The hotel is beautiful, historic and close to the Barter theatre but not worth the cost. The desk staff was not friendly or helpful, not just one but all of them had horrible hospitality skills. The valets were very friendly and very helpful, if all of the staff had their attitudes this hotel would be great. And don't be fooled by the amenities list, the in room water means one bottle, any more than that will be billed to your credit card. And the complimentary breakfast may have existed but was never mentioned. I expected a lot more for the price. You get more amenities from the Hilton at a much better price with much more friendly staff. The history is the best thing about this hotel.

I've known "The Martha" for years and enjoyed many weddings, birthday parties and receptions there. My parents hosted a gala for their 50th wedding anniversary at The Martha in 1987. So my stay this week was more of a walk down memory lane. Charm still oozes from each room and "Sisters" Restaurant was excellent with perfectly prepared cuisine. Loved the addition of the Spa, gym and saltwater pool as well as a newer gift shop. What disappointed was badly worn and dirty carpets, poorly operating room air conditioners and beds much too old and soft for real sleep. I also felt the room lighting was insufficient although the "huge" Windows saved the day for the most part. I'd return yet again just for the opportunity to enjoy that magnificent front porch with cool breezes and wonderful wicker furniture but "my" wonderful walk down memory lane needs some updating and only gets a 3 star rating.
