Hotel Campanile Bordeaux Centre - Gare Saint-Jean3.0 out of 5.0

A typical budget hotel but with contemporary interiors. Rooms are compact with limited closet space & not ideal for long stay & multiple luggage. You have to buzz in to access the hotel so it’ll take a while for you to get inside especially if the Front desk on-duty is attending to a guest or worse, not in his/her post. The staff Per se are ok but because they are undermanned, they had to multitask especially during breakfast service as they also pinch hit as servers. Located outside City Center but is walking distance drom tram access.
Just a few minutes walk from Bordeaux railway station, and amongst several other large chain hotels, the Campanile is a three star hotel with very modern rooms. We were impressed by the friendly greetings, the strict security stopping strangers from getting in, and in our case the absolute quietness in our room overlooking the car park even with the window open. We love the walk-in shower, the large built-in desk and storage areas, with jug and tea/coffee, and strong wifi (albeit annoying with its re-signing every 6 hours). We are here over a weekend, so the place is almost deserted unlike weekdays when we couldn't get a room as it is full of business people. For this very reason I figured they switched off the aircon mid Friday afternoon, but the weather at present is perfect for leaving the window open anyway. We are here three nights, and really enjoy having several wonderful brasseries to eat and drink just up the road, as is the tram stop, airport bus or a pleasant 30 minute stroll following the tram tracks into town for the more energetic. We have stayed previously in the very centre of town but this is a better choice.
Our first impression of this hotel was it was very clean, comfortable, a good size room. Our first night was very comfortable. But our second was very different. The Air Condition in the room was not working, I advised the front end staff of the problem and they check a panel and I was told it working and to "give it a few minutes". I waited and again I reported the problem to a second staff member and I was told the same thing was A.C. was working to wait.Still with no A.C. I told a third staff member of the problem and she come to the room and said "I don't know what to do" and the hotel if full. I ask to speak to a Manager or maintenance person and she said they would be here in the morning. So we spent a very HOT and uncomfortable night in this hotel. I contacted The Directrice Maria Chopin and told her of my bad night with No Air Condition and staff Not able to help and her reply was "it is very difficult to get someone to fix this problem at night". So I ask for a refund for the night and she said she would give me a partial refund. After about 10 email exchanges I have yet to receive the refund. In my opinion the hotel is very poorly run with untrained staff unable to help. I will NOT return.
Ideally located 3 minutes walk from the main railway station and tram stop. Comfortable room and breakfast fine. Good to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room but only one teabag! We prefer tea to coffee so I went down to reception to ask for a few more teabags. The two charming and helpful ladies on reception were very happy to give me a few more but not manageress Marie Chopin. The charming Marie wanted to charge us 2€ each teabag (two euros!) If this is Campanile policy then it needs urgent amendment; if it is Mme Chopin's own rule she needs an urgent lesson in hospitality. Shame - this coloured our judgement of an otherwise excellent stay.
An excellent hotel, with good service, quiet, clean and cosy rooms. The breakfast was excellent with a good range to choose from including bacon, eggs and sausages to cold meats. There is a lovely decked patio with plants at the rear of the hotel to eat and drink in.
Would have given 3.5 if possible. The room was clean but basic and slightly dull. But if you are looking for a place within walking distance of the train station for a night then this is your place. Price was reasonable.
Clean, spacious, reasonably priced, not bad location away from traffic, short walk to train station, short walk to city centre. Noisy (club noise until 6am), staff ok, breakfast could be better, no safe. Good for couple of days.
We only stayed one night on our way by train from Spain to Lyon. The hotel is very convenient and clean. The staff were helpful and spoke English. The rooms are clean and have everything we needed for a one night stay. We ate out and left early so cannot comment on any other amenities.
This hotel has a fabulous location right in the busy part of Bordeaux Sud. Rooms are fine and clean. Reception staff very friendly. They have underground car parking which is great although a bit tight for bigger cars. Breakfast was very good.
1. When you arrival at Bordeaux Train Station - take the exit and walk right. Depending on your speed - you should be able to spot the Hotel sign which is about 5-7 minutes walk past the tourist office. 2. The receptionist was very pleasant and spoke good English. 3. They will always ask if you would like to have breakfast and I always answer no. 4. There is a Carrefour market just behind the hotel. About 5 minutes walk. 5. There is also free wifi 6. Rooms were not soundproofed and we heard some late night or early birds singing on the streets. Otherwise - the place is pretty quiet. 7. Room has en-suite which is quite respectable and a flat screen tv. 8. The beauty of this place was that it was really near the Train Station. 9. A short walk away was the Garonne river and was pleasant and there were also others walking about and some were jogging and running. 10. I will definitely stay here again 11. They do have a restaurant that serves B/L/D. Not sure about the price and the menu.
