My wife is from New Braunfels, Texas, so her dream has been to go to Germany. We went to a number of places, including Braunfels, which is a quaint, lovely town. The castle is magnificent, as are the displays inside. Everything is in mint condition. The Braunfels Castle is a few minutes walk from the hotel. We were totally impressed with the castle and hotel. The hotel is very affordable. We stayed two nights. The hotel is charming and classy and dignified, as is Milo, who is in charge of the hotel during the day. Sarah, who is in charge at night, is also a very sweet person. The staff is friendly and wonderful, just as Milo and Sara are.We felt right at home. The breakfast is fantastic! We had cold cuts, eggs, yogurt, rolls, bread, juices and coffee. The Vogel ice cream/candy shop has wonderful lunches and desserts. Braunfels was like a fairy tale! We give the hotel and town the highest possible recommendation. Thank you all for the most wonderful time and memories!!!
This centrally located hotel is suited for both tourists and business travelers, respectively. Decent room with a nice view and a balcony comfortable enough two people. Bathroom was small but clean and functioal. At the breakfast buffet you get your money's worth and then some. Staff there were very friendly and helpful and boil your egg any way you want. The customer service was fantastic at this hotel. The location is central and less than a 3 minute walk from the castle. Breakfast was included and offered a good variety of choices. The only critique I would have is that the decor could use some updating, but the bedding was clean and that’s most important to me.
In my honest opinion, Braunfels is among the most beautiful and underrated towns in Germany. It's a quiet little place on a hill and nearly every house is very old and built in the half-timbered style. I've made half a dozen trips here and will likely be back!
Upon leaving the hotel in the evening the receptionist advised me to take my key with me as there is no night manager on duty. The importance of this advice sank in only later, after I had returned after midnight. I could not sleep well for two reasons: (i) there was a constant low noise as if from some engine running (ii) the room was very cold (early May) Normally, one would call the front desk but alas! - nobody there in the wee hours! So I spent a rather unpleasant night. While the room was decently furnished (see fotos ) the bath room was basically unheated, the floor being pretty cold and no slippers provided. There were no bathroom amenities (can be purchased at the front desk). Internet is free however, one has to go to the front desk to obtain an individually generated password (took about three minutes ) and one has to sign for it (no idea what that is about - some legal stuff? ). Breakfast buffet was decent with scrambled eggs and bacon provided.
One of the main reasons to visit Braunfels is the castle. This hotel can't be at a more convenient location. It even has a view of the castle. From the street, in front of the hotel, the view is very impressive. But that's not why this hotel is just excellent. Very nice, well maintained building, very friendly and professional staff, great room, very clean, great bar and restaurant and last, but certainly not least a great value for money. (Breakfast and wifi is included in the price.) Highly recommended.
Spent four days in June visiting relatives. We got a impressive airy and spacy room in the second floor in the tower section (room 221). The room’s general interior decoration, beds, cleanliness and over al impression met well the hotel’s three stars. Adding that the staff spoke good English and their more than warm and hospital customer approach they could well have earned the hotel a 4th star. If you are looking for tranquility and personal service this is the place to spend your time after a hectic or long physical day. The outdoor temperature was the whole time rather crispy but the heating in the worked well. The hotel is situated with a walking distance from the Castle, (Michelin) restaurants, marketplace and the wonderful castle park. You have a parking place ready if you come by care. (There was none when we arrived but the receptionist managed to fix one for us.). The breakfast is very much as expected from a family hotel. Nothing fancy or overwhelming but basic German breakfast. We never tried the hotel’s restaurant There was a blend of native Germans and tourists at the breakfast. Most of them. where senior citizens or families with upper teenagers. The Wifi worked really well.
Well run efficient family owned and run hotel. Quiet location very convenient to castle and town square.Basis is bed and breakfast which is very well presented. Staff always very helpful and pleasant and speak good English. The rooms are comfortable. There is an adjoining restaurant and others within a short walk.
Having visited New Braunfels, Texas, many times, while in Germany we wanted to see the place it was named for, Braunfels, Hesse. As we were traveling by car, the Schloss-Hotel had the good parking we wanted. Of the eight hotels we stayed during our trip, this one had the only bath tub...which my wife thoroughly enjoyed the one night we were there. We had a large room with a high ceiling with well appointed 19th century furnishings that impressed my wife as quite beautiful. The bath was up to date and spotless. The front desk was handled well with no communication problems. As I began to carry my bags up the grand stairway, a young girl came from behind the desk, grabbed my bag and raced up the stairs with it before I could barely say I could handle it. Thanks. The included breakfast buffet was very good in a spacious formal dining room. The hotel does not have restaurant but does do banquets. There is a grille that is located in the basement but we were there the one day of the week it is closed. There are several good eating places close by at the market-square and entrance to the Schloss which is the main attraction that we toured before leaving. The Schloss Braunfels is a very short walk away. The hotel is an older structure (no lift), but it is in good shape and after having walked the area, we were of the opinion that it was by far the best one there.
What a lovely stay! Schloss-Hotel Braunfels sits a block from the beautiful (and as yet tourist-undiscovered!) castle. We were greeted by name and made to feel most welcome at this delightful old hotel. Our room was large, convenient, and spotless, with a small balcony and a lovely view over the countryside. Breakfast was the usual spread of breads, cheeses, meats, etc. Included were those wonderful German broetchen, the freshest we had on our trip. Braunfels is an easy hour's drive from Frankfurt Airport and a scenic two-hours' drive from Koblenz and the Rhine valley. Highly recommended!
