: "What a gem of a place to discover". Which more or less sums it all up. Staying at the Pousada Hibiscus Beach makes the stay more than enjoyable, rest assured. It is highly recommended. The writer may be contacted if more information is required .
I was at Hibiscus on last march with my friends and it was the best option we should have made. Close to the beach, downtown, etc. The bungalows are located individually and ofcourse lot of privacy. The staffs are great especially Nithin and Celia, they did there best to make our trip worth every penny :) Probably end of this year we will be back and recommend to everybody. Pink/Nutan
The worst hotel I have every visited. Arrived late at night with family and were not met at reception by personel. Took us 30 minute to explain to a guard lying on the sofa and watching tv to show us the rooms. Got two boungalos far from each other though prebooked two together. Furniture old, condition of the rooms very poor, wind blowing through the windows which makes it load and cold at night. Not on the seaside directly. Complained with the owner of hotel next day but she was extremely rude and denied to return money for the stay. We even had to go to tourism police office to complain but local police was not able to help. We moved to a hotel nearby the same day and enjoyed our stay in a normal place until the end of stay. To sum up, the worst hotel i have every visited in my life, the worst conditions and the rudest people. Would never recommend anyone to stay there even if they are looking for a hotel with low bugdet. There are plenty of MUCH BETTER places nearby.
Been there with my family and friends during June 2014. The resort is neatly maintained and got good quality rooms, friendly employees and closer to the beach. Great place for staying. Internet and breakfast are good.
With the understanding that Value/money ratio in Brazil is possibly the worst in the western hemisphere, this place offers a great view and spacious rooms with good landscaping. I gave it an overall three stars but within the Brazil lenses I would say a 4 out of 5. Items to improve: 1) More than five minutes of hot water so two people can take a shower. 2) new bedside lamps that cost more than $2, and can't be knocked over by a 5km/h breeze. 3) decent pillows (problem at most every pousada in the country) 4) the AC unit is sub par and will give you fluid in your lungs. (Again consistent cultural theme to save every penny at expense of customer convenience) Items of merit 1) Breakfast was fresh and delicious. 2) patio of room has great views and gives you a feeling of privacy due to the dimensions. 3) bathroom is clean and well covered 4) mattress is nice and cozy Would stay here again and paid roughly $R280/night, 2 people.
