Nice location, little bit far away from city centre, no public transport inside island. better rent a car also gives a way to go bratislava or wien. quiet and clean hotel. advised in budapest. thanks.
I have spent the last week at the Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget, Budapest. I found this hotel by accident while on a previous visit to Budapest last year. A Hungarian friend was showing me around and we were walking on the Margitsziget when we spotted the hotel; we went in for a look and I resolved immediately that I would stay in it on my next trip. It was, I think, built in the late 1870s and it looks majestic, inside and out. The food in the beautiful dining room, or on the terrace, was really nice, the staff were friendly and helpful. It was June in Budapest and, with ambient temperatures of 30 degrees plus, the air conditioning was most welcome (a small leak in the unit in my room was fixed very hastily) and I found it very comfortable. There is a well appointed spa which I did not use. The hotel wifi is the most reliable and speediest I've used in any hotel. It is probably worth saying that, this hotel is on a small island beside a bridge (Margits Hid), a comfortable 20 minute walk away. There are trams there to travel in either direction, to Buda or to Pest, on either side of the Danube. Taxis to the town centre are readily available. This was ok for me but it may not suit everyone. That said, I loved all the extensive wooded/park areas on the island and the running track right round the island. I had little eateries and pubs to entertain myself on the island as well. All in all, I loved this hotel and the setting. It is beautiful. Thanks to all the staff (and to Eva, for helping me find it)
We were happy to have a small outdoor balcony to have morning coffee and snacks. The small refrigerator allowed us to bring some of our own food. And the best was to soak in the hot water spa after a long day of tours. The air conditioning was on and off and it made our sleeping at night uncomfortable.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the rooms were excellent, very clean and well maintained. We had a couple of meals in the Terrace restaurant and the staff were charming and helpful and appreciated my efforts at speaking Hungarian. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and have already recommended the hotel to friends and colleagues.
Very nice place to stay. Quiet area. View on Danube. Close to bus stop, good communication with city. Spa in price (pools, saunas etc). Parking place in front of a hotel. Very nice and friendly stuff :)
Overall I could not fault this property at all, we had an absolutely amazing stay I would definately recommend the hotel and use it again in the future, the only reason for the low mark on the sleep was due to the pillows, they are obviously tumble dried and causes the inside of the pillow to clump up, leaving them flat and rather uncomfortable. But again as I said everything else was 1st class and I will definitely be back. Thanks for all your help during our stay!
The Hotel is located in a beautiful area, the building and the furnishing is very romantic. Howevere, we run into so many annoying things that I can't rate this place higher. The bathroom was lacking hygiene bags, the flush did not work properly, the water pressure in the bath was very low, the soap dispenser was rotten and the wifi signal was weak, almost unusable. There was a door between our and the next room and we could here our neighbours speaking. The food in the restaurant was not any better than average but the biggest disappointment was the wine and beer selection. A hotel like this shall pay more attention and at least keep some quality beverages, other than the cheapest and very common beer in hungary and mass produced non quality wines in the minibar. I did not have time to check the SPA, it seemed nice from the outside.
Hi there, I think the hotel was great, it was clean, great location, nice fitness centre. But at my check-out I was told to pay a penalty because I amended my booking and because my booking was made via Booking.com, the hotel was not notified about this amendment, it took them 1 hour to liaise with Booking.com, and the manager made things complicated as my amendment was not communicated to this hotel/HQ 100%. Go there, but try not to change your booking if it is via booking.com!.
I found at the hotels on be very nice. Me and my wife stayed for four nights . The room was well equipped for all are needs . The bed was lovely and the room had a very nice bathroom with a power flow shower. Older people might find it hard getting in and out of the bath as it has a high bath edge!. I'm only 45 but found it high. But I'm only quibbling about a small fault.!. The hotel staff were very helpful . The spa and pools were great. Make sure you find the one on the sun terrace outside above the main spa pools. We found this on the last day of our visit. The hotel is about a mins walk to the parliament buildings. Transport: Five mins on a number 26 bus. We brought a 72 hour full transport pass from bus/ train station . This cost £20 and can be used on any tram, bus and even water taxis around Budapest . I would say don't buy the hop on hop off bus pass . This is the same amount of money but only lasts two days and only runs to 6 o'clock at night!!. You will need transport to get about this city or be prepared to do a lot of walking.taxi prices are a bit expensive. Food: The food was very wide rangeing . And very cheap in the city centre. Check out the goulash !!. Overall the hotel is great if a little far from the main attractions, bus required or 30 min walk. For Budapest you require 2 to 4 days to check out all that it has to offer. I would come back to this hotel if we came back to Budapest .
One bad thing, the room curtains never meet, and two, only one cup of coffee is allowed at the coffee-and-croissants breakfast. Also, the taxi drivers in town are a bit dicey, but this is not the fault of the hotel or their most helpful staff.
