Fantastic location in central Brisbane close to train and bus stations. Shopping and variety of restaurants just up the road and a short walk down to the river and beautiful gardens. Highly recommended.
Forget this place. There are only two (2) lifts for the whole building...44 floors. The place is in the main 100% full and WHEN they're working the lifts can't handle the volume. One of lifts is constantly out of action ... sometimes 2. We had to WALK up 37 floors last Tuesday FORGET IT - find somewhere else.
The rooms are fine and the tariff is good BUT the lifts are always out of action with people waiting up to 30 minutes, sometimes more for a lift! On one stay BOTH lifts were out and several guests had to walk down 40 stories in order to make their plane. It is because of the lifts that I have given this a poor rating and believe me - they are always going out. I will not be staying again.
I have stayed here many times. The reception staff are always welcoming. Units are well set up with all you would need for your holiday. Close to the CBD and easy access to the gardens, the cultural centre and transport.
The hotel is well situatied in a busy locality. There are a lot restaurants and cafes in the streets nearby and there is a wide selection of cuisine to choose from, especially Chinese cuisine. Seafood, lamb dishes or burgers and chips can all be found within walking distance. Shops can also be found nearby with Queen Street Mall offering a variety of shops for the tastes of one and all, from designer labels to the more casual style. The hotel itself is ok and kept relatively clean. The apartments are spacious enough and include a kitchenette and living area, with wide balconies for the two-bedroom apartments. One cannot expect to find a great view from the windows though, surrounded by more buildings.
Hallways smell unclean, gym equipment useless (treadmills squeak even when walking, rowing machine has no handles to use it, weights machine keeps breaking) shower is only for people under 5ft, internet is very expensive, and bed is two hard single beds put together and the join is very uncomfortable.
i have stayed a few times at this hotel and have always been very happy but this time round i'm not very impressed . first of all check in was very rushed and then i get to the room and it is not what i paid for i asked for a river view i certainly did not get that , i asked the staff that this is not the room i requested and they told me it was sold out not impressed at all !
iStay River City staff have been very helpful for me during my stay in Brisbane. When i forgot to bring my parcels as i checked out back to my country, their kindly send it to my address and contact me if that parcels have arrived at my home. Very recommended place for living in Brisbane.
I liked staying at Istay except my last experience changed me and haven't been back The first and second times great, wonderful, comfortable. The last time I ordered a twin share for me and my girlfriend and I went to plug my iPad in behind my single bed and found the bedside lamp plugged in with wirers hanging out of it everywhere. A fire waiting to happen, glancing up the sprinkler system was right above me so if I'd caught alight the sprinkler would have spayed an electrical fire which I don't think your ment to put water on and when I looked out my bedroom door the fire alarm was just there on the ceiling covered up completely with a plastic shopping bag and rubber band . So I was going to fry in an electrical fire then wetted down to fry again with no help as there would be no alarm. I'll just add that the bathroom was filthy and elevator swipes never work as nothing really beats my trauma of imagining my fiery death. We were given a room on the 35th floor, we both had queen beds but I was still imagining my firery death, couldn't get passed it and the manager didn't take it seriously enough in my opinion, like oh well ok we can move you, no OMG I'm so sorry heads will roll for this ,can we offer you a free night, ha in my dreams I suppose. When I checked out I was charged for the upgrade and I told them why I should not be and was told to call them back after they speak to their manage which I did but no go . I tactfully told the girl that I had taken pictures and would she like me to send them to her or forward them on to health and safety for them, "oh no that's fine if you send them to us we will take care of it" yes I'm sure they will..
Stayed here for two nights. Very happy with the apartment/hotel. Thought we were booking a room but got a fully furnished and self contained apartment. Great location and very central. The only downside was that we were charged $25.00 a day for parking which we weren't aware of before booking.
