I found it online and booked it...we needed only one night there...we arrived there in the afternoon...check in was a little bit slow but the staff were friendly...they handed us our key it was a surprise for me to use a key instead of a card...the room was furnished in an old style but it was clean...beds were comfortable...bathroom was clean...a small fridge was inside the room...the location was good in a walking distance from the city center...it was a nice experience...it is recommended
This Hotel was one of the top hotels in it's heyday, but time has taken it's toll. The Sofa in the room had a large wear hole in the seat, the carpet was tired, the A/C did not cool the room and simply heated no matter what cooling temperature was set. The internet was a pain to log onto and there was nothing in the mini bar and there was no tea or coffee making facilities. The remote controller for the TV had flat batteries and the shower in the bath was rather dangerous as the curvature of the bottom of the bath was too acute. Having outlined the negative points, on the plus side, the fittings in the room are all quality but dated and the overall impression is good but when looks beneath the surface one can see that the hotel is in need of an update. The restaurant is good but we had an overcooked fish course. One thing that did really amuse me was that on the wine list, Wine number five on the list was not a wine one would expect to see in a restaurant of this standard. Please see the photo of the wine list and the bottle that was delivered to the table and form your own opinion.
Lets start with the positive: - The pool - Staff is friendly - Proximity to the train station This already brings us to the long list of disturbing and/or negative facts: - You cant sleep with open windows thanks to the (cargo?) trains riding the whole night 30 meters from the hotel - Internet is horribly slow! This makes remote work almost impossible. Don't even think about having a conference call here. - TV channels seem to be satellite, otherwise I can't explain all the lags - Old and very slow elevator can be annoying if you stay in the upper floors, long waiting during peak hours - Generally very used interior - Curtains were dirty and could do with a wash - Huge keys that don't fit in small pockets. Might be funny and nostalgic in a winter sport resort but not for city/business trips
Stayed here during business trip. Everything is quite old and in bad state of repair. Long waits for elevators, bath tubs are real trip hazard etc. At breakfast, no eggs, allegedly because of health scare, but in reality (according to staff) because of cost-cutting. Management has also abolished minibars. There wasn't even a cork screw in our room.
Stayed here for 3 nights recently. In spite of reviews saying the decoration is a bit Marie-Antoinette overall, I have no issue with it. The single room I had was rather spacious and the bathroom was reasonable size too. Internet was of reasonable speed and very quiet surrounding for a good night sleep. I just enjoyed the surrounding, as this hotel is smoke free everywhere. Probably the only setback I had was the pillow was just too soft. Location wise is perfect, just 5 minutes away from Bonn HBF and the main square. The tramline stops in front of the hotel. Plenty of food and activities at the Square on Saturday. Cannot comment on the breakfast, as I did not have a chance to take breakfast at the hotel, as there are plenty of cafes within walking distance from the hotel that serves wonderful breads and pastries. I will definitely be back at this hotel the next time I am in Bonn.
Good location 5 mins walking to the train station where you can take a bus or tram to anywhere; or walk downtown for restaurants. I had a suite which as quite large. Decoration is a bit Marie-Antoinette overall, but that's the style of the whole hotel, so live with it. Reception staff were overall friendly and accommodating. Swimming pool was refreshing. Internet was decent. We got a card to go to Life Fitness gym downtown which was good.
location just few meters to the train and bus station, SB60 (bus line tot he airport), shopping area. the best value for money. rooms are spacy and satisfying speed on internet. excellent lobby and dining area
As a business traveller, from the moment you arrive at Hotel Bristol you know you've made a mistake. The decor is immediately shabby 80's, not by design but because this hotel has had no investment into the furnishing & fittings, air conditioning, wifi, staff uniforms, key design, food presentation etc since the early 80's and everything now is just simply worn out . The ironic thing is that it's classed as 4 Stars superb Hotel. As a frequent traveller to Bonn, the only reason that you'd stay in Hotel Bristol, is that your travel agent or yourself can't find a room in any other hotel.
Location good. Rest is one of the worst hotel I have been. 1) No gym. From reception they told I could go to one affiliated gym nearby; Go upstairs get changed, back at reception and I ask what to do for the gym. They tell me "Sorry we only have two cards and they are being used and we dont know when and if they get back today". Interesting; 2) I ask if I can buy sandwiches in the restaurant. Reception says yes. I go to the restaurant and ask for sandwiches. The waiter suggested that if it is for "take away" I could get a room service. I go upstairs in my room and I cannot find a menu. Call reception and they tell me they do not do room service anymore. Seriously?? And people in the restaurant dont know? Ok, doesnt finish here. I go downstairs to the restaurant and ask for the menu of sandwiches. Another waitress tell me they only have club sandwich and so I ask to list the ingredient. "All annoyed" the waitress tells me that a club sandwich is a club sandwich ... so cheese and some other stuff. Well, I told her, I have allergies so the minimum you can do is to either tell me what's in the sandwich or find somebody who can answer! I left. 3) I am here for work. Forget about their WIFI. Completely useless!! I cannot do work at all from my room. I need to tether via my phone in order to work. The whole experience is just horrible, this place should not be able to charge as much as they do and should definitely be downgrade!
I had a chance to stay in a suite during the Eastern holiday. The hotel is old but convienant, very close to the cental train station. The suite is big but no microwave; you can have breakfast across the street with 4 Euros. Walking around by night is very relaxing.
